In today’s Quickcast:
Hurricane Beryl was roaring by Jamaica on Wednesday, with islanders scrambling to make preparations after the powerful Category 4 storm killed at least six people and caused significant damage in the southeast Caribbean. When will Hurricane Beryl hit Jamaica?
Beryl was forecast to weaken slightly over the next day or two but still be at or near major hurricane strength when it passes near or over Jamaica on Wednesday, near the Cayman Islands on Thursday and into Mexico's Yucatan Peninsula on Friday, according to the U.S. National Hurricane Center in Miami. A hurricane warning was in effect for Jamaica, Grand Cayman, Little Cayman, Cayman Brac and some of the Yucatan's east coast. A hurricane watch was in effect for other areas on the Yucatan's east coast.
Beryl was expected to bring hurricane-force winds and life-threatening flash flooding to Jamaica, where officials warned residents.
By midday, winds howled in the capital city of Kingston, turning the sea into churning whitecaps as Beryl's eye scraped by the island's southern coast.
Both Miami and Fort Lauderdale's airports were bustling with travelers on Wednesday as the Fourth of July travel period kicked into high gear.
It's the busiest travel day ahead of the holiday weekend.
At Miami International, more than a million passengers are expected during the holiday travel period from Monday, July 1st to Monday, July 8th.
"We highly suggest arriving three hours before your flight," said Miami International Airport Director Ralph Cutie. "Parking is limited starting today,so we encourage passengers to use other methods or other methods of transportation such as Uber, Lyft, taxi public transportation and or family and friends."
Nationwide, 5.74 million people will fly to their July 4th destinations, up nearly 7% compared to last year and 12% more than in 2019, according to AAA.

Ummm 🤔🧐. I would just like to say that the fourth of July also triggers War Veterans. Speaking for myself.

The way people dress to travel is disgusting like they got dressed in the dark or don't care to make the effort to look nice can look nice and be comfortable at the same time. Stupid to travel for July 4th or that other pointless one Thanksgiving . By the time the delays have lifted and get on your flight the day has come and gone , same with travelling on the roads heavy traffic never get to your destination be spending July fourth or Thanksgiving on the road , same with rail travel .
