This episode is exactly why Filmbuff is one of the best reactors. There is an amazing amount of detail put into this anime that flies over most people's heads. Most of it includes subtle changes in the characters' psychological states, but those subtle changes can have profound effects into the future... It's great that you can read all the subtle facial expressions that the animators carefully put into the anime. Big ups.

My favourite post-episode discussion that you’ve done for HxH so far. Like you, everytime I watch this episode I am moved to tears by the pain that Killua endures, and the bond between Gon and Killua at once feels so pure and powerful and also so uneasy and unsettling. But that, right there, is the majesty and beauty of HxH.

45:00 Gon would also give his life for Killua, which we have seen in the Zoldyck arc ....in fact, the reason why he got so determined in destroying Razor is from being protective of Killua who had almost died.

I think it's interesting that though Gon was so mad about Killua having been almost killed, he didn't hesitate so much to hurt Killua's hands to beat Razor. This seems to prove Gon sees Killua not as just one of his friends but as his partner or comrade. Sometimes, people have to share their partners' goals and pains. Killua might be the only one who can do that with Gon the Monster. Yes, Killua is Gon's best friend, but actually, I suppose he is the only person with such talent and resolve as Gon and capable of being equal to him.😅 Sorry for my lack of English skills. One scene that also really characterizes Gon through someone else's eyes, but isn't talked about nearly enough, is when the Zoldyck family doorman/dog custodian Zebro judges Gon's attitude when trying to get past the Testing Gate. I think it's the least remembered.

32:41 true but in hindsight you realize that Killua follows Gon's plan bc he actually understands in an instant that this is the best option : bc Gon is the 'baka' acting on emotions and Killua the analyst, we tend to forget that Gon has incredible instincts, he is actually good at grasping the better way to solve a problem, he has those striking moments of clarity when everything aligns and he's able to assess accurately priorities and strategy when Killua sometimes is blind-sighted bc he always tries to minimize the risks and gets anxious... not a 'bad' thing ofc but sometimes you just can't avoid confrontation or danger (this is a recurring point in HxH : he's not an assassin anymore, he's a hunter!) Here Killua's proposal was to avoid Razor's throws and play safe but he misjudged the situation as Razor had way more aura/stamina than the 3 of them had left, so in a battle of attrition they would loose and probably even die at the end...the only one who tried to catch Razor's ball was Gon, he's the only one who stands a chance to beat Razor but he must do so when he still has enough stamina and he needed Killua and Hisoka's support to end this game ASAP Gon's "crazy plan" was the right choice so Killua went with it that's all 🤷🏻‍♂he's definitely not a pushover and never hesitated to argue with Gon when Gon was wrong. Bc he's actually so smart he can see instantly when Gon's ideas are genius, and that's why they're the perfect combo They're not perfect but they complete eo, they won't stay like this forever but for now they work so well together... they will change and mature that's life and friendship evolves... irl too friends can adjust and change, to have a more healthy and balanced relationship to fit their own personal evolution and needs in an organic way.. that's why I think at that point in their lives Gon&Killua are pretty good at managing their friendship in those extreme situations they're facing I like that Im is paying attention to all the details in the animation, especially those micro expressions when Gon shows hesitation, concern, and then resolve bc Killua is doing the same and he doesn't want to insult him He also keeps in mind that we are adults in our world giving opinions on '1 in a million' children's dynamic in the HxH world, so our standards are obviously not matching their, to understand how it works we must close the gap and a lazy analysis can't make it to that point... but even though the story and the characters make really good parallels with real life situations and people, that's why Togashi's writing is so captivating imo, a mix of familiarity and extraordinary, depth and mundanity

I've always thought that when Gon notices the damage in Killua's hands, he doesnt say anything untill killua say lets keep going, because he dont wanna offend killua, besides i think the replacement wouldve affect much more killua than Gon, when killua see a chance of him being replaced he get really nervious, that for me is the more worrying aspect of this, the fear that killua has to be replaced, so i dont see this like Gon not caring about Killua pain, only like Gon doesnt wanna offend killua by asking him if he want/can keep going. (Sorry for the bad spelling or phrasing, im not a native english speaker)

When Gon refused to give up during the Hunter exam, he said something along the lines of feeling that if he backs down there, he wouldn't be able to ever find his father. Same thing seems to continue here and it feels more than just tunnel-vision or reckless abandon as part of Gon's personality. It kind of seems to be hinting at there being more deep-seated psychological issues at play. And it seems to get progressively worse with each "trial" that he undertakes to prove himself that has something to do with Ging.

