First off big fan bearded woodsman. Just a question why are you using shotgun with slug. Why not a rifle such as a 308, etc. shotgun is never going to be a precision rifle, and even a cheap rifle will preform better imho.
@@curtgaming414 It's a shotgun only zone...so you that's all you can use :( I totally agree with you though. I think the idea is to limit the range...safety thing I guess.
Nearly every hunter has lost game that they shot. The fact that you spent many hours tracking and grid searching shows you care and are a sustainable hunter. Great vid full of honesty, thanks for sharing.
Anyone who hunted for any period of time, has gone through losing a deer. I hate it too, but it is the reality of hunting. Stay safe and God Bless. Joe in MS
Anybody who has ever hunted, if they are truthful with themselves, either have had this happen to them, or know someone who has. It's a rough experience that makes us sick, but we live and learn. We don't do it purposefully, but it happens. Keep your head up, my friend and get them next time!
I’m from Los Angeles and I never experienced the outdoors and I’ve made it my goal to one day go hunting and your videos always teach me something new. Thank you
Hey WoodBeard, next time a good idea might be to ask someone with hunting dogs to help out. I don't know about your area but there are many in the Kawarthas that do it out of the goodness of their hearts (I don't believe they're allowed to charge) just to make sure an animal is humanely dispatched and a tag doesn't go to waste. Personally if I shot a deer and knew it was likely dead, I would count my tag as filled whether I found it or not. Not everyone shares that mindset, though. Good luck with your future hunts!
I don't hunt but love to watch all your trapping hunting fishing videos. This one is famtastic you show in detail what it takes to get a deer . I didnt see that deer at all till you whent mama then I finally saw the deer
Great video sir. This is the natural progression of sportsmen and women. Hunt, learn, hunt some more and learn there is so much more to learn. Very well done.
This is a good lesson to all hunters and outdoorsman.... ALWAYS know and check your gear. Always confirm your zero even if it has been good the last 5 years. It can be the difference between getting a freezer full of food or spending hours frustrated in the bush tracking a ghost. It sucks you lost that deer Chris. I lost a deer a couple years ago and I still feel bad for wounding an animal and not being able to retrieve it. Chin up, still lots of archery season left, and muzzle loader too. I do not have access to alot of property here in Ontario but I can ask around and see if one of my buddies that got lucky would allow you onto one of their hunting spots.
Thanks. I know there are some areas that get better into the winter months as the deer yard up. Unfortunately I don't have one of those spots, they actually get worse as crops get pulled and leaves drop.
@@TheWoodedBeardsman haha I know ! Same story where I'm at, once the crops (food) and leaves fall (cover), the deer take off for the cedar swamps to the North. I've heard there are some fairly significant deer yards not too far north of where I am along Hwy 7. Plenty of crown land there so it's huntable land, public land hunts are always tricky but I'm sure with your knowledge you'd have a good chance at a deer if you could spend a few days up in the deer yards.
Lesson learned. With that, check your bow sights and shoot some arrows to be sure everything is dialed in before going out, and happy hunting. Looking forward to the next video.
Chris, you are welcome to come down to NW Pennsylvania and hunt with me. Archery runs the entire month of October thru the second week of November, then again Dec 26- mid January. Flintlock muzzleloader is also December 26- mid January. I'd be glad to school you in the practical use of the flintlock. I've taken many does with it over the years. Matt.
Hey Chris, it is definitely is all about balance in the world for mother nature. I wish you all the luck for your next deer and always look forward to seeing more adventures! Cheers!
I’ve recovered a single lung deer a week later 2.5 miles from my stand. Crows and buzzards were circling or I would never have found the deer. Total loss on the meat and made me feel sick to my stomach for making a poor shot. Morale of the story.. happens to everyone buddy. Coyotes and foxes have to eat too, circle of life man.
I Like your frankness. It has happened to all of us. I zeroed my rifle. Gave it to my son for an hour of dove hunting, got it back without knowing he had let it slip off a tree and fall onto a rock. Result/ wild misses. When I re-zeroed, I found very similar results to yours. Slightly high and right. I learned a lesson. You don't loan your rifles. Maybe for you, it is, zero the rifle right before a hunt. I dunno. But I'm still subscribed and you got another like!
It's a bit of extra investment but a cantilever slug barrel is totally worth the money, that way the scope stays with the barrel and never loses zero. Because shotgun barrels don't fit their receiver all that tightly the setup you have it doesn't necessarily have to even be loose, but you could zero it, take the barrel off and put it back on and lose zero because the barrel isn't perfectly where it was before.
Love your videos keep up the great work!! I wish I could be like you always in the outdoors you've inspired me to try and get out there more thank you for everything you've done!!
I respect the time you put into tracking that deer. Haters will hate but every hunter has probably lost deer sometime. It's so unpredictable and like you said, it's probably the most critical part of the hunt. I'd say 10% skill and 90% luck at times with deer.
You cant lose me as a sub for living and learning. Anyone who thinks they know everything and can do anything without practice is only fooling themselves. Great video.
Chris it happens to the best of us. Life goes on and fullstop. If you move the heat away and have about 5to 8 feet to the smoker you get a better smoking and flavor.
The rem 870 with receiver scope mount is notoriously inaccurate. I had one and struggled to keep it on a pie plate out to 100 yards. My recommendation would be to get a barrel with a cantilevered scope mount. Better yet sell it and buy a savage 220 or H&R slug hunter. Happy hunting!
