Your advising to get them from the makers website is very honest in it's reasoning. When I can afford it I'll definitely be buying at least one bow from you, I like your style. Keep up the good work, and greetings from the U.K.

I hunted in Carl Dyers Rendezvous moccasins for years with a wool socks. Top quality and super nice folks. Used to get crazy looks from the South Texas folks while hunting pigs and Javelina worrying about cactus, but I never had a thorn go thru. Can't say the same for my shins. Nothing more eye opening than pulling out a 3/4" thorn that went straight in after about 2-3weeks.

these leather soles work great in some surfaces, and not well in others. They do not work in steep leafy or snowy hillsides, because they have no grip

My dad wore only mocs for years. He was Migmaw from Nova Scotia, he loved deer hunting. He would sometimes wear wool socks over them, he claimed it was quieter. I dunno, maybe.

That's very helpful!!! I ordered some moccasin boots and got the ones with the crepe sole and I hunt on different terrain from rocky to pine flats and mixed forrest. Some of the places I use railroad tracks to travel which has rock. I like the idea of a smaller imprint to moccasins compared to the hiking boots I've been using to hunt in. Awesome information thanks for sharing

I wear them when hiking in cold weather and I find I can move so silently through the woods while wearing them, not to mention so lightweight and comfortable. I must admit I'm a bit envious of Native Americans who wore them every day as regular shoes

I love lightweight hunting shoes or boots. I live in California on the coldest days hunting just adding wool sox fixed my issues. My biggest issue with these mocs would be traction on steep terrain I need a little traction on the sole.

Hey thanks for sharing this great info. Next time you need a pair of hunting mocs you should check out the two button moccasins by San Augustine Trading Co. They lace up from the back so you get a tighter fit around your ankle(especially in the front of the ankle, where the Laurentian high-tops are pretty loose) plus I suspect you’d get less brush and dirt in the shoe as you’re hiking around in the woods. I’d love to know what you think about them. Do a video review if you get a chance!

Great video! I would love to ditch my "waterproof" snakeboots because they are so heavy, hot, and not really waterproof but I hunt in Florida around snakes and hiking through ankle to calf deep water. Do you feel safe without snake boots and do the moccasins handle walking through lots of water repeatedly?

What I like about barefoot stalking is that you make a mental map of what’s in your path , keep your head up with your eyes on your chosen horizon and let your feet act like your hands feeling their way through the woods . Light moccasins keep brush ,sticks , and grass from catching between your toes . Keep your eyes off the ground .

I am making a set for my western hunting and a nice set of camp shoes. I just cant see why stalking with boots is helping other than in really wet situations. The mountians i hunt are loud as can be in boots. Way too much crunchy stuff on the ground to be quiet with stiff soled hiking boots.

Take some cheap suede leather and make a new insole for the mocc. Cushions the feet snd gives you a better shot against any long thorns

I’m considering trying to make a pair since I’ve been doing a bit of leather work lately. Im wondering if the oil tanned bison mentioned is somewhat water resistant already because I assume that apart from the seam around the sole, you don’t put the grease/beeswax mix on there or it would make already slippery leather even more slippery. I’m not sure what leather I’ll use for any part of mine yet. Being in Australia we probably have a few different options, maybe water buffalo instead of bison and maybe even kangaroo for the tops. All I’ve got at home right now is relatively thick veg tanned cowhide and from what I hear, thin and not veg tanned is the way to go for footwear so I may have to wait until I can get some more suitable leather. As always, good video that has really got me thinking about this project.
@huntprimitive9918
@huntprimitive9918 4 года назад
excellent, have fun with your build. I think the oil tan is already more water resistant for sure. I think Roo tops and Buffalo soles would be a good combo
@adamzappia2213
@adamzappia2213 4 года назад
@@huntprimitive9918 Thanks, I've got a few other smaller projects to sort out first and then I'll see what I can do. That does sound like a good combo, though it seems I was wrong and veg tanned cowhide is often used for moccasins so I'll do some thinking and maybe even try out a few material combinations to see what I like best.

@@adamzappia2213 So do I, And it's no easy task considering all the pressure we have to whistand since two years already. I wish you can find a quiete peace minded little place. There isn't much we can do. I just had to sell my house ( I lost a very good job because of my resistance). Now I'm in the process of looking for a big enough and cheap enough RV to hopefully go on a few more months. Anyway, I digress, be safe and always keep hope. We are billions. We can choose to back up or stand our ground. Whatever happens, much is beyond our control so we only can do the best we think. I send you my best vibes! Nice instructional video. In this video you recommend buying down but on their webpage the maker recommends buying up. I wear a size 11-1/2; you suggest I purchase size 11, they recommend I purchase size 12. So confusing ...
@huntprimitive9918
@huntprimitive9918 4 года назад
I think it depends on the specific moccasin being purchased. I would go with the Manufacturers recommendation, but On both styles, I size down because they stretch after use. I actually normally wear a size 10 in a boot, but I order 9's in moccasins and they fit great. I can wear a 9.5 or 10 in a shoe, but not a 9... but with the mocs, 9's are perfect for me

you must be emailing the wrong email or from a spam flagged computer. The email to email HuntPrimitive is twistedlimbs83@yahoo.com and it is the only email given on the website as well. But to save you time anyways, we don't carry any of the moccasins here at HuntPrimitive, they all ship from MoccasinsCanada whether purchased through them or huntprimitive, so exchanges and returns go straight to www.moccasinscanada.com . Sorry for the confusion on the email, but for phone calls, do please leave a message. We are only a family business dealing with a lot of calls per day and most are either folks that want to just sit and chat or solicit, so we only call back those with actual customer left voicemails, that is why we recommend on the website to email twistedlimbs83@yahoo.com reach back out to me or moccasins canada and we will make sure you are taken care of. thanks
