That rain under the roof at the outdoor kitchen was going in several directions. Crazy the sheets of rain hitting the window . I couldn’t believe you could get a text in those 6 inch walls of wood . I’m like Mr Doug the shelter is a beast for sure .. glad all is ok with you both and the property . Today has been cleanup here with burgers on the grill with several neighbors . All working together .
Dude when I was a kid my dad used to take roofing tar and seal off the damaged spots on a tree. You can also stuff the cavity and then put the roofing tar over the top to keep water from pulling up in there. Do that bit of extra effort and you'll be surprised what your tree can recover from
@@MTNmyMAGnot concrete. The tree will there ever be able to fill in and heal itself. Fill in with sawdust and water or sawdust and a minimal tacky glue which will break down eventually. Trees can really fill in if you give them protection and time.
"@Storx-USMC- 11 hours ago I would not count your tree out yet. As a fellow Floridian who had a live oak split in our front yard from Irma.. I used a handful of cans of spectracide pruning seal on the massive 2 foot exposed section and the tree lived just fine. It kept the area from loosing moisture and rotting out. The tree curled around the edges of the sprayed area and healed itself overtime. 14 Reply The Kelley's Country Life · 1 reply @TKCL 11 hours ago I just ordered several cans of that exact spray. 6"
Just a suggestion, I live in South Florida and when a big oak tree went down and split like yours I've seen people put some type of pliable concrete I don't know what it was they put it in the cavity of the tree and it's been 5 years now and the tree is still living just a suggestion you may want to look into

Praise the Lord for He's good, hallelujah! I will never tease you again for overdoing and overbuilding everything! I am astonished how little water you got on your new property, was sure you'd need a boat to get there. Sad for the oak, but considering all the circumstances..
I was hoping and praying you would be safe. As for your oaks are concerned something that has worked for us (albeit on smaller trees) is pruning spray but due to the size of yours maybe try some sort of epoxy to seal the “wounds” to prevent rot and hopefully save the rest of your beautiful trees. Glad your are safe and have minimal damage of what could have been.
3 Hurricanes in 12 months that's hard to swallow but everyone is safe that's the #1 thing. About the oak tree a few days of dry and I believe you can coat the opening with some layers of water proof liquid and after a few dry coatings fill the cavity with wax so there's no standing water, I have some friends in blountstown been reaching out to them and getting no response probably going to take a trip here soon.
Faith and the awesomeness of prayers.!!!! Don't be scared be prepared and making good decisions, will see you through to the other side. God is good. But we must keep those less fortunate in our prayers.!!!!!
Thankful that you guys were protected. As for your trees, we painted the inside, filled ours and sealed it and the tree lived no problem. You may want to try it.

Before you take the tree down if that's what you plan on doing, use spray foam in the cavity so it don't fill up with rain. Saw it done on another channel and it saved the tree. Just a thought
Hello Andrew? I am so glad to hear that everyone in your family is extremely safe from this storm man God bless 🙌 you all family & friends . I am so sorry to hear about your mom & dad house Damage but they are here & That's what counts . I am so sorry to hear & see the family tree damage on your Property man . My wife is down there working , my oldest brother is a Insurance Adjuster & he job is down there looking at people house to see how much damage is done to there homes & i should be down there too but i got Second degree sunburn right now again that's is not doing well at all & i had to stay home because I can't drive barefooted 👣 because i got Blisters all over my feet 🦶 & my feet 🦶 are still extremely extremely RED & it still hurts to push down the pedal but i got all 5 of my Truck 🚛 down there now with out me . You take care buddy & again i am so glad that you & your whole entire family are safe from this storm man .
Ouch! Sunburn is very painful. Burns to the tops of feet are the worst and can be debilitating until it heals. the best thing you can do for them, is take care of you and get better. Your people completely understand, plus you can lend great support to them from where you are! Thank you for how much you are already doing to help!
@@kevin65700 Thanks you so much Kevin I really appreciate that . & you are right man it's very very extremely painful especially for me because I am a big dude 6'3 385Ibs sz15 6E wide feet 🦶 ( which is very very extremely wide feet 🦶 ) with very very chubby fat wide toes that are Evenly straight across making my foot very very Extremely wide at 6 1/2 inches wide from my big toe to my lil toe . I hope & pray 🙏 that you & your family are doing ok from this storm man . I am praying 🙏 for everyone in Florida right now .
