I had history with the big bull. It was him or none. I carried on and found the big bull plus 4 other bulls and 5 cows. AND shot a wolf along the way. And the big bull came home! The sound is actually the same audio slowed to %19, not an inserted effect. Hilarious it sounds like wild cats or something 🤣
When the audio slowed down, it caught me off-guard.....I honestly thought I was listening to a Sabe' (sp?).....growling, mountain-cat like screams....damn. Now I can't stop thinking about animal (yea, us too) communications - never even gave vocal speed a thought....wow. When the vocalization slowed down I thought we were hearing a Sabe' (sp?) vocalization (inside of a hammer-bull moose call.) Awesome stuff Steve..."never quit" brother.
Your choice on what animal to harvest is the choice only you have to live with. Passing an animal for a chance at the one you really want is a sacrifice that could potentially be rewarding or disappointing. Only you have to live with that. No one can legitimately say you made the wrong or right choice. God's speed, brother.
The last day? The one in the hand is better than the one in the bush , especially if the bush is a ways off. That one would have done for me and I would have been a happy camper :) But you are you and we all know you have extra high standards when it comes to hunting. I wouldn't be surprised if you'd say: the big one or none at all! That's why you are Steve the mighty hunter known by folks all over the world.
Both are incredible animals. If I had a good chance at the first one he would have been my pick, only because I like the color of his hide and the way his antlers were shaped. I've never hunted moose so I have no clue how to judge by sight what one of these two brutes would outweigh the other. For whatever reason I think possible the darker one #2 would weigh more, and I am most likely wrong. LOL.
Residents of BC have to apply for a draw on a moose tag. It takes a few years to get a tag. Some residents resent the outsiders who hire a guide, who has an allotment, and can get a tag every year if they can afford it. Both are better than the ones I saw on my hunt in BC.
Dear Steve the moose looks like he has reflectors on his antlers or rack. It is almost like he want us to know like he has some talented humor. I really like this one it fun and funny. We should call him reflector because of antlers or rack. It is cute. 😂.
As a client, I'd go for the biggest bull. As the guide, I'd settle for a lesser bull and save the big boy for a client. No guarantee the biggest bull will show up next year though.
You were right. I would of. For better or worse I would have. You are on your own level Steve. You would be fun to hike and hunt with. You can't trust everyone. My circle is small. You go to the field with clients of questionable pedigree. Not just watching for yourself but even more your client. How about a hunt story where your client was more evenly classed. What is your most favorite trip? Ok, top 5 that went right. Thanks again. I'll be back.
It's incredibly difficult to explain to someone , " it's this bull or nothing"! I myself immediately said, " I would shoot the bull in front of me! He's a great bull, lots of MEAT, blah blah blah! BUT..... the first bull had you, he got into your head, and the rest is history. There is no right or wrong here, just one mans internal struggle. I have a ton of respect for you not taking that moose, but my . 338 wm would have barked! I thoroughly enjoy your videos!
I’m happy to let him live and see how big his rack really grows. What a beautiful animal . If only hunters could learn to catch and release these big beautiful animals.
Well. For most people that would be once in a lifetime event. I would have taken it. It is mature. You can't eat antlers. The experience alone would be overwhelming. Not to difficult a decision.
Are you hunting for food or for the rack? If you need food, you take the one that presents itself. If you just want a huge rack and the meat is just a bonus then go for the big rack.
great. a similar bull must live and spread his DNA. sometimes a movie and some photoes are really better than a couple of antlers on a wall. congratulation from an italian selective hunter
Now I can imagine (if I had the skill to do so.... and I do not) getting the horse to run fast and jump over any thing in the way just like in the cowboy movies then when close pulling out the single action pistol and pulling trigger with one hand and using other hand to quickly pull hammer back again while on horse at full speed and getting that bull moose.... sounds good right? In any case I know that is a nice thought..... better yet as the horse is in the air jumping over something I pull my pistol and from the hip I get that bull moose on first shot... sounds good?
What would have done??? I would let both of these magnificent animals live. But what do I know. I do know we don't need meat to survive, in fact it is extremely hard for us to digest and is a leading cause of heart disease and stroke. Just a thought
If you have a bull tag then you have the right to shoot it. AS to what James said What happened?? Stay safe & take care of you all. Thanks for sharing eh :))
Nothing to do with the Antlers ! I would have left him alone . the Main reason as long as there is food in the grocery stores, There's no reason to kill it .
Those are both trophy animals. Having a choice I would have shot the bull that was closer to camp be because I liked his rack more than the other even though the other moose had more character.
Shot it like look at the food saving from buying from grocery store can some make persimmon with some steaks roasts smoke some why would ask that question
These mature big bulls are very important for breeding and are not the best for eating! I have killed many moose and deer for food but will always pass on these prime males for the benefit of future populations! A large rack as a “trophy” does not reflect you are a superior hunter! It is just about “ego”, IMO! I have nothing to prove to anyone!
That has to be one of the dumbest hunting videos I've ever seen... When you hunt for meat.. leave the older bulls alone. They've been around longer and they have a better gene pool.
You did your scouting homework to find the most acceptable specimen for harvest, so I'd say take the one you were after all along. You made that choice with years of game management and hunting experience and the confidence that those experiences has developed. I would bet that you got him too!
No question, the bull on hand would go down since it's the last day and closer to camp, also the other bull may have moved out of the drainage he had been seen at during the night, not a lot of difference in the 2 bulls, both are studs, going after the other bull is a gamble, all in or tag-soup, remember last day, besides as a guide the gratuity for a tag filled is sure, but were i hunting alone, fit and well rested, i would probably go for the other bull. unique situation.....
Up close and personal, Yes 🦌. What was that growling noise? It sounded like a Lion! A moose can't make that noise. About 1:15 of the way through, I had my volume kinda high and can here it really clear. Thanks Steve for the upload 👍
A bird in the hand vs a bird in the bush. That closer bull is still a stud. No certainty of even seeing the other one. I know what I'd do. Your experiences, which dwarf almost anyone else's, might dictate a different choice. Fess up What did you do?
The question was asked What would I have done I would have tagged him or at least tried too but everyone needs to make his or her own choice on that matter of what they want to tag .
