Mike Ferris is incredible ! From his work with his first band ' Screamin Cheetah Wheelies' to his Gospel stuff .What a set of pipes ! He also plays with a great organ player- Brother Paul. Thanks for this, Joe. Nice playing too !
"It's my party and I'll play if I want to." I laughed out loud at that one. That song got lots of play on the turquoise jukebox in the base canteen in Korea in 1963. Great job to all the artists on this video.
Mike….. you’re “way” too kind with your comment about me but I definitely agree with you about Mike and Paul. Thanks for watching and supporting our channel…. Best, Joe
Thanks Stephen… I did have fun but my playing like I told another viewer that said kind words about my playing was it was really more smoke and mirrors than the truly talented musicians on that stage. Yes Paul is music in the form of a human:)…. Best, Joe
@@MusiciansHallofFameMuseum I was stoked to see you up there ripping it up. And yes ripping. The proof is in the music. Whatever it was you sounded spot on. Loving the posts by the way...
The problem with commenting late is that most of the things I want to say have been said. Of course the band was great. Paul played like Paul and Ferris's pipes worked great. But toss some of that humble pie out of the window, Joe... For not really playing for 8 years (as you say), you nailed it. Your fingers would have hurt but I bet the smiles were bigger. I've just slowly started playing again after 1 1/2 years due to hand issues and my fingers are tennnn...der! And don't give us that "it was smoke and mirrors" line. When you needed to make the right sounds.. you did. Great video. As usual.
That was incredible!!! Just awesome! Wow! A Joe South monster hit played by the Swampers! And Joe on guitar. Some fine playing there Joe!! Flawless. And I wonder when the whole world will realize the impact and the excellence of Mr. Paul Shaffer? He will go down in history as one of the best who ever played the keys. He's everywhere. He's at every major musical event, it seems. What a talent.
Hot damn son! As fine a version as I’ve ever heard. Great mix off the board, hot box with joe and of course Paul and the band. The vocals were great and especially the background singers.
Man !, I loved that ! This channel is so great. Joe I keep saying how good this stuff is you put here cause it is. I’m running out of ways to say how great it really is. Please keep doing it I love ya for it.
Joe, I just stumbled on this tonight and I love the song. I was very entertained to see you playing also and you did a fantastic job. Wow! You can really play well !
Thanks Barry… I’m glad you enjoyed it. One of my favorite songs that I never got to play when I was in my band. Joe South being a inductee gave me the chance to include the song that night especially having Paul Shaffer playing organ. I honestly hadn’t played guitar in 8 years before that night other than practicing for a couple weeks beforehand. Killed my fingers:) I had great fun even though I didn’t deserve to place myself on that stage with those top drawer musicians but I had never played at any of our other induction concerts so I decided it was my chance. Thanks for the kind comment……. Best, Joe
@@MusiciansHallofFameMuseum You could have turned up your Strat a bit. 😊. You sounded great, though. Mr Shaffer must have been a blast to jam with. Like you, I liked the Deep Purple version the best 💜 Have to share this one!! Keep them coming!!
@@MusiciansHallofFameMuseum You're so humble being as talented as you are, and all that work you put into that Musicians Hall of Fame. Great song and performance , and SO cool seeing Paul Shaffer playing on the keyboards.I watched it twice.
I'm being honest when I say Ritchie Blackmore ain't got nothing on you Joe.. I love the added blues feeling you brought to it with your playing.. Just an amazing cover altogether.. A true grand slam that knocked it out of the park!
George….. you are overly kind with your comments……. But…. You made my day:) I hadn’t played guitar for 8 years before picking it up two weeks before the induction to try and build some calluses on the tips of my fingers so it wouldn’t hurt so bad or blister up. I never got the chance to play Hush in any of the bands I had so this was my chance and with the great Paul Shaffer on organ! I was scared to death to be on stage with those great musicians all around me but I figured I may never have that chance again. It was great fun. Thanks again…… Joe
Joe, Thanks for all you do. Nice seeing you play too. You were tearing it up. If you get a chance, please consider listing all the players in the notes. BTW, yours is my favorite RU-vid channel. Well done!
