IN THE MOOD FOR LOVE representation, and a name drop? You're spoiling me! So far this sale, I have picked up: - The Lodger: A Tale of the London Fog - Foreign Correspondent - The Furies - The Gunfighter - The Renown Westerns: Five Films Directed by Budd Boetticher I want to buy more Hitchcock, Kurosawa, and classic westerns this sale. The stores in L.A. are hella competitive though!

And if you’ve ever seen EVERYTHING EVERYWHERE ALL AT ONCE, there’s an homage to IN THE MOOD FOR LOVE. I wish they’d upgrade the entire WKW box set to 4K. I got the blu right before they announced the ITMFL 4K. Based on how you talk about other films, you would really like WKW. Start with CHUNGKING EXPRESS or DAYS OF BEING WILD. Then work your way through his 90s films. Then ITMFL. Thank me later. :)

Days of Heaven in 4K is one hell of a ride. Was fortunate enough to see it on its cinema re-release in the UK last year and is just gorgeous. McCabe similarly (with a different aesthetic, for sure) is also beautiful and I cannot wait to see that on 4K eventually. Glad that you picked up Sisters. It's definitely disturbing, but I think it will be Grace's cup of tea for sure!

I’m massive fan of McCabe & Mrs Miller and it’s considered to be by some to be an Anti-Western. Julie Christie is also in Don’t Look Now with the late Donald Sutherland. I also recommended that Bernie be added to the Criterion Collection in Criterion Pre-Game Livestream on MegaMikeTheMovieMan’s channel recently. Also, Brian De Palma was definitely influenced by Hitchcock and Sister’s is quite bizarre.

Another great show! Altman’s “3 Women“ is such a classic. This is how much I enjoyed it- the case came in the mail from Amazon cracked. But I kept it anyway! I’ll probably upgrade it if it ever comes out in 4K , but you guys should know that it’s one of his most dreamlike films. Incredible performances from the cast, but especially Shelly Duvall and Sissy Spacek. This is the first film that showed what incredible range both actresses have and I hope you love it as much as I do. The Altman film DJ was thinking of is “Thieves Like Us.” Written by the woman who wrote “Nashville.” Also, when you did the introduction from the car, I didn’t realize you had the kids with you. I was wondering how you kept them so quiet and out of sight- were they asleep in the backseat? Not really important, just wondering as a fellow parent. 😉😂🤷‍♂️

In terms of crime, two movies I think are a must for the Collection are "Purple Noon" & "The American Friend". They are 2 different takes on Patricia Highsmith novels. Both, but especially the latter film has a fantastic visual look to it. It's a Wim Wenders movie. Several other directors have cameos, such as Nicholas Ray & Samuel Fuller. With "Purple Noon" you get many greats, but Alain Delon really pops as Tom Ripley. I would thusly say the same of Dennis Hopper's take on the character in "The American Friend". Visually I must note the Wender's film is boosted by the cinematography of Robby Müller who also shot "Paris, Texas" for Wenders.

@pete49327 currently watching that, was one of my Wenders themed pick-ups this month alongside the 4k of Perfect Days (preordered) & the Road Trilogy on blu ray. Müller's cinematography in "Until The End Of The World" is something else. Fantastic all around.

@pete49327 fully that that with "Until The End Of Time". I'm a Massive fan of Lou Reed & so something like "Perfect Days" looks dazzling to me. "Faraway, So Close!" & also "Until The End Of The World" have Lou Reed songs as well. "Why Can't I Be Good" & "What's Good" respectively. With "Perfect Days" there is apparantly "Pale Blue Eyes" the Velvet Underground song as well as Reed's "Perfect Day". Reed appears in "Faraway, So Close!" and "Palermo Shooting" (which featured "Some Kinda Love" by the Velvet Underground) playing himself both times. Fascinating film relationship between Reed & Wenders. Wim Wenders uses music honestly like few other directors.

3 Women. Shelley Duvall and Sissy Spacek are sooooo good. Agree it’s one of Altman’s best. Endlessly rewatchable. If you like revisionist or Anti-Western’s like McCabe, with its Leonard Cohen soundtrack, you should definitely see Pat Garrett with its famous Bob Dylan soundtrack. He also acts in it. Sooo good. It’s so expensive because it’s really a box set. There are two 4K’s: the new restoration (watch first) plus the original studio butchered theatrical. And a Blu-ray of Pekinpah’s personal preview cut, the last version he worked on. McCabe, Pat Garrett, Heaven’s Gate (restored) and Pekinpah’s own Wild Bunch are the best anti-westerns.

Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid is a really good movie. The price does seem excessive. I am a fan of Peckinpah, the shorter version was the one that Peckinpah hated, I believe the extended edition in this criterion package is called Final preview cut, thats the better version. Love Warren Beatty and McCabe and Mrs Miller! If yall were into Nashville, then youll definitely be into McCabe and Mrs Miller. I think Bonnie and Clyde is an amazing movie. Also, check out The Parallax View directed by Alan Pakula for another Beatty flick, its on criterion. Pakula directed Klute and All the Presidents Men. Nice selections!

A homerun with McCabe & Mrs. Miller. I agree, Bernie is a fabulous, intelligent dark comedy, Criterion worthy imo. Been collecting Criterions for about 3 years now, up to a few dozen, most were bought after first having screened on The Criterion Channel. Two of my favorites in collection, top 5, are IL Sorpasso, and The Great Beauty, don't hear those two talked about much, check them out maybe. IL Sorpasso maybe the greatest "road trip" movie ever, great back story, supplements. The Great Beauty probably my all time favorite Criterion, and top 10 all time I love it that much; it won several awards for best picture, etc., even won an Academy award for best foreign film, Golden Globe same honor, many others.
