Love you guys!! It seems kinda simple - gather some food, build a fire, eat the food, end of episode...and yet, your artistry with the camera, your chemistry together, and the way you weave visual, music, and story together is so satisfying to watch. Laughed so hard with the outtakes at the end!😊 And it's the soothing nature of the land and your relationship with it that's very compelling.

As a puertorican, you guys make my heart sing. I've never seen someone make mofongo on a river, let alone without really knowing how to do it. Tips, 1st bacon fat,2nd fried plantain, 3rd " chicharrones ". Mash plantain, bacon fat and garlic and then add the chicharrones. Use a small bowl ,make it with a space in the middle, fill it with whatever you have and then turn it over, and VOILA Mofongo 😂😂😂

After harvesting the banana, the banana tree must be cut down because it only produces one bunch. So you don't need to climb the banana tree. Cut the tree with the bunch. Cutting 1 tree will allow 4, 5 fresh trees grow from the roots, which will produce 4, 5 bunches

I have a simple idea that might clear up the water, create a sound to sleep by at the top of the hill, and might keep most of the shrimp in two or three pools on your creek. Build a two or three foot rock dam using rocks and maybe a little cement. By slowing the water into two or three deeper pools behind installing a dam[s]... it should become much clearer. It also will be very rewarding and fun building the dam[s]. Of course, start with one to experiment the best way! Then once the pools are deeper and clearer, go buy some fresh water fish that are considered great to eat. STOCK YOUR POND[S]! Hope you like my idea!
@enmodo
@enmodo 8 месяцев назад
It would be fun to do but I'm skeptical if they would survive the volume of water during heavy rains. Probably needs a robust spillway to take the excess.
@tokanosunsay3653
@tokanosunsay3653 8 месяцев назад
Great idea, if implemented properly, it will work out.
@Readerb86g
@Readerb86g 8 месяцев назад
Enmodo is correct to consider that. Ohio in the '50's attempted multiple small dams across small streams as well and it was a complete flop. Your stream is even larger than many of those that were tried. You need storage capacity behind the "dam" to contain the water as the spillway controls the increased flows. Typically the failure is around one (or both) ends. I had a state agency insist they wanted to attempt that in the '90's, regardless of my reservations. I used a (spare) highway box beam, added concrete wing walls on the ends, excavated and packed the abutments with clays, as much as possible. Plenty of decent rock over those areas. It was very cool for a few years, but met the same fate within about 6 years.

Those shrimp you got we call them "gata" and "Guabara"..The gata is the one that has some naily claws..You may boil them in salted water and they will turn orange red..They are excellent for a flavored soup or rice..The best way te catch them is by using a net or a trap.
@eugeniobalzac4444
@eugeniobalzac4444 7 месяцев назад
The Gata are the ones you will regularly find in strong current, they use those front pointy legs to cling to rock and avoid being swept away, guabaras can be found in the hundreds in some pools. Night time is the best time to hunt for the large langostinos. The crabs are called buruquenas. When your plantain or banana have sprouted all of their fruit and the purple flower is hanging below you want to cut off the flower and the first section (Mano) off. That allows the rest of the fruits to grow larger and faster.

This is amazing what the 2 of you have accomplished. When I seen that old building my memories of what my Mother told me about when my Father took my Mother to Corozal,PR to meet his Mother and Father. She said that the house looked like a barn and when it rained it leaked bad. This was about 1971. My Father told me he had to walk to the river to get water for his Mother. It made feel like I was there when I seen this video

We love your little piece of paradise… One of the best things you can do when you on your own land is to plant fruit trees right away because they take a while to establish and produce fruit. I’m sure you can have things like citrus trees, grapefruit, oranges, lemons, limes, and especially mango. Should do well in that area. Go to your local garden center this spring and get any plants that would do well that you don’t already have on your land And you will never be sorry

Nice little meal. As I understand it, shrimp are in saltwater, and prawns are in freshwater. I’m in Hawaii, if you harvest the taro, make sure you research how to properly prepare it. If it’s not done right, it can cause throat irritation. Typically it’s boiled, and pounded into a paste called poi, but also sliced thin and deep fried to make chips. Look around your property for a breadfruit tree, it’s quite possible you already have some. Good luck and enjoy. Aloha.

you can either make or buy net traps that you can bait with some fish and throw in your creek and the shrimps and such will come to you and this is a method of catching fish that goes back thousands of years. You can make something similar to a lobster trap or open frame mesh. The basic concept is a funnel going into a containment area. That way when you’re pray goes up the ramp and in to the containment area it’s being guided, but when it’s ready to get out the cone which is a singular opening up in the center of the trap they tend to follow the ramp on the inside, back down and end up, stuck within because they can’t rationalize go out through the opening. You can search a lot about primitive fishing and get other ideas on how to catch whatever’s in your creek with nets baskets in other kinds of equipment That you can either make or buy

When I'm cooking at home and something misses the pan and falls on the floor I throw it away. When I'm outdoors and it falls on the ground I pick it up and put it in the pan. 😂 The heat will kill any germs and the way I grew up out door food should have a little dirt in it.😂

We never ate that stuff from a creek or river. Well when we tried it had a horrible mud taste and we found out it was full of parasites. Left them to live and for other wildlife to eat them. I’m wondering how you harvested the other items in your meal, the cooking oil, the seasonings, and the pork? From what I’m seeing you found the prawns, plantains, and leaf to wrap the prawns. The other items appear store bought including the pot. When I was young we would pick some fruit that grows on our property and some fresh veggies fro mt he garden for a salad and cook hot dogs and marshmallows on a fire out back. This reminds me of that.
