Lost Hunter Solo Survival Challenge (NO Food, NO Water, NO Shelter) | Knife, Saw, 22 Long Rifle

I test my survival skills in the Canadian forest to survive with just the things I carry in my small backpack. I'll survive with just a knife, saw, and my 22 long rifle. My Spices (Shop and Support): www.thewoodedbeardsman.com/shop/
I will make a primitive friction fire with a cedar spindle and a cedar base or hearth board. I'll shoot a grouse, pluck and cook it over an open fire and build a shelter with materials I find in the woods. I'll build a simple lean-to shelter with sticks, and make an epic fire to cook wild edibles I find in the forest.
I'm fortunate to find some fall wild foods including black walnuts, and apples, though they are a little far gone to be completely seasonal. So I cook them and dry them over the fire to make them edible. Thankfully I find a stream to purify water, but I also show you you can drink water from snow.
Primitive challenge with a few simple basic tools. I will show you how to start a fire using primitive techniques and cook a wild grouse over an open fire. Survival is all about making the best of a bad situation. Staying warm and dry is the key to staying alive. After survival is taken care of, it's all about making your situation even better. Finding food, water, and making a shelter is a must to create ultimate survival comfort. I use a saw and basic tools to make a bushcrafter shelter in the Canadian forest using materials around us like tree branches and dried grass.
I attempt a friction fire using primitive technology - a cedar spindle, hearth board, and some birch bark and cedar shavings for a tinder bundle. Can I get a fire lite in tough conditions?
Can you eat snow? Find out!

Chris your channel and videos have helped me tremendously. I broke my ankle last year and had 6 surgeries 3 casts 2 metal cages and a boot on my foot and im still laid up because i keep getting an infection in there and i fell 2 months ago and re-broke it again and its basically shattered. There is no solid bone left to put plates and screws in there to repair it. I cannot walk on it at all so im basically in the bed or in my wheelchair and it is extremely depressing and your videos put a smile on my face every time i watch them. I thoroughly enjoy watching you go out in the wilderness and live off the land. I learn allot from your videos but most of all they make me happy and i just wanna say thank you very much!! I was raised a bit different than most girls. My dad taught me how to get by in the woods, mountains, etc. starting at age 6. From waterproof matches, to water purification pills and so on. What to eat what not to eat, how to catch things. Now the "grubs" was a bit rough, but some of the other stuff wasn't half bad. Now much older, I am amazed at how many people would die within a week if stranded out somewhere. Birch bark for asprin, certain bugs, roots, bulbs, yep, he told me "Be prepared in case you need to take care of yourself in the wild till you can be found, or help comes, or you find someone" Lessons learned.

Of all the outdoor camping, bushcraft, survival videos i've ever seen, this one is my favorite. I wish you did more like this. It has the comfortable outdoor living. Most people just focus on 'SURVIVAL' 'EXTREME'. The world has enough of them. You remind me of Ray Mears old stuff before the 2000s hit and every outdoor channel started to become Xtreme. You make several experiments with this one, such as gathering materials to set a trap that fail, but it doesn't matter because you are in your element. You pick up a nest, and just share what you find along the way. Feels like a fairy tale in a way. The environment is also breathtaking. If you ever read this comment, please share the location. Your channel name should also be Woodbeard. Hope all is well in Canada.

I would have loved to see the use of that para cord in a spring snare trap, or a double spring snare trap. It could have been very helpful around the walnut grove, with the apples. have the materials ready to set, and just install it before going back to camp. Then come morning, go see if you caught anything. Perhaps another survival video could show the use of such snare traps.

Just a note on foraged foods and their relative value .. in a situation where one is not intending to remain on a location for a long time, yes - walnuts are not a good choice, since they require either time or energy to prepare; hazelnuts or pecans would be much better. For long term occupation, nuts are fantastic: they keep a long time without extra steps required for preservation, and are a good source for protein and calories.

Excellent. Began gathering skills working for the Youth Conservation Corps reworking Barr Trail (Pikes Peak) during the Summer of '77. A teen on a dark path was given a choice, Barr or pick up trash downtown. That decision changed my life. Live on.

Hunter-gatherer adults usually live until 60 years old. The average lifespan was so low because there was a lot of death during childbirth. Also, hunter-gatherers lived in a tribe and usually had all afternoon too hang out and relax because the hunting and gathering would be done in the morning.

My first piece of advice is always have a “safety bearing” like a road or river or hydro cut that you can’t miss if you head in a rough cardinal direction.

@@rjstewart *I noticed on your channel you have a respect for the keto diet. We've practicing keto for 2 years now. How do you feel about intermittent fasting as a subtle training for potential food shortages, famine?*
@rjstewart
@rjstewart 3 года назад
Christian Prepper it’s like you are in my head lol. At the point in the video where he is talking about calories I was thinking about this. I do IF and when I go out hunting I will often eat for the first time when I get home in the evening. Not only is it a healthy lifestyle from my research but it’s also good training for a survival situation. Not so much physical training but mental training. If you’re out there thinking “I have to get food!!!” you will not do as well as someone who has practice fasting and has built up confidence that the hunger pains will go away and know they are NOT going to die or pass out if they don’t eat today. Also there’s the fact most of us carry several days or more worth of fat reserves on our bodies! Lol

@@rjstewart *"and know that they are NOT going to die or pass out if they don't eat today", is the most insightful comment I've heard yet. On the Discovery show "Dual Survival", Cody Lundin was always saying that because their objective was to be rescued within 3 days, food was not top of the list & simple grazing wild foods would suffice but WATER & THERMOREGULATION is top of the list.* *Sadly though most westerners, especially Americans, are brainwashed into thinking 3 meals a day PLUS snacks is necessary.*

Christian Prepper I like the rule of 3s you probably know already. It helps to prioritize things. A fire for example is probably top of my list because it can keep you from freezing long before you die of thirst. It can provide light and keep predators away at night and smoke to keep bugs away too. It can be used to sanitize water as well of course. There is one aspect of the rule of 3s I heard once and fire plays into this too. It’s “You can’t survive 3 seconds without hope”. Obviously it’s hyperbolic but it’s a good point to remember and starting a fire is a positively uplifting thing for the human spirit! Just ask Tom Hanks! Lol

The most impressive thing about your video, which was a pleasure to watch in general, was you overt optimism. If I were lost, I think it would be difficult for me to muster the kind of genuine optimism you displayed. Still, you made it clear to me that real survival necessitates a positive mental attitude and you have that in spades. Thank you for all the great tips.
