Our 341 Meridian Sport Bridge, Happy Ours was just returned to the water after a month long stay in a neighbors yard where it blew ashore in the 150mph winds of Hurricane Ian in Cape Coral Florida. Thanks to the work of TowBoat US and the rigging and crane crews, she was returned to the water and miraculously did not sink. In this episode, follow along as we
survey the damages of this boat salvage and try to fire up the engines for the first time since the hurricane.

Awesome that everything still works as well as it does. How do you/they explain such minimal damage to props/shafts/rudders after so much punishment during the storm; scraping over walls and pilings and then sitting on the lawn like that?? I know you're looking forward to cruising around again but be careful of sunken boats and submerged debris and shifted channel markers etc!! Keep up the good work and videos.
@AdventuresofHappyOurs
@AdventuresofHappyOurs Год назад
I’ll mark it up to slowly settling in the soft muddy grass after the tides went out. The boat also has a keep and tunnel drive that partially protects the running gear.
@carsnboats5901
@carsnboats5901 Год назад
@@AdventuresofHappyOurs Ahhh- I think tunnels and keels are helpful. I dont have them. I have a similar age Egg Harbor 37, so I was interested to see some of your equipment is similar to mine- PSS shaft seals and NorthStar electronics. I'm still using my NorthStar 9000- simple and reliable but I also use the Navionics App. I think the Navionics on phone is really good. I saw your video where you went by that (because it was closer to actual navaids) and not the New Garmin. Very interesting.

Thanks for following along! I had to change out my north star gps as it wouldn’t power up. Replacing the autopilot is on the wish list.

Probably got super lucky and HO broke free during the highest portion of the surge, winds pushed it against the neighbors house, and kept it there as the tides dropped, so it never touched anything other than water and soft soggy ground. Thankfully!

You should short haul it and put a run out gauge on both shafts. Pull both props and have them reconditioned too. Its almost guaranteed that you have some damage. Not worth the risk to the transmissions, shaft seals and cutlass bearings to ignore a close inspection.
@AdventuresofHappyOurs
@AdventuresofHappyOurs Год назад
That’s the plan. I’m had to do work anyway but will need to wait for mechanics availability

Do you have a tight cover up of the instrument panel. It looks like alot of expensive stuff up there to not get wet. Maybe a tarp, till you buy a new cover for the top covering your instrument panel. Unless you have one.

Help us understand why you just left the boat and didn’t do anything to protect it from the hurricane
@AdventuresofHappyOurs
@AdventuresofHappyOurs Год назад
I did a lot to protect it from the hurricane. Extra lines, fenders, took all canvass down, put out bow and stern anchors in addition to all the extra lines. There is only so much you can do to prepare and no one expected a direct hit of nearly cat5 hurricane with unprecedented storm surge never before seen in this area.
@ChadReynoldsGarage
@ChadReynoldsGarage Год назад
@@AdventuresofHappyOurs Was leaving in the boat not an option? Or did you just not expect it to hit you since the projections had it going further north? It's so awesome that it doesn't have any major damage.
@AdventuresofHappyOurs
@AdventuresofHappyOurs Год назад
It was projected to go further north and never in history has the storm surge reached that level in Cape Coral.
@Pyle81
@Pyle81 Год назад
Steve, You APPARENTLY didn't watch his video that showed what he did to try and keep the boat safe during this hurricane. Apparently you've never been threw a storm of this magnitude. Because NO matter what you do, There's a risk that it won't work. Ask the ppl that had there boats out of the water and in dry storage. And part of the building collapsed that they where stored in. But I'm sure you'll have some smart ass answers, Because you obviously know it all.
