Anto, Brad, Morgs and Cameraman Dave head into the Mid Burn block over first period, and whilst things don't quite pan out as planned, this trip will be one they will certainly never forget!
I really enjoyed this video, high quality and well filmed, thanks. Yes, a pity you had to come out as in reality you were all safer in Fiordland, but rules are rules!! I am 66 and still hoping to get to Fiordland, maybe not carrying quite the load that you guys were. Lady luck smiled on you at the end.
Great vid Guys , Not to sure you should of shot that stag though? I dont think there should be trophy shooting in Fiordland for a least 5 years ? the current trophy quality is Rubbish .
As Anto explained, he was never going to amount to much, and given that the FWF need to now remove 1000 animals a year from Fiordland, us banging over a cull stag isn't going to affect the trophy calibre of the herd. Going off the trail cam footage that's being captured and a couple of the heads that came out last year, the work that's being done by the FWF is resulting in more impressive trophies, you just need to work hard to find the 'one'. It'll never compare with the US for consistent trophies, but it is what it is - hunting in some of the most spectacular landscape on the planet is the upside.
Hey Dan, sorry for the slack reply, they were Tatonka Kyrjka one man tents (hopefully I've spelt that correctly). Awesome piece of kit, incredibly fast to put up
We've moved into using Leupold optics for this series of the show, probably a better fit for the style of hunting we're doing and more relevant to the bulk of the kiwi audience who tune in. The Leica gear was great, don't get me wrong, but price-wise it was a hard sell for us to encourage punters to shell out for gear that's really fractionally better quality these days.
Great watch, great filming , great story thanks guys Out of interest, what are the tramping poles yous are using, and opinions on them or recommendations?
What a great but hard hunt, beautiful country! Maybe someday I'll get over to that part of the world and get to experience the roar. I absolutely love hunting elk here in the rut. A gear list that you used would be awesome if you would share please. Congrats on actually being able to pull one out in such a time crunch, it worked out to perfect timing! Hope you're all doing well with your families and thanks for sharing.
I watched this after lockdown , crazy how intense things got and funny to know how everything was going to turn out while watching all the messages you were getting
Was a pretty crazy time alright. Was only filming the InReach stuff and Covid Interviews to create a little behind the scenes type clip, and it ended up being the guts of the whole episode.
