Todd finally gets what this Knuckle likes to star easily. Please go here for link to over 100 pictures on flickr of this fine machine www.flickr.com/photos/34150794...
You are spot on about how every old bike has a different starting procedure. When buying an old Harley, have the owner start it cold and pay attention. It'll save a lot of time and kicking trying to figure it out yourself.
This is the perfect image of the bike Id always dreamt of building. Ive already got a handful of assorted projects crying out for attention though. Maybe someday if I live to be 105! Nice to see someone create such a tasteful, nicely thought out piece of machinery that Id be proud to say Id built.
Your videos are off the chart cool man! The bike you show are amazeing and such a joy for the harley enthusiast. Great job, great work love your passion brother keep these videos coming.
Got to say I've really enjoyed the videos. I've been working and building shovelheads just got my first panhead to bring back to life thanks for all the great info. Been really helpful
Thank you for an amusing interesting Vid !. I had never heard a knucklehead engine run. Seen pictures of them but never heard one run. Attractive bike with a beautiful engine. Cheers..
Hey it's a 1940! I'm surprised it still exists, at all. I never had a motorcycle, or license, but I love these kinds of Choppers/Bobbers, or whatever they're called. Very cool.
in '64, dude in my neighborhood had knucklehead chop & use to get 5-6 kids to push it to pop start. After 60minutes they were panting like dogs on a hot summer day lol
Hey Todd, been awhile, looks great but like you said, not a ninja, lol... I still have my 75 and who knows, maybe someday after watching your vids I might figure it out enough to make it run right? I'm hardly green around the ears but this is my first shovel, thankfully I have my "carburetor'd" 2005 for those moments I need for sweetums!
That is the love-hate relationship right there. Nothing feels better than when you finally fire that. The suck part is you have to find jeans that are one size bigger in the right leg. Sick bike though. Love to have it..
So, does that clutch work like a car? Just let it out and she goes? Is the trans the same as a regular knuckle? Just move it forward and back? What's the difference between "jockey shift" and a regular tank shift harley? Do you have to have it in neutral when you come to a stop? Confused...
trans is the same, clutch feel is somewhat similar to a car, jockey shift has a lever that goes up and down, a stock tank shift has the shifter mounted on the tank, how the clutch works on a tank shift varies. It is easier to have in neutral when you stop, not mandatory
Just like my old shovel .had it rebuilt and Had a hell of time kicking it... But dang! When it was broken in after maybe 1000 mi. I said to myself .. I was wrong thinking that old cat ripped me off... You gots to know what gets her going .just like your woman. its a harley man! 15 years later she's still purring
Beautiful bike, man; I'm just getting started on trying to build one, I'm not green to ridin' but I'm green on Harley's. Can I ask the details of the bike? Like rake, stretch, fork (4, 6, over, etc.)
i'm sorry if I got this wrong but did you say that bike can't run at 60 65 mph? Is that something to do with the oil pressure? I remember in a different video you mentioned back in the day you couldn't cruise 70 with a knuckle. That was the nice thing about a shovel. I know very little about vintage bikes so excuse my dumbedness.
You have to modify the oil system and build one hell of a good motor to make these reliable for a steady cruising speed of 70. They were never intended to do that
when I turned off the camera, that is the 1st thing I checked. It was starved for gas. The way a bike starts has everything to do with who tuned it. Larry Suttle built this machine. This one, with the tuning it has, turned out to like starting with the choke open only one click. Also had to ride it with the choke on until really warm. Not the best tune up.
The fact someone put a Panhead top end onto a sportster lower end does not make the driving of one much different from any other. Either you have foot shifter or hand shift, with either a foot clutch or hand clutch. If you know how to ride, it is not a big deal either way
HuntingHarleys Gotcha. I saw some seagulls then I saw one of the plates and put two into together. You guys doing outstanding job. Just need you on the East Coast ha ha
I have two Knuckle motors for sale, both rebuilt 1947 $12,000 Pix www.flickr.com/photos/34150794@N04/sets/72157641738184393/ Video ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-0tFmwkiwcZc.html 1938 $15,000 Pix www.flickr.com/photos/34150794@N04/sets/72157641787958783/ Video ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-0tFmwkiwcZc.html Todd 661 904 8512
I only have two motor's for sale, both Knucklehead's. Motor's of any type are very hard to come by. I've not had any Panhead motor's for sale for over 20 years now.
whatever frame we get the bike with. If I had to buy all the parts and sell like that, the cost would be over 50K because parts are so expensive. So far, bobber's are not worth that much for which I am greatful
What kind of handel bars on the 1949 el .ive got an 80 model lowrider im wanting to bob it out starting with frame wanting hard tail what type of frame would be good fora 6 3 man long legs and arms
Why I didn't buy but wanted so bad an immaculate Duo-glide pan. Gamey right leg and kickers just don't mix. My first drive out on a Harley in my teens was a 47 knuck. It was all over after that. It was true love. That's a picture perfect example of what a knuck bobber should be. Less is more.
They are hard as hell to start on a cold morning, they leak oil, every nut and bolt will vibrate loose over time, thing just craps at the worst time and still old Harleys are the best.
Did you check to see if it's getting a spark? ... Maybe the key is not on....It could be out of gas. You may proceed to tell me what you think of this comment...lol Nice bike!
It is called 1st taking it to Larry Suttle for a built the bike, who promptly pretending to tune it up and rebuild the carb (not to mention nuts and bolts were missing or loose and te bike had TONS of issues) and charge me money for work not done properly. I then took it to another mechanic who did the work correctly and the bike started and ran fine. There is another video of that here on the tube. Hunting Harley's, 1940 Knuckle bobber revisited
