In this first of many videos, Eric dives into the Husqvarna M46 chambered in 9.3x57mm Mauser to inspect the metalwork and stock and also to determine whether this rifle is safe to shoot. We will be doing a number of different videos in this series including stock repairs, drilling and tapping for optics mounts, recoil pad fitment, reloading and eventually hunting various game with these rifles. Stay tuned, much more on the way.

Fun fact: The 9,3x57mm is called "potatiskastaren" ("the potato-thrower"), because of the trajectory of the 286 gr. bullet. A perfect short range hunting cartridge, for everything up to and including Moose.

the germans for example boared their badly shot out 8mm Mauser hunting rifles to 9.3 because it was with rifling then cheaper than a new barrel Also Husquarna did not really that perfect with barrels, not by craftsmanship but materialwhise - they got some of their barrels from Walther in Germany with german made Krupp/Böhler steel to the specs and with the by sweden requested alloys because they accieved better concistancys in the alloy mixture . less bubbles in the steel and consistant very little sulfur phosphor and silicium

Hey Eric have you seen these Finnish rifles made from Mosins and Russian winchesters rechambered to 9.3x53R? That caliber is ballistic identical twin of that 9.3x57 mauser (load data is comparable). I have a modified Russian winchester in 9.3x53R and i love it and love the caliber! :)

I have a suggestion for removing the rust from an old barrel. Besides firearms I also collect and restore old hand tools. In order to remove as little metal as possible I use electrolysis. It is an excellent way to remove rust and oxidation. My only concern is that Bluing is a form of oxidation, I wonder if that process would remove the bluing. If I can find an old rusty cheap gun I'll let you know. However you might have more blued metal laying around than I and could give it a try. Really would be interested in knowing how well it works. I do know museums often use this process on old Iron parts. Actually saw an old cannon being restored in this manner at a local museum. Great video BTW!

Excellent excellent video I to get several rifles and pistols that people find in their barns after a death of the family and they want these guns brought back to life. Not completely restored but just into a state that they can be preserved with some rust removal and stock work and hopefully able to shoot. So when you take Grandpa's old Marlin 22 rifle that's been sitting in a corner of the barn unprotected for the last 40 years and bring it back to an almost new condition and they can actually fire it the family members are gleeful when they see the guns and then shoot them. I have been told that it brings them closer to their lost loved one. I don't use some of the products you use but I may give them a try although I'm very satisfied with what I use. I look forward to watching the rest of this series of videos. Excellent excellent work especially since you're such a young man. It seems as if the work you do is work it's been learned over several years of apprenticeships

I got a bore snake stuck in a barrel once. One guy I went to to help get it out, had the gun for weeks and couldnt get it out. I took it to another guy(should of went there 1st) and he took a .17 cal bore brush and just worked it out in less than 5 minutes. Bore snake was correct size but I tried to pull a solvent patch with the end loop. DONT DO THAT.

I always wanted a husqvarna rifle if u look at there logo it's a rifle barrel with the 3 sight posts. U should make a traditional budget safari rifle out of one. Put a ebony forend on, reprofile the bolt, cock on close, timmey, maybe rebarrel it to a 375h&h or better yet. Cut the chamber for a new wildcat, 375 chamber with the swiss round. That would make things very interesting.

@edwardabrams4972 6 месяцев назад
They are not rare except in the Crown and imperial models then those are rare! Only seen one crown and one imperial in the last 10 years of collecting rifles and owning hundreds of rifles. My mom in the early 50’s got a brand new husqvarna sewing machine and I got it when she died and I didn’t know what they were worth and sold it for a couple hundred dollars when in fact it was worth over a thousand being like brand new and model it was🤔😳 hard lesson learned! I have been collecting rifles 60+ years and husqvarna are one of my favorite❤️

I learned a great deal from this video to include that memory was not as bad as I thought it was in regards to this fine rifle. I had not seen one in many years nor even heard a mention of it. I think the last one I saw was when I was stationed in (West) Germany back in the 1980s and it was probably in the late 1960s or early 1970s that I last read an article covering the M46 in any caliber or configuration.

Man I wish it were easier and cheaper exporting old firearms from Europe to the US, a lot of fine old rifles gets scrapped here in Sweden because of the 6 gun limit for hunters. Have a old Husqvarna 45 singleshot barrel on my Marlin, a smart gunsmith saved the barrels when scrapping the rifles.

The chamber swab... "a piece of a Yak", hilarious ! Of course that's a Swedish rifle, which would make that the residue of the rare and endangered Scandinavian yak, lol :-) and your right, you need to strip the bolt, especially if your hunting in cold/cooler weather. Grease freezes, up here in Canada a common cause of failure to discharge is people lubing the action and then going out in -30C and having the bolt seize, frozen solid! besides... there might be more yak ! :-p God bless, love your stuff. P.S. isn't the 9.3 x 57 awfully close to a .375 H&H ?

Eric I had been wishing for a .35 Remington but I wanted it in a bolt gun. The 9.3x57 would be a great alternative. I want to get one from tradeexcanada. They have a bunch of them. If there could be a way of making 200gr projectiles for the 9.3x57 then I think the velocity could be increased. I would think that 200 gr is still plenty of weight to hunt moose with. Neat thing about moose is that you can walk right up to them. I've walked within 20 paces of moose on my 80 acres only a half hour South of Edmonton.

The forward receiver flat under the receiver ring, use a 1/4 inch 28 bolt cut to the width of the flat on the stock cut a pocket on the center of the flat and then install bolt with accraglass and cover complete, use release agent on receiver and assemble stock for 24hours , this upgrade has worked well for me on my 9.3x62 and .375 to 458 magnum

9.3x57 is a common caliber in combination weapons and dual and single shot weapons. A modern example is the Blaser K95

What's the process for drilling and tapping this action?

I would break up the video into each step. One on stock, one on triggers, one on cleaning parts, one on cleaning barrel. not more that 10 minutes and list your cleaning parts below the videos. Keep up the great work.

Could a meltdown video with a Daniel Defense be made? I know me personally and many others love Daniel Defense and would like to see what those rifles can take.

Love it Eric! Keep it going.... great content and very informative.... I'm proud to be a Patreon Supporter. I just finished cleaning up a 1899 born... M96 Swedish Mauser Sniper (M41).... I swear I dug about 10 pounds of cosmoline out of it... It's in fantastic shape, I've been sitting on it for about 2 years (while looking for a B-scope)... no luck so far. I'm also a big fan of C&Arsenal, Anvil (Mark) & Forgotten Weapons.

Any chance you guys could do a video on one of the build it yourself blunderbuss kits? Good watch. More restoration videos please.

its just 8x57 with a higher calibre, the 8x57 delivers ~3900 Joule of energy on a 196gr bullet and the 9,3x57 delivers roughly the same on a 230gr bullet. The only advantages are that this gun is cheaper since it can be a rebored barrel and it has a higher calibre which could theoretically give you more stopping power

No these are not rebored barrel. These are made just like this. Dont think.Get the correct fackts.

when you use bronze or steel wool aren't you destroying the blueing on the barrel?

Rust blued equipment has a much tougher finish than hot dip. Scrubbing your remington this way might not turn out so well
