In this video we prep for Hurricane Idelia. Rob mounts the radar dome and installs our Garmin Quantum 2 radar. Shannon replaces the pfifertex sun shades to give us more protection from the sun. Traumatic day with the worst storm yet and Davis mourns the loss of his prized possession.
Follow our families journey as we plan to Circumnavigate the Globe in 3-4 years on a budget of $4,300/mo. We plan to leave the US in October 2023 and visit 26 countries and 6 continents.

Tip from a former electrician assistant. Always run a piece of string along with any cable in case you later wish to add another cable or wire again.

I would love it if you pass this on to Davis. The lesson is hard, but… also this week I had been thinking how fortunate I was when strangers were nice to me.

This is Davis saying thank you sooo much for the donation. I am hoping to save enough money to buy another RC car soon! Thank you very much for your kindness!!

Hang in there ! Embrace this the good and bad but when it’s bad grab him and give him a hug and keep going. That’s what me and my wife do. When it’s bad get closer. Love your adventure and videos !

Thank you for bringing us along on your journey. We're enjoying your videos. It's good to show the realistic side of cruising. Boat work, boat work, boat work. But at least the sceney is beautiful. Maybe we'll see you out on the water some day.

I'm documenting this to show how difficult the transition to boat life can be for kids this age that grew up in traditional suburban neighborhoods and in traditional schools their entire life. It's a totally different environment for them. He's coming along but we still have our struggles.

Loved this episode for a number of reasons. Your drive to keep going while you’re in the “ duldrums of refit” is exactly what you should do.. go go go. Too bad on the lost RC car. Good lesson learned though
@SailingParadiseFalls

Thank you very much! I really underestimated the frustration and stress of the refit. We are finally on the other side and slept peacefully on anchor while waiting weather to begin our adventure!

Great job guys. Everything is a learning/life experience. At some point you’ll get everything dialed in and you guys will be the ones teaching others. One inexpensive project that you might tackle at some point is waxing the outside of your windows so they’re not only protected but so the water beads up and runs off so you can see out better in a rain storm. I use both (303 Graphene) & (Turtle Wax Ice) on my boat and cars, I’ve found both do a great job and it’s cheap.
@SailingParadiseFalls
@SailingParadiseFalls 11 месяцев назад
That’s a great tip - thanks! I actually want to sand the windows because lots of swirl marks in them and then wax them. We have definitely learned a lot!!! Thanks for watching!!

Wow wee Texas tee!! You are so lucky to have be in a Marina hey? Great practice for you all and better that having to to find shelter in the vastness of the ocean. You and Rob have done very well, given that you have had previous experiences. A hurricane or cyclone is never encouraging to any one on the water but watching you guys was great!! Take care and hopefully not long till you throw your mooring lines for good. Safe travels

I forgot to mention last week... love the new intro! Music is spot on! Glad you survived the hurricane. I know there is a several week delay with the videos being released and that is fine, but by now you must be sailing south to the Carribean...? Hope all is going smoothly! Enjoy the experience😊!

Guess it’s good to go through first hurricane prep at basically home base. Hopefully you can avoid them on world travels, but you now have some storm experience. Boat projects just sometimes take a bit of time. All looking good! Donate for a Dream.

I’m enjoying watching your journey so far, I was a little shocked by your hurricane preparation if I’m honest, cushions, covers and plants still outside didn’t make sense to me, but as you said, lessons learned. Gutted about the loss of the RC car too 😔

It was an early storm that was not supposed to affect us. It turned at the last minute and came all the way over from the pan handle to say hello! We had seen worse weather in St Augustine. 60 knot winds almost every afternoon for a couple of weeks.

Your channel is so real, and can just imagine the behind the scenes crazy you are dealing with much less the arguments. please take time for you and your marriage. I'm praying for you guys to have easier time w setting up the boat. Though I appreciate knowing what you are dealing with as I am at the dreaming stage of boat ownership.. 1st phase? Check!

The plan starts somewhere! The boat is finally ready (as ready as we can be) and hopefully will sail tomorrow to the Bahamas. We have all learned a ton and are getting into our new normal routines. It’s a much more difficult adjustment than I had thought but nothing we can’t overcome! Thanks for taking the time to comment and offer your encouragement (from a local:)

Happy to see you and the boat survived the storm. Aside from the cushion and RC car, you came out great. Any changes to your hurricane plan as a result of this experience?? Congrats on getting rear dome installed- especially after the river gun breaking so many times.

I don’t know that we would do anything differently if we were in a hurricane again. The RC car and helm seat were from a different pop up Fl storm. The radar install was a challenge but Rob got it completed. Work is complete at Just Cats and hopefully, we will be headed to the Bahamas tomorrow!!! Thanks for watching!!