Yeah, concerning what you said in the discussion part about Killua not putting Gon in the same situations that Gon puts him in, I think it goes back to Killua's fear of not being a good friend. Illumi saying that he doesn't deserve friends, etc. I think that + the fact Gon is genuinely the first real bond he has with someone outside of his family is why it's more about proving to himself, and Gon that Killua won't let him down!

38:08 You call it "tunnel vision", however, it is unshakable Ownership of Choice (more like what people would call determination). It is certainly a quality, quite the rare one, yet why people see it as a flaw and label it as "stubbornness" is because they lack the assertiveness to not be influences by / roped into it. The Power of Ownership (and yes, it is a thing in real life also). . P.S. What Puhat was saying right before the Greed Island selection, along the lines of it being hard to be unflinching in who you are, especially under the pressure of others wanting you to be / act a certain way.

I first read the manga when I was little. Even from the very beginning it reads as a very unforgiving world from the eyes of sociopaths. The anime masks that with playful colours, lighthearted music and cencorship but in its core is still the same story. Well analysed!

That's sort of the conceptual juxtaposition coming from this emotion behind the sacrifice against the objective and it's consequences. Obviously, it's a touching opinion Gon holds, for Killua at least. Thus, for him is a matter of being trusted and appreciated. However, no doubt, Togashi did contextualize and show enough perspectives from other characters to make clear how destructive and self centered Gon desires and passion are. And, there were signs foreshadowing this, based on his interactions and moral views through the story. It's so unlike the 1999 Version, which misinterprets and characterizes Gon on a more lighthearted manner. Eventually, they would have these moments but they had alredy failed from the beginning when showcasing it. I do feel that makes this adaptation so faithful. However, 1999 improves and fleshes more coherent character development and tone through the settings and music, most of the times, even counting their additions that elaborates and details the plot its based on. For example, Killua and Kurapika hold the more important moments.

36:49 People seem to think that a "healthy" relationship is equal in terms of what one or the other gets out of it. And when they don't get the same thing, it's toxic. Honey, each person is an INDIVIDUAL and will want / get something different out of a relationship. People perceive through the bias of "everyone wants the same thing" (because that's what they personally would want, thus assuming everyone wants the same shit) .....but it is very normal for two individuals within a relationship to get very different things out of that dynamic. Killua is not the kind of person who'd stay within a relationship which felt like not worth his while, that's why he left home and why he doesn't actually have other friends. Not because Gon is monopolizing him, but because Killua doesn't find fascination at this point in anyone else other than Gon, and his experiencing of Gon is his own satisfaction. . P.S. Off the HxH topic example: Let's say I love to give massages, and the person I'm in a relationship with likes to receive them. Now, people would see from the outside that I'm always giving the massages and the other is always just receiving them (also based off of the assumption that everyone likes to be massaged, but not to give massages), concluding that it's un unhealthy and unbalanced relationship. Not an even give and take, right? Therein lies the misconception. Funny thing, it is exactly the OPPOSITE..... those are the most Potent relationships where the thing we want / enjoy are different and complementary. When within the same action, I get what I want, and you get what you want. There is no compromise.
@linaelh1361
@linaelh1361 6 месяцев назад
i agree 100% to call this relationship toxic just because their needs are different and not aligned is not fair it’s a misconception. Therefore if you write letters and someone likes receiving them, reinforcing that statement doesn’t make the person manipulative. Assuming that there is giving and no receiving in return between Gon and Kill is in my opinion a missed judgment.

I mean i would like for someone to show me an equal relationship 🤷 it doesn't exist. You give and the other gives and you each recieve benefits and sometimes there is a lack from one person and in another situation there is a lack from the other but both can improve and change based on communication and a mutual love to be the best they can be and the fact is there will be failure at times.

This is the episode that made Killua my favorite, since I really found myself identifying with him here. Sorry for the personal lore dump, but I also struggle with having a goal in life, or perhaps I see nothing valuable in life other than being with the people I love, so my goal is always to make the people I love the happiest they could be. A lot of human beings are selfish by nature so I do find myself getting taken advantage of quite frequently, always having an emotional dependence on people, always losing my identity in any relationship I'm in. I think it's because Killua and I have been lonely most of our lives so we really want to hold on to those around us, and we see our value only when we are of help to them and we we get noticed by them, and when they want to depend on us. The solution would be to just find people that are equally selfless, which are very hard to find in this world. Seeing Killua in this situation have brought to tears to my eyes, and Im's analysis made me cry even more cause of how spot on everything he noticed is. Great reaction as always. :)

