One of the fiercest things that will be a hurdle in our journey towards Ibadah is the Hurdle of Nafs. The Nafs is like your inner child that only cares about immediate pleasure, what pleases you right now, the toddler inside of you. You want to be at a level where you know that you have given in to your Nafs and did evil and want to ask for forgiveness and strive to be better. Strive for the level of Nafs where you can control it, it does whatever you tell it to do, not the other way around. This Nafs is like your riding beast, you need this to take it where you need to go. There are 2 reasons why it’s hard to fight your Nafs: 1. It’s inside you. 2. This is actually the enemy you love. Intellectual Muslims must not be heedless 4 times a day : 1. A moment in the day that you talk quietly to your Lord (Especially before Fajar). 2. A moment in the day where you take yourself to account, what you did, what you didn’t, how did you spend your time. 3. A moment in the day where you go kick it with your boys who are going to tell you about faults, what you are doing wrong, what you are doing right, what you are lacking, and the real truth. 4. A moment in the day that you let yourself indulge in the things you enjoy in a halal way. When you sacrifice your Nafs for the sake of Allah, you’ll automatically leave sins. When you wake up for Qiyamul lail in the middle of the night and nobody knows about this except you, you’ll feel different that day, and even if an opportunity for sin comes you’ll avoid it. You will notice that every single tribulation, trial, hardship, humiliation, and sin comes from your Nafs inside. The Nafs itself is not evil, it’s you that left it unchecked that it’s evil. The world is about freeing the Nafs and we are about freeing ourselves from the Nafs. This Nafs, you can’t kill it, you need it to ride yourself to Jannah. You need it to get you up for Tahajjut. It’s going to be hard, at first, you’ll need to punish it, and slowly it will listen to you. You can’t ever stop loving your Nafs, cause you need it, but you can’t let it destroy you by controlling you. Control your Nafs through Taqwa. 3 things to control your Nafs with: 1. Don’t give it what it wants when it wants it. 2. Don’t give it what it wants, force it to do some difficult act of worship. 3. Ask Allah for help on your Nafs. Dua for pure Nafs: **اللهم آت نفسي تقواها وزكها أنت خير من زكاها أنت وليها ومولاها** Pronunciation: Allahumma ati nafsi taqwaha, wa zakkiha Anta khairu man zakkaha, Anta waliyyuha wa maulaha. Translation: O Allah! Grant me the sense of piety and purify my soul as You are the Best to purify it. You are its Guardian and its Protecting Friend. Taqwa means to put a barrier between your heart and your sins. Taqwa is a consciousness of Allah, consciously aware of Allah. 3 things that are given to the People of Taqwa: 1. Feeling of accomplishment 2. Your actions will become better and complete. 3. Allah will accept it from you. Whoever wants to have Taqwa only has to watch 5 limbs of their body. 1. Your eyes. What you allow your eyes to look at. Your eyes are the gateway to your soul, whatever you let it see, it’ll get straight into your heart. 2. Your ears. What you listen to. 3. Your tongue. What you say. 4. Your heart. You have to watch your heart. 5. Your stomach. Watch your intake. You have to be a conscious consumer of your feed. Believe in yourself. There’s a house for you in Jannah, believe in yourself that you’ll reside there.

45:16 Dua for taqwa: ‎اللهم آت نفسي تقواها وزكها أنت خير من زكاها أنت وليها ومولاها Allahumma ati nafsi taqwaha wa-zakkiha anta khayru man zakkaha anta waliyuha wa-mawlaha. O Allah, give my soul (nafs) its God-fearing righteousness (taqwa) and purify it, for You are the best to purify it. You are its Protector and its Guardian. ~Muslim
