That is my Leopard 40 “Kavalea”! She was lifted out of the mangroves on 11/4 and while she has some scrapes, scratches, and bruises she is in remarkable shape. We lived on our boat in Snook Bight Marina until Ian demolished our beautiful island. When she was placed back in the water we did a full assessment of her systems and then she started right up. Two days later we motored 8 hours to our new marina near Naples. We are now getting ready to put her in a yard in Ft Lauderdale for fiberglass and gel coat repairs.
I feel like you would be the person I would want helping in this situation. Always bringing a Positive attitude, know how, and problem solving skills to the table.
No. This is a guy who would f...k you in the ass when you're not looking. You'd be pulling up the anchor or something and BANG He'd be all greased up and ready to go and you'd have no say in the matter
Yes, Sam, you have such a kind soul and are a blessing to help put your g’ma’s house back together after this devastating hurricane Ian. Love watching you work your magic with the solar hookups and building your sailing foils. Amazing! Let your adventures continue!!!😂❤
This is the first video that really clued me in to the extent of all the destruction. Thanks for taking the time to document it. Also, the briefcase is mine. It must of fallen off my yacht that got stuck in the mangroves.
Just to add a little more context, I am about 40 miles up river from Fort Myers Beach, the Caloosahatchee river, and my dock was about 6 feet under water for a couple days after the storm. Our elevation here is about 43 feet above sea level. I believe Sam has navigated this water way that connects the West Coast of Florida to the East Coast of Florida.
@@timmitchell8784 Seems like he was working pretty hard helping his family. You seem pretty salty. I am not sure if you have ever done any work like this before, but it’s pretty hard work and endless.
@@mtadams2009 I agree Scott and those solar panels weren’t cheap I bet !!! And pulling wet drywall had to have been a heavy, smelly job. He was first focused on his grandmother and that is why he went there !! Did they not see for several days he worked very hard ? Everyone is helping in their own way !!!!! And those comments aren’t needed especially now !!!
Crazy being in Northern California I know fires are going to happen every year but we still build and live life like yall, hurricane damage is wild, rock on east coast
Another cool segment of Sam Holmes "Renovations". Oh my that was some crazy damage. Great job cleaning up your grandmother's house. Congratulations on 200K subscribers. Thanks for sharing!
Saw the devastation in FMB last week while driving around. Thanks for showing us a glimpse into the damage beyond the main road. Your mom’s a hard worker just like you.
Just a simple thank you for being out there and telling your story. You do it in a simple way that is entertaining and informative. I hope your gram’s all set up now and I am looking forward to seeing your winter adventures.
My 88 yrold dad lives over in Leigh High Acres and weathered out the storm in his home (as he always has). He did not have much damage as most of the trees he had to cut down after the last hurricane. I appreciate seeing the raw unvarnished nature of your surveying the scene. Love your channel, you are a lucky dude.
Sam, 😆Off roading in the Prius!!! Seriously, I had no idea of the scope of the destruction until your vlog.. Holy cow!!! My prayers to the people, business and communities torn asunder by Ian. That poor "Capt. Tony"!!!
Awesome help you have been for your Grandmother’s home… Nice to see you put that briefcase out there for those who may have lost it… Honesty is hard to find these days…
Having grown up on the pan handle, I have seen a few hurricane zones of destruction. This one was bad. Glad no casualties in your family and the house does not look bad at all compared to the total destruction of the area. So glad you were able to help your family. Family counts when all else fails. A follow up video in a few months would be nice, both of the house and the area. Good luck with the recovery.
Really enjoy your content Sam, particularly the Atlantic crossing.. As a FM native, is sobering to see the damage wrought from this storm. If you ever need a hand in Fort Myers at grandma's house. Give a holler.
Wow. this is jaw-dropping footage of the devastation probably some of the most in-depth coverage of the aftermath on RU-vid. Best of luck with the house repairs
I lived in Sarasota for a while, so I know the area a bit. Your video really showed more than any "news" outlet. Thanks and best wishes to your grandmother.
Great video Sam. I grew up in Naples and there really hasn't been much since Donna in 1960. This one was really terrible. We had just move to Lauderdale when it hit. We closed on a boat the week of the second one. Really bummed I missed you at the show. I was there With David and Mary Shih and was hoping to say hi. Thanks again. Franny
I was there last week, the devastation is beyond anything I have ever seen and could not imagine how anyone rode that storm out. I was in Cape Canaveral for Nicole in my truck camper and that was pretty intense and it was a cat 1 I couldn't imagine a 4/5
Hey Sam, I love watching your adventures wherever you may be. It's with a heavy heart I see what's happened in Fort Myers. I hope you can all get it cleaned up as soon as possible. Best wishes for the holidays.
You have done an incredible amount of work and I’m glad to see your have fun no matter what. You’re just the man to have around in such massive emergencies. Your mother is no slouch either. Love her shelves.
It's amazing to me the barren minded people and media that let things like that happen , your mom has the best son in the world, I remodeled homes in my younger days I know how hard that work is , bless you and Ma!