In regards to Gon and Killua's relationship I will say.... (1) Some of the most profound and deep relationships (yes, even in real life) will seem toxic for an outsider. That is because such a relationship finds this very unique pathway to function on, from the interactions between the parties involved. They influence each other, they play off of each other, making each person ever evolving, thus a one of a kind dynamic is born. That, can look very dysfunctional or even dangerous for an outsider, especially one whose discernment is superficially based on rules of conduit. (2) While unfortunately, Killua seems to be mesmerized by Gon in an overshadowing way for himself, their relationship to this point is not toxic. Killua is just along for the ride of Gon's journey, but that's only because he doesn't have something that he wants more than the actual journey itself. It is not toxic because Killua never sacrifices what he wants for pleasing Gon....they just happen to sync so well when it comes to their way of living, which includes seemingly risking their lives for the sake of their adventures. That is what makes their bond so strong and unique.

Gon and Killua are both kids with severe traumas. Killua just wanted a friend, to be considered an equal. when he asked Canary to be his friend, she said she can't because she's a servant. he couldn't have a friend because of his positions and status. + now comes Gon, who marched into the Zoldycks without any combat abilities, willing to be beaten up to a pulp ( see the manga to see how austere his face is, Gon's face is fucked up worse than Killua's hand in this dodgeball game) just for a chance to see Killua again. + Killua, while chained up and knowing Gon is probably being slaughtered by his family's hand, let Gon do what it takes to get to him. because why not? let a friend do what a friend must do. + now let's get back to Gon in this game. Gon would die for Killua in a heartbeat. he will trade his life for Killua at any given moment, in any circumstance, without thoughts. without a single concern for his life, well-being. ------ Gon is self destructive, yes, and Killua is self sacrifice, yes. but do you understand the Samurai spirit?? it's considered an insult to not let your friend sacrifice for you, not let him be hurt for you, suffer for you, not let him die with you in battles. Killua is now an equal, a partner, somebody who protects, fortifies and sacrifice. ---- and Gon understand Killua perfectly. if he leaves Killua out of this, they were never meant to be. that's just how it is. two people who decides to die together no matter what happens. both of them are strong, independent but only once in history, the stars align and they met. + don't worry, Killua is strong. much much stronger than Gon. Gon needs him more than he needs Gon. but you will see all that later.

For example; Gon already has Ging's hunter license (Ch 1 & 38), Kite and Gon immediately recognized each other (Ch 185), Killua already knows about Kite (Ch 64), Kite saved Gon and taught him about foxbear territory.

I really wish 2011 used a different ost for that scene, cause yeah it isn't intended to be wholesome. Can't help but feel like the episode director missed the point

it shows controversy of this situation, if they used dark ost and everything it would be too obvious what they tryna show to the audience

Attack on Titan Final Part Reaction when?

According to his Patreon, he is currently rewatching the whole series leading up to the finale. I figured that must be the case since it’s taking so long. So, the finale is still coming just not sure exactly when. It sucks, but I think AOT definitely warrants a rewatch leading up to the finale especially if he hasn’t seen the whole show in its entirety in a while + long breaks in between seasons. It’ll lead to a better finale review and analysis.

Yep, I always remember Killua's job to Gon was to stop him from reckless. He can be as crazy as he wants, but Killua never had a chance to. This is a toxic relationship for sure, it's just people usually ignore all those red flags.
@emanueladadarlat3159
@emanueladadarlat3159 6 месяцев назад
That's your own perception from the assumption that Killua wants to be like Gon, but can't in order to balance him out. That's not what's happening. They are naturally so distinct in the way they function, which led to those "roles" within their dynamic, yet neither of them if forcing themselves to be in a certain way for the sake of the other. And that's precisely why their relationship is so strong, deep and naturally flowing.

14:02 I liked to see a bit of commentary while you were still on, and not the screenshots. And left us with quite the statement / question: "Hunters are selfish creatures or beings, after all....ei, Ging?" Btw, I do want to say that this "selfishness" that the show keeps eluding to is in fact an Ownership of what you want in life. Simple as that. In the same time quite difficult to develop this kind of brutal honesty with self. It's the kind of 'selfish' you'd want to have .....or more acurately said, it ceases to be selfishness. It's something else.

I hate so much sometimes how anime use narrator in the start or in the end of episodes. Like here and in episode 68 they tried to scary us TWICE with the “omg Hisoka here, he is such wild card what he is going to do” and it leads nowhere! Because we know he is here to help and chill. That’s it. Hate such cheap hype
