Brand: Hunter
Model: The Original
This is a 42” Hunter Original ceiling fan in the Antique White finish with a set of Antique White blades. The model number is 23827 and the fan is dated to have been manufactured in 1986. The fan features your typical 3-speed reversible motor along with all the traditional oil-bath design features of a typical Hunter Original ceiling fan and also includes a rubber isolation ring. For many years The Original was offered in both your average 52” blade span and for smaller spaces, a 36” blade span. By the mid 1980’s, Hunter, now independent from Robbins & Meyers began to seriously overhaul their product line with the exploding ceiling fan market. With the 36” model discontinued, Hunter quickly replaced that smaller size with another compact but slightly larger version of their flagship model. In comes the 42” Original which despite some minor design changes, remained in Hunter’s lineup all the way to the early 2010’s.
Overall this is a really neat fan and very well made from the solid wood blades to the cast-iron motor housing. The fan runs silently and with only minor wobble. But despite all this, it’s really not a crazy air mover. Despite the reputation for Originals having powerful CFM ratings I can honestly say the air movement is close to something you’d get from most average 42” fans from the 80’s. Comparatively, a Lady Delta has a much greater airflow on high than this 42” version of an Original. But regardless, it’s still an awesome fan.