Glad you guys are safe and had relatively minor damage. Hope your great oak can rebound. Not sure if there is anything you can do to plug that hole up. This hurricane has been complete devastation to many cities all over the south. Heartbreaking to see so many lives impacted in its wake.
Hello Andrew and Tiffany. So many people were praying for you with the hurricane coming your way. Thank you for sharing the hurricane footage with us and for letting us know you two, your animals and your house are okay. So sorry about that beautiful majestic oak. I'll be watching for the land clean up videos.
Wowser... Andrew and Tiff... that was a heck of a storm!!! I was really worried that you guys were going to get so much more damage, but I also knew that Andrew wayyyyy overbuilt everything!!! I had faith in that storm shelter as well. That build series is definitely one to watch! Hate to see that the one major loss was that beautiful oak, but I'm thinking that you may be able to salvage some of it. Thanks for the update, stay safe and dry guys!!! 🎉❤
There is no hurricane that could touch that shelter. I remember how rock solid that was built. If the storm couldn't be avoided, at least is was a fast mover. That was the big factor. Had it been moving at say 5 mph, there would be much more damage. God bless ya'll.
I was so scared for you guys. I, too, thought your buildings and home were toast. I also appreciate the update on your parents as I was so concerned about them. A while back, we had a big gust of wind that took our 24-foot-long carport and blew it a couple of hundred feet into a ball. luckily, we got that cut up and hauled away. That wasn't even a storm, just a very strong wind gust. I don't think we'd have come out as luckily as you did had it hit us here in Texas.
So glad to see that ya'll made it throught the storm safely. It is sad to see the mighty oak suffer the damage from the storm, but I agree at the end of the day it is just a tree. we just got a lot of tree debris and limbs down here in pasco county.
Hey, One issue is the doors. You need to put barriers in far enough in front of the doors to protect against debris being thrown up against the doors and you can't get out. Usually they do like a 30-inch poured concrete reinforced wall in front of the door. It like people get whole house generators and don't put them in a vent reforced house. Seen those get trashed by rolling pickup in high winds.
Oh My Days that sideways driving rain and wind was terrible, so thankful y'all are in as good a shape as you are! As many have mentioned, there's topical products to seal that oak up and it will be OK
Glad you made out ok! I see people taking advantage of your down time to give spammy reviews on your FB page. Found the playlist for the build of the shelter, will be binging it today (I first came to your channel during the ice maker series)
So glad y’all are relatively whole. Truly a blessing for sure. Guess no one can criticize you for “overbuilding” anymore. Agree with you “God is good”!
I was so happy to see this post I was definitely concerned about you both. I am super happy to see that sustained minimal damage for a storm of that caliber.
That is a great storm shelter!! Glad you are safe but sorry for the loss of the beautiful tree. If it has to come down, maybe you can make a special item from the wood, like a bench, etc.
Let a neighbor or a friend know to check on you after just in case large debris or other objects trap you inside or make it difficult to get out of your shelter.
How is it anchored to the ground? You should absolutely have 2-way radio gear / flashlights and lithium iron phosphate batteries dedicated to the radio.
@@TKCL Apparently, it’s well engineered and constructed! Great job keeping the family safe. Quick thought from a shelter I installed radio equipment in… Add inexpensive exterior mounted colored strobe light modules (approx $10-15@) that operate on 12vdc. They also provided an exterior rated fire horn devices. Add an internal “HUB-2 Station” (Amseco locking hold up station) OR a Fire Alarm Pull Station customized with different colors and lettering. The shelter had blue exterior strobe lights and a blue colored pull station inside. If the shelter inhabitants are in need of special assistance or cannot be located or has tipped over, etc… They can pull the station, activating the strobes and sounder outside. This can assist rescuers or ANYONE walking in the area. (Powered by separate 12v 7ah standby AGM battery mounted in an internal enclosure.
Glad to see yall are ok. Im n baker county fl jus got our road opened this afternoon still no power though.. but i have the same generator as u and it is loud! But glad to have it! What size is that storm shelter? I may need to build one myself!
Very glad you guys are okay and the safe room is impressive. My only concern is do you have a plan if something was to blow in front of the door preventing it from being opened? Or would you be able to crawl out the ac hole?