I subscribed to you because I thought you were crazy eating tree bark and what not, after watching for about a year i have changed my mind, considering I haven’t really left my house to much for the past year, this makes up for it!
Good job on jerky looks so delicious....happens sometimes with hunting every hunter lost a deer. I’m a bow hunter and Somtimes when im not sure I'll wait 2- 3 hours before trackin i do understand its was warm but 3 hours wont make deer go bad... also i dont even use trail cameras at all. Every time you check it, youre applying pressure to your hunting ground.. I like to sit close to a deer trail or sign all day and usaually i see more with my eyes than the camera can capture....youll get that deer soon i like your deer split roast video Thankyou for awesome RU-vid channel and videos Keep up the good work brother!
@@TheWoodedBeardsman you'll get er bro i had similar experience when i came down stand too soon and was looking at blood but deer was actually laying down near by and got spooked and took off 2 miles or so had a hell of a grid search myself... but next hunt luck was on my side...it will be on yours too God bless my brother!🦌🦌🦌🦌🐕 get a good dog brother so you can train him to smell the blood trail... my dog is a pit bull , poodle mix lol and his nose is great!
Man I totally understand your pain. I shot a doe on the weekend also lung shot I tracked her for 5 hours. She laid down about a dozen times. Ended up losing her tracks. It's never something you want to happen in a hunt.
I used my bird dogs several times to help friends find downed deer. Although not super interested in dead deer they would stop and check out an animal long enough to lead you to the deer.
I've never hunted, but now I see it requires more patience than I would have. It looked like you took your time making sure you had a good shot. Better luck next time.
Good job on keeping it real man. You should try my jerky recipe. 1 gallon water 2 liter pepsi 3 good tbs Minced garlic 3 tbs salt 4 tbs or to taste Black pepper 1 cupBrown sugar 4 tbs pink cure 1 small bottle worcheatershire sauce Amounts depend on you're taste The pepsi helps break down the meat Let soak in brine for a couple days and you will have very flavorful jerky with a glazed outside.
sorry you could not find the deer. i have been hunting deer 35 years now and you want find all the deer you shoot you did all you could . l am glad to see hunters like you still being honest about it .
Man, I love your bushcrafting episodes. And your survival challenges. But I've watched your episodes where you give your partner hell for not sharpening their fish hooks like you do....just saying man. But thank you again for all your cool videos. And the knowledge you share with us. 👍. Just start putting the slugs where you send the shot on the partridges. No tracking involved lol. God bless you and your family. Thanks again for all you do👍
I like your attitude about "live and learn". I was able to shoot 2 deer this year and we hanged them up for 3 days, but it was too warm and the meat got stinky. Too bad, I'm not sure if I am going to be able to get the meat now.
Yep, full circle. Nothing goes to waste. I shot a beautiful deer last year that ended up feeding coyotes and bald eagles but I harvested two roadkill deer. Great video Keep it real 👊 Full stop
GREAT JOB ,GOOD HUNT ,YOUR NOT THE FIRST TO LOSS A DEER MY FRIEND. HAVE FUN AND LIKE YOU SAID YOUR DOING VIDEOS TO LEARN AS WELL AS SHARING WITH US ALL GOD BLESS AND THANKS LOVE YOUR VIDEOS
I love the realness of this. Similar thing happened to me with a marlin 336 and a loose barrel. Glad you got to at least eat some venison at the end of it all.
Great content, brother. Sorry you lost that doe. In a way it was a good thing, considering what you learned from the experience. The jerky looks amazing, I might cut some muscle meat up and marinate about 3 lbs tomorrow. Tell my boy Kevin I said hello!
I was raised to only take kill shots. One time I shot a nice buck from a tree, waited an hour and when I snuck up to where I thought he should be, the 3 does with him spotted me and they ran along with the buck. My buddy and I tracked him until he made it onto property where it was going to take so long to call the game warden, call the company, and so forth that the meat would be ruined by the time we got it, so we gave up. I saw him start to drop when I hit him and saw where he stopped the bubbles, lungs, and a ton of blood were right where he was, I don't know how he lasted that long. By the way, shotgun slugs aren't accurate at the distance you're shooting.
Great tactacam video. Loved it even though you couldn't find the deer. Would have been happy if you would've found it and got your deer. Hopefully you'll get a big buck in the future.
I always sight in my gun every year to make sure it is sighted right, many times the scope and gun get knocked around thru the year. Good video, ive lost deer to it always hurts but it happens.
You'll get one next year bud you always have a good way of looking at situations and are always very honest now I don't like the asmar videos or whatever they are but you will never lose me as a subscriber or friend keep up the good work man
@@TheWoodedBeardsman you welcome man tell you the truth I'm only 30 years old and your like that long distance uncle that has taught me alot about the outdoors and I appreciate it especially can't wait till you start the trapping season and good luck in Ontario man you got this man
Ive lost a few in my life dont feel bad. If possible get you a 20ga bolt action. You'll never have that issue again plus they very accurate up to 200 yards. 3 inches high at 100 you dead on at 2. Good luck next time and God bless.
Hey congrats bro! I think that first scope bump is just a rite of passage bud. Enjoy, any hunters know how that feels. However that good meat makes it feel so much better! Lol. Well i guess thats what i get, for not finishing the vid, before i spoke. Sry bro, it will happen.
The deer won't be wasted, scavengers will eat it. Wolves and coyotes will find it and it'll feed them. Don't feel to bad, it happens to everyone. Greetings from Wisconsin usa.