I've watched you keep your cool in some pretty tense and terrifying situations, so I'm not a bit surprised by your nonchalant reaction to a briefcase full of money. 🤣 Thank you for the footage.
This video just came up in my feed. Just wow with the reality of all the destruction!! Thank you for sharing!! Was this filmed immediately right after Ian or is this more recent video footage?
You found my briefcase! I've been looking everywhere for it! All that damage is horrible to see. Your family is lucky to have you around to help with the repairs.
Not easy. I was on FL Keys for Irma on 2017. Kinda reminded me on how awfull and destructive it can be. Glad family is ok. And the lady that built the shelves she's a tough lady. Thanks for sharing.
Being a past marina manager at some of the FMB marinas, people would always ask," what happens if the water got so high the docks floated away?" My answer was, " If that ever happened, we got bigger things to worry about" Well, I got my answer. Also, I was surprised there were not more boats up Hell Peckney Bay. Great video on showing what mid island looks like.
Oh no there's boats everywhere all over. A lot of them crushed into what was Salty Sams and against Olson's. Most things went north north east from the blow.
I hope you get all the success and all the free stuff! As someone who wants one of those systems, it makes me super happy to see you get them and them come in handy
Wow, not good at Fort Myer, good you and mom are helping out. All work no play so Sam makes a new water toy, love it! That crane truck is so efficient. Hey Sam, on your Boat ride that hat of yours is really good cover, and looks snappy, what sort is it, any chance of a link? Fare well!
@@SunshineSailing84 I guess it wouldn't stop the wind damage. I've been to Fort Myers and they definitely have Sea Defenses but I remember someone there telling me that it's very hard to protect Florida in general due to the whole place being so low. Due to the size of the hurricane, it probably overwhelmed the defenses anyway.
I’ll be down there in Estero in less than a week. This was the best video for showing the extent of damage I’ve seen. Sam, you’re attitude is great. You just jumped in and began to fix things. Had to laugh when you said “satisfaction like picking you’re nose”. You’re something else guy. PS. And you’re mom making that shelf, wow good job.
The juxtaposition of a show-full of luxury boats in Ft. Lauderdale and the destruction in Ft. Myers is jarring. But for a turn of the wind, those two scenes could have easily switched places. And what did you do with that briefcase full of cash??? In any event, keep smiling Sam!
A big difference from Europe Sam. Until seeing this, like all tragedy, once out of the news, you forget about it and focus on the next horror shows of nature. To see you back in the U.S. is like you never left, but to see what you went into is biohazard and apocalyptic type destruction. The fact that the house is saveable is amazing, and there you were, moving on and doing glass work on boards...lol....Take care, and hopefully the rebuild will go well.....
this is the crazy fort myers after math video we all wanted to see seeing it up close and personal really let's you understand the extent of the damage also.... CARS IN THE RIVER! intense stuff!
First time I saw the destruction up close . Just wondering how much the insurance ,that is if you can find insurance . The roll of dice of another hurricane . At least you know how high the water level can go up . Maybe a couple of container on stilts and a Geo-Dome could work . The real marvel is the house is still standing . Thanks Sam .
I have been thru that recently with hurricane IDA that hit Louisiana. My house and community on the coast had 150 mph winds. But my section was protected with levees and didn't get the water. It's the only reason I still have a house. People will rebuild and get past this storm damage. But the scares will remain.
Let's spend the many on a creation of a maker space next to wind turbine grave yard. So maker space is orientated on reusing composite parts from wind turbine blades. Building boats like proas and giving them to community who wont's to be a fisherman. Or delivery person and fisherman.
So sorry about your Grandma's house. I live in central Florida, and we got hit but our power didn't even go out (can you believe that!?) We were sooo lucky!
I used to rent a house on Palmetto just a few blocks from there. My beach access was Dakota, near the Sandpiper. My girls' busstop for Beach Elementary was the blue carwash just south of there which is completely gone! Crazy to see all the damage. I moved away in 2014. I lived on Mango St at that time and really sad to see Heavenly Biscuit just gone :(
It is a very real look from the inside, something that is usually impossible to see, we only get the news. This is an eye opener. have never seen anything like this before. I have been in a flood but nothing like this.
Now that is a new twist on washed money. May its owner be reunited with it. I'm imagining an evacuation scenario left a little too late. But heck who would want to leave their big boat until it was nearly flying across the canal. A truly wonderful documentary there Sam!
Woah!! 😮Only on the ground can you really understand the full extent of the destruction and damage these hurricanes cause. The heart ache 😢Thanks Sam for bringing first hand awareness to this devastation caused to the community. But on a brighter note, thanks for finding my missing case of cash. I’ll send you my dets for it’s return. Cheers 😂
Nice work on this one brother Sam! It all makes me wonder tho will you stick with the pickle or are you contemplating something else? Rightfully yours, Johnny
I'd be wary of finding bodies Mangroves may be a mixed blessing as a softer landing & kept boats from completely swept away... Progress & new toys + kept spirits high