I’m so glad you guys are safe:) For how bad is was you are truly blessed:) It’s heartbreaking to see the damage in the other areas and the number of lives that were lost:( Tfs and God bless.
Sad to see that oak got damaged, but looks like overall it's good news. Maybe you can put some kind of protective cover on the oak to keep it from filling up with water. Or paint some kind of sealant over the wound.
The shelter is a beast. Can you use spray foam to fill the oak void the seal the opening with pruning tar or something for the oak? Like you said those are lifetime trees. Just a thought. Glad yall came through relatively good considering that hurricane! Hope insurance takes care of your folks.
Glad ya'll made it through okay! Up here in Nashville we have the remnants of the storm parked over us for 2 days.No complaints here,we needed the rain. You are a smart guy keep on fighting the good fight!
Glad you guys are ok. When I saw that Helene was heading into your area was very concerned. Pray for the individuals that did not come through this so well. God bless you and your family.
So glad to see you fared so well. Just an idea for your Oak Tree. What about filling the cavity with concrete, bondo or something like that. There has to be something that can be used to fill that hole and that the tree might be able to heal over. Like I said, just an idea.
So glad to see you guy's, and with minimal damage. Hate it about your tree. I guess maybe you have heard how devastated the NC mountains are. Take care.
This is going to sound like hocus pocus but look into air layering your oak before you decide to cut it down. You van save that exact tree to replant in its place. No its not the same as having the 100+ year old tree but its your tree when you replant it.
All the things that you did along the way when you were building the house that you said was probably overkill, this is why Andrew. Glad you guys are okay.
so happy for both of you and so glad you are a very smart young man to prepare like you have and to share the knowledge with all of us . thank you both
I am so happy you all are ok! I was thinking about y'all all night as I watched the storm go right over your area. I always asked about the Oak after each storm, so I was very sad to see the 'icon' damaged so badly. Glad everything else held up so well, says a lot about your builds! I was wondering how the river property would fare too. Relieved it was high & dry after all that rain. AND... happy your parents are safe.
Don't give up on that tree! I guarantee that "you" can figure out a way to try and save it. Drill holes at the bottom or something etc etc. You'll figure out something, you usually do!
Now here's a man who knows the wisdom of building with wood because wood is resilient whereas concrete will crack shatter crumble when it's breaking point is reached.
WOW that was an awesome video! Such preparedness and your overbuilding are totally impressive👍 I can't even imagine what the chickens thought LOL. So glad the new property survived well also. Hope the insurance comes though for your folks' issues. It seems that the eastern outlying bands caused more damage than the eye of the storm. I'm so happy for you both, but still saying prayers for all affected and especially the loss of loved ones across the affected states. You kids are definitely blessed!
So glad you are safe and minor damage. Our house in Valdosta got hit with a giant pine right down the middle. My kids and wife were in the hall and I was looking out the window from the master bedroom when it got really bad And the tree came down. Came through the house and the roof and hit me and knocked me on the floor and I’m all black and blue. I Spent the next morning in the hospital. Kids and wife are all safe. But if our walls hadn’t stopped the fall of the tree from coming all the way down it would have crushed some of my family. I will NEVER stay in a house again through a named storm. If I and my family don’t have a legit storm shelter like you to go to, then we will just leave before the storm hits.
I just got in from pushing trees and opening up roads and driveways. So glad to see you both ok. We were hit hard in Upstate SC also. Going to be weeks for some to get power back. Asheville in NC is in a mess also. I-40 going over the mountain will take a long time to open. Horrible storm. Praying for all. Awesome job preparing buddy.
Your video was great to see all the protective steps you took to stay safe in this hurricane. Very well thought out and prepared for the worst. Thankful you and Tiffany are safe and your dogs.
I was so worried about you guys! Glad you guys are safe and have minimal damage! Down here in Saint Petersburg, my house is fine. We didn’t have much, but my grandma‘s house due to storm surge had at least a foot of water throughout her home so I am doing cleanup as much as I can and filing insurance for her and trying to find companies to deal with everything else.
I am watching storm videos and this one came across my feed...i dont know yoi guys but I have to say your wife looks like the queen of calm. She is just beautiful in this video. I would be terrified so Im going to watch this whole thing...