Thanks MFH….. I appreciate it…. Bass guitar was Dave Pomroy, Chris Leuzinger and Steve Gibson rhythm guitars, Mark Beckett drums. Craig Krampf percussion. Hope I didn’t forget anyone. Marcia Ware and gang on back up vocals. Best, Joe
Thanks Pete…. I didn’t deserve to be on the same stage as those guys but I just wanted to play with Paul on that song. It had been 8 years since I played guitar and my fingers hurt:)… best, Joe
Fabulous version. I remember the first time I heard Purple's version, i found it about 20 seconds before the Organ solo and all I thought was "damnit, these guys are good", not recognising it as purple thanks to the mk1 line up. Great memory 😃
@@MusiciansHallofFameMuseum thanks for replying Joe. I love that you take the time to do that and yes, a great memory it is, too. I can remember every details, from my location, the vehicle, the time of night as well as what I said when Jon Lord let fly with his epic solo. I've grown to love music for its ability to transport one back to another time and the memories that come with that. Shame I can't play anything 😂
Must have been a blast playing that song along with Paul Shaffer- I saw you sneaking a few peaks at him during his solo (who wouldnt?) Great job on the guitar !
Great guitar work Joe I know you're a humble guy, but you have that natural feel that many "pro" guys out there that play a lot notes are still trying to find. You already have it!
"It's my party, and I'll play if I want to." LOL! That's right, and man, was it good to hear you play. I have been wondering if you were ever going to put up something more recent of you playing. Ask your son-in-law to put up a Tip Jar on the page. No shame in it at all. It's all about keeping the lights on, my brother! Thanks again for all you have done and do, Joe.
Thanks RC…. That was the first time in eight years I had picked up a guitar. I had no calluses on my fingertips so it hurt. I appreciate the kind words as I was truly the weakest link in the chain on that stage but I had fun:)… best, Joe
@@MusiciansHallofFameMuseum, I stand corrected. It is all about keeping the lights on AND having fun :) Eight years is a LONG time to go without hummin-n-strummin! Kudos to you for hanging as you did!
Sounding great man 👍. You're sounding great on guitar.. Haven't seen Paul in some time. Paul still getting it done. Good stuff man. I remember seeing Deep Purple do Hush live when I was in high-school. Damn time moves fast.
Excellently real, deserving of fabulous superlatives... Jo when will you induct yourself in your own hall You can respond that you don't want to belong to any club that would have you as a member when sit down,... And write yourself a letter ✉
Hi M M…. I doubt any hall will ever induct me but one thing is for sure… this hall is for players like Paul and the studio players I forced myself on stage with but again I had great fun… best, Joe
Thanks Ace… yes Joe South also played session guitar on some classic recordings for other artist…. Chain Of Fools, Sound Of Silence, Blond on Blond with Dylan too I believe… not to mention producing, singing and the songwriting…. Best, Joe
Hey Joe….I should have mentioned that I loved the choice of song “hush” and the band but I’ve never seen you play guitar before and you are one fine player…..
Well…… I appreciate it. I did have fun playing with Paul and the other guys but honestly I hadn’t touched a guitar in 8 years at the time and haven’t picked it up since we finished that song. I just wanted to play that song and especially with Paul. Also to be completely honest….. I was by far the weakest link in the chain on stage that night. Having said that I also probably had the most fun. Thanks for the very kind words… best, Joe
@@MusiciansHallofFameMuseum allot of your favorites are favorites of mine as well; Chicago and Toto... Steely Dan and the Doobie Brothers... I enjoyed your three-part with Skunk... we're going to be losing alot of these soon, because they are all nearing seventy-five and eighty years age? Willis Alan Ramsey would be interesting? And Danny O'Keefe...
Danny recorded at American Sound Studio in Memphis with Reggie Young, Bobby Wood, Gene Christman etc… mr. Bojangles… Thanks for watching and your suggestions…. Joe
I'll be honest.. fellas, it was sounding great. But.. I could've used a little more guitar solo. So.. let's take it again. I'm telling you, fellas -- you're gonna want that guitar solo on the track! Guys, y’ know…that…that…it doesn't work for me. I gotta have more guitar solo ! I gotta have more guitar solo, baby! Guess what? I got a fever! And the only prescription.. is more guitar solo!
Oh Yeah!!! They did the "Deep Purple" version... A great rock song, played and sung by super musicians! That's the way to do it! Too many video cuts! One quarter as many cuts would have been better. Just show the band!
