My Grandma had a picture of him hanging on her kitchen wall.

It's interesting how many photos feature him smoking. The smoking and drinking unfortunately aged him beyond his years and by the time he died he looked to be a couple of decades older than his relatively youthful 57 years. He was a handsome man in his youth and naturally gifted. Too bad our demons sometimes drive us to be so self-destructive.

Parents not showing affection to their children must have been the norm back then... My mother was the same way in the 60's!

Bacall was gorgeous and the myth behind their union was legendary but when you peel back the layers, it was just as troubled as the first three. And although she was steppin out w/Sinatra (who was steppin out on his wife), it is remotely possible that Bacall was aware of his affair w/Thompson. *Key Largo* will always be one of my favs and the song about them as well.

He was known to chain smoke up to 5 packs of cigarettes a day! He even chain smoked throughout many of his movies. Bacall was carrying on an affair with Frank Sinatra in their home while Bogart was dying under the same roof. Shortly after Bogart died, she started putting pressure on Sinatra to marry her. In a weak moment during a romantic evening, he grudgingly agreed so Lauren immediately contacted the press to announce their engagement without telling Frank and started making wedding plans. The Press contacted Sinatra by phone wanting to know more details and the date of their wedding. Unprepared, Sinatra was horrified, lost his nerve and had an immediate change of heart about marrying Bacall and hung up on the press. He refused to talk to them or anyone about any wedding and went into hiding, avoiding Bacall for a month, also refusing to talk to her by phone. She was frantic in her attempts to see him but knew him well enough to know when he refused to see her that the wedding was off and she had been dumped by him. Eventually he did call her to confirm this, but the relationship was permanently over after that. These details are contained in her autobiography.

He was a Capricorn. My birthday 12/28. I loved him in Casablanca.

My fellow Navy vet! Love me some Bogie! Me and my mother enjoy watching him in "Casablanca", "Key Largo" and "The Maltese Falcon". I first saw him in "The Caine Mutiny" when my NJROTC instructor showed it as a part of the professional development portion of the class. Definitely an underdog when it comes to leading men of the Golden Age of Hollywood.

We both grew up on the Upper West Side. Bogart lived between Riverside Drive and Broadway. He lived in a private townhouse of sorts with an artists studio for his mother. It was situated on 101 street, or so.

Lauren, Bacall and Bogart romance was like John Kennedy's and Jacqueline Kennedy's romance. It looked good on face value but you scratch a little bit and underneath the surface it really wasn't Camelot a phrase that was coined by Jacqueline Kennedy after John f Kennedy was assassinated. Jacqueline Kennedy was a book editor for a while when she was younger a photographer, but I think she would have been a great PR person. She knew how to weave the A real good Mariners Tale.

It was interesting to learn that both Bogart and I had to suffer fathers who blew through family money. My father was far worse, I dare say.

Humphrey Bogart was so cool. I liked when he played the good guy. I LOVED when he played the bad guy tho. He just had the look of the classic movie gangster. He has some gritty movies before he made it big like Black Legion, where he joins a cult that wants to destroy businesses owned by foreigners and illegal immigrants, be it kidnapping and murders. His other great performance that I know him was The Petrified Forest where he’s a outlaw bank robber that holds up a diner. Those two films really made me a fan of his. He and his wife, Lauren Bacall did a couple of movies together that are iconic. I don’t know if you did a video on her but she also has a great story. (You did do a video on her, sorry) Great video and analysis on Bogie!

I briefly attended the same private day school as Bogart. The Trinity School (1709) is located on the Upper West Side and is a great place. I benefitted from my short time there. In Bogarts day there was a firing range in the cellar! Today it has the largest indoor pool of any Eastern School. John McEnroe was on the tennis team.
