As hurricane Ian was approaching Cape Coral Florida, the forecast went from bad to worse. I had originally planned to ride out the storm at home. I estimated that the house would start flooding with 7’ of storm surge water. The initial estimates were 6-12 feet surges. After consulting with many long term residents, no one in my neighborhood remembers any water ever reaching houses in this area of SW Cape Coral. But when the weathermen started to claim up to 16’ surges, I was concerned. I expected the house would flood with 4 feet of water or more and I didn’t want to also lose the car to flooding. So Matey and I packed up the car with supplies and evacuated to higher ground. Follow along as we return to our home and see the damage and destruction as we witnessed it.
