Apologies for the odd cuts at 38:20 and 1:22:49. We had some copyright issues with TMS in regards to some of the Cybersix footage and didn't want to risk a copyright strike fighting it or time it would take to go through the dispute process. Fortunately most of the cut bits aren't vital to the conversation, but it did mean we had to remove the section of John discussing his favorite episode (the one about a werewolf lady, obviously). If you want to hear that section in its entirety, you can go listen to the uncut audio version, which you can find on versuswolves.libsyn.com or any podcast app like Spotify or Itunes.
don't lie, we all know those are the moments where John began screaming incoherently and wildly masturbating at the thought that HE DID IT. HE GOT WOOLIE TO WATCH IT
@@AgenteIg It's in reference to the live action Street Fighter movie in which there's a point the main antagonist is talking to one of the maine characters and says, "The day Bison graced your village was the most important day of your life. But for me, it was Tuesday." Basically, Woolie is jokingly trivializing John's epic origin story down to "Yeah I barely remember doing that thing that started your entire career, but good on you!"
Shit fully lost, but I was also expecting Woolie to recommend that John play it with his wife and that would somehow result in fisticuffs during the next episode.
I am ALWAYS down for more blood pool action. I still waffle between that and the 13 Sentinels LP as the best LPs I've ever watched (definitely not because my poll got the results read on stream in a play session now lost to time).
The idea thay mr. Eyepatch "I can turn any video into an existencial horror narrative" Wolf can be brought to shivers with just Woolie in a suit is what makes every episode of this podcast sich a treat
@@somedudewatchintv5297 John threw down the gauntlet by making their entire friendship come full-circle with HxH and accidentally created a persona when he switched from the white to black headphones, so Woolie decided that he'd show up to the function like it was a business meeting and "put his best foot forward" to one-up John.
1:36:57 "That's one of the most low budget things..." John, as an argentinian I can confidently say this is one of Telefe's most high budget, high concept productions out there.
Usually it's john pulling out the weird pocket picks but this week Woolie managed not only to throw off his whole schedule by name dropping "the view from halfway down" but also threw him a heck of a curveball. I'm not 100% sure AI was the way to go, would have preferred he make john play it with one other person, but we'll see how things turn out next month.
@@michaelbecker7288 AI in Dokapon is basically varying degrees of perfect play. John has the Catholic Guilt, which prevents him from choosing any difficulty level other than CBT, lest he feel shame from not suffering enough. Those CPUs will meta the shit out of him unless he studies the DokaLore
WOOLIE WASNT LYING I POPPED OFF SEEING DOKAPON!!! I FUCKING SAW IT AND BURST OUT LAUGHING, THE BIT WORKED!! God I hope at some point John at least plays a round or two with friends because it’s brutal
ATTENTION COMMENTS: There is a library of videos related to Woolie's recommendation on his own channel: the entire fucking saga is absolutely worth the watch.
I don’t know what’s more John: making an hour long YT video with no prior experience out of spite and turning it into a career or finding out that his entire career and adult life was based on the simple misunderstanding that Woolie was talking about the ‘99 HxH 😂
@@psykomancer4420I remember one of the random pages I saw online was that highschool chick trying to sneak into Cybersix’s apartment, seeing Data7, slamming the door shut and thinking “he’s into some freaky shit/beastiality???”
i feel insane being a 27 yo argentinian who had no idea about cybersix until last podcast, and having everyone who i asked about it tell me how have i never seen it.
The oddest "How did THAT get made into a kid's TV show?" for me will always be Jhonen Vasquez. Not anything specific. Just the fact that someone, somewhere, saw Johnny the Homicidal Maniac and thought "Yeah...yeah, that guy would be great at a kid's show!" And they were right. Somehow.
Woolie so real for singing the CyberSix theme song. Also perfectly described the experience of being a kid in Canada and stumbling across this show back in the day.
This is now one of my absolute favorite pieces of media. John's desire to create stories out of anything is coming back to bite him in the best ways, and Woolie is so warm until pushed. They're developing characters for this yet again, and I'm having such a great time watching it
The progressing attempts to match or exceed the other’s energy from previous episodes is a fantastic bit. From the end of the Omikron episode leaving Woolie in terror to the start of this one leaving John in terror. Masterful. These wolves truly are versus. Bravo Nolan!
I think Cybersix got away with a lot of what it did and wound up flying under the radar (for the most part) was because the whole issue of gender identity wasn't nearly so politicized back then. Sure, things definitely weren't good for trans and gender-queer people, and general attitudes towards those issues have improved and certainly become better understood, but at least it wasn't an issue that was being used as ammunition to galvanize the moral majority yet. The manufactured moral outrage just hadn't been focused in that direction back then.
One minute in and I am reminded that Woolie Madden is not to be fucked with... Just got to the end and indeed Woolie is far more brutal than I could have imagined.
John: "trying to force someone to like the same things as you do is the same as taking away a piece of them and replacing it with a piece of you" Me: side eyeing the comments section for Woolies slop stream. Also John: " Don't skip to the end! You're supposed to watch the whole podcast!" Me: starts sweating
I WISH I could've been a fly on the wall for the exact moment Woolie realized what he was going to do this episode. I can only imagine the sheer unhinged energy he must've had. Also, I cannot help but imagine what would've happened had Woolie done this kind if thing on CSB. I can't decide if Pat would just be weirded out or start freaking the fuck out.
The immediate secondhand dread I felt upon seeing Woolie's outfit made me sit up and start pacing my hallway wearing a manic grin. 10000/10 intimidation play Woolie, well done.
the Reveal with him opening the suitcase i legitimately stood up and started clapping as someone who got their friends into that with the steam release, i'm so here for spreading it around
So when I first saw Woolie in the suit I was like “He’s gonna kill John with piano wire by the end of this podcast”. Then I got to the recommend portion and realized I was kinda right
17:00 I think I know what John's saying here? Like Hades' design has an identity that feels like it has been perfected by a single artistic lens (Jen Zee's) over the years. Compare that to other attractive character design types (Over Watch, Genshin Impact, etc) that feel more like they have a bit more of a design-by comittee feel. Which maybe is unfair because I do really love many of those game's character designs. Maybe to put it differently, Hades feels like the realization of an aesthetic that clearly began as someone drawing these character designs in the margin of their highschool/college text books. Whereas the others maybe came about later after deliberation and collaboration of many artistic ideas in a work environment.
Blizzard literally had a Diversity & Inclusivity points system for the Overwatch cast, so you're right on there. Pat and Woolie even talked about it on CSB. And judging by how the system pointed things, Pat was more of a minority character than Woolie.
I know Woolie from Super best friends days, I knew John only by other people mentioning him, glad I rediscovered both of you guys, I needed some good content AND another good podcast to listen to! Finally the algorithm doing a good thing, it was about time..
First time I read Berserk I tapped out at the eclipse. It just seemed so cruel and nihilistic. I didn't re-read until I heard Casca recovered, and what I found was a story about an abuse victim finding connections with people and healing from trauma. Oh yeah there's badass fights amd stuff but there's a *there* there that elevates the material. I'm so glad I gave it a second chance.
"What you can't hear is the sound of people losing their minds right now." -A line I heard woolie deliver while I was laughing hysterically at the events unfolding
I got light headed from how much I freaked out at Woolie's recommend, holy shit. If only Woolie could have gotten John to play with people and not just AI.
I mean the issue is scheduling right? Finishing an entire dokapon game with friends over the course of a month is a pretty big ask, but the CPUs make it doable.
