Old timers around here who still use it call it the rock and roll clutch! You'd love the bikes some of the old fellers have around here, and yes they run everyday, and no, they won't sell'em lol. Fine machine there!
Thanks for sharing your knowledge with us!!, the average biker may never get to learn all of this history, the way bikes were built, modified, tuned back in the day, just proves they got it right , most of us today, wouldnt even know where to start!., the mechanical knowledge , even basic tuning, and fabrication skills, poeple today could learn so much from ....
D A M N!!!! That is nice! I've never ridden a rigid and don't know if i could handle it but would definitely like to have that old Knuckle. Btw. Would like to know more about that two barrel carb and manifold setup. Like where and if they are still available, what all engines will it fit on, (shovel?) and so forth. very similar. Assuming the clutch is set up "stock" you heal it back to release and toe it forward to engage. This operational set up is why many old timers call this a heal toe clutch
thanks! I'm sure every "area" of people developed their own slang of what to call many types of Harley items. Some slang terms and come into their own and are instantly recognizable anywhere. te term Knuckehead is a good example. Harley never called them this, they called them the OHV for Overhead Valve.
this is really pretty. it's is the style i rode in san diego in the 70's. mine was a 45 flathead with the same look.. even the tank. one thing that is funny i used schwinn handlebar necks stuck down in the springer instead of dogbones to hold the drag bars. a friend of mine bought this bike from me and he still has it in arizona.. same setup....

everyone has their own starting technique. For some body types / heights, on certain bikes, that is the only way that particular person an start that particular machine. I've owned many, but one bike, one time, that was the only way I could start it, just like this. The angle was all wrong for me to start any other way.
@ JSVyolence and deckerhand12; some people use a woman to masturbate when they have sex. others make love to them. Old American bikes are like this, they want and need to be loved. Some people cannot understand or relate. Perfect, leaves more old bikes to me and the others who want to love them
I'll be thinking about themaxrider this summer when I'm riding my FXR. I'll be thinking about how much fun I'm having and how pathetic themaxrider is riding his keyboard in his parents basement.
you don't, buy a new one. Antique's are a different matter. They were made in a day when the average person who rode or drove was expected to have basic mechanic skills. new bikes are very reliable and the sad fact is, if they do have a problem, you need a computer to fix it, just like a new car. harley's are expensive. just like buying an expensive car; you cannot expect to fix an expensive car for the same price as one that sold new for 1/5th the price.
check out the video I posted of Brother Speed kicking his magneto pan shovel! That bike has been all over the world, dual throat webber, just a fine machine. He blew a crack through his front cylinder so he's rebuilding that now.

Actually, Japan asked and received the license to make Harley's in the 1930's from Harley Davidson. These are known as Rikuo. Like I said, your obviously very uneducated and ignorant of the facts. Go away and troll somewhere else
You serious? That's no diss to Harley. I own a few and when they need to be repaired, the cost is enormous. We're not all mechanics and a person shouldn't have to possess those skills to enjoy riding motorcycles.
