I have completely worn out the Oregon Sword and Chains so time for an upgrade, I was not planning to put Husqvarna Chains and Sword back on the 550XP. However with no Oregon available to me today lets try the new Husqvarna X Series
I have been self funding and relying on help with all the media equipment needed to keep the channel alive, if you want to help do so by buying me a coffee, this fund is for a computer able to run editing software to improve your viewing experience.
Thank you.

Hi, Thank you and of course you right. It is a shame it takes 50 years to know that. Your very welcome for the video and thanks for taking your time to view it.

I went back to Husqvarna bars and chains. The last Oregon chains I bought dull way to fast. Watching Videos of pro cutters I’ve heard a few of them say they are using Stihl chain because Oregons quality has gone down in recent years.

Interesting you should say that, this video is a couple of years old now and last year I has the same experience with an Oregon chain our of the box. It did preform better after a hand sharpen but I am currently using Husqvarna chains on an Oregon bar.

Another good upgrade is the Stihl RS Chain or Oregon Pro Chisel no safety links and cuts really well and lasts.

Thank you Patrick, good tips maybe I should try one or both and see how I get on with them.

I bought an old husky 50 special at a yard sale. Needed a new bar and chain. Decided to go with the x-force bar and the x-cut chain because they were on sale. Haven't put the saw in the wood yet, but your initial thoughts make me feel good about the purchase.

I have now run about 150 hours on them so we will see how they have performed.

Interesting video, read your comments to others and now I'm curious, I've picked up a new saw (just about a month in now, a redmax gz5000 essentially a 550xp ) and I bent the guide bar felling a mid-size pine, so in a pinch went down and got this same Xcut/xforce setup, ever since, I've knocked the chain off 2-3x and have to file the chain tooth (guide bar side) to make it fit right in the channel of the bar. I wonder if this is a function of the xcut and xforce (or my inexperience?). My backup saw is a husqvarna 455 rancher and I dumped that horrible bar/chain combo for an oregon advance cut setup and love it.... so maybe I'll be moving on to the oregon on both saws soon. Thanks!

I replaced my Oregon bar and chain because I had to as I explained, I have not had the same problem as you yet. However as a avid user of Oregon the change was a reluctant one.

Great video, very informative. Got a 550 xp and will upgrade. Subscribed 👍👍 What do you recommend for a chain sharpener ?

@arctic-rebel 2 года назад
Thank you, I have always hand sharpened and still do. I will not say this is best because I have seen some great results from auto sharpeners but have no experience with any of them.

Would like to try a full chisel chain on those narrow kerf bars (I have pixel x-force and speedcut bars). But I can't find any other chains but Stihl's RS23 PRO, which comes only in Stihl's count drive links like 67, 74, 81 ecc... My question is: how would sit an Oregon 20lpx or lgx on these pixel rails? Beside the fact that the kerf width will clearly be narrow no more

Hi, Thank you yes I know and have been using them and love Oregon equipment. However here we are very limited on what we can get so I thought I would give the xforce and xcut a try and am also very happy with these new additions. Thanks for taking the time to comment I really appreciate it.

Simon so how are you liking the x cut chains so far?,I've never been a fan of husky chains at all myself now the speed cuts yeah good chains..I'm almost ashamed to say being a husqvarna man that stihl makes excellent chains thats what I run on all my bigger saws that take 3/8 pitch.
@arctic-rebel
@arctic-rebel 2 года назад
Now then, as I pointed out it was a reluctant change and still only got a hundred hours or so on the chains. anyone who uses a chain saw on a professional level just knows the feel of how it should go right. It is so much better than any other Husky chain that went before it by along way and it sharpens well. There is still time to be spent with them since I have 3, but now I have found a new source for Oregon I will be saving up for a new bar and some of my preferred chains. I use stihl chains on my big Stihl and have no intention of changing that but as my quick go to chain saw I will probably go back to Oregon bar and chains. I think the real challenge is about to come, as you knew logging season is about to start and felling trees is one thing, felling frozen trees is another all together so it needs to feel good and be safe missing my cuts by the smallest margin will not do, so ask me again in May. Although as I make the winter series logging videos I will probably be able to comment with more authority.

i noticed some people saying oregon makes husqvarna chains which i find hard to believe i like the oregon chains and they cut well and are good priced but when i goto sharpen all my chains the oregons are always more beat up than the xcut chains and they are all used on the same piles of cherry
@arctic-rebel
@arctic-rebel Год назад
I cannot believe it either, I like Oregon chains very much and always found the Husqvarna chains to be rubbish. That is until I used the xcut a new chain made in a new factory in a new way. Now I have both and use both which one is best is had to tell really but the xcut keeps its edge longer I think. So I am with you on that.

@@arctic-rebel "setup" i was just thinking of power and feel 😉
@arctic-rebel
@arctic-rebel 2 года назад
@@hunkenpunken Ok sorry, well this is my position, it would depend of length of the bar vs power output and maybe even type of tree's. Hardwood vs softwood, this is where is would be useful if you have a friend with a set up you could try before you invest. So I changed because I had to, I was unable to get the Oregon bar and chain I prefer thus try the next best thing. However if your already running the Oregon bar and speed cut chain I would say stay with it, it is the most reliable and stable set up I have used and the new set up still has not done enough hours to be sure of it's longevity. I know I can get 3 years pro cutting per Oregon bar and I use maybe 2 speed cut chains a season.

@@arctic-rebel I also use three chains in rotation. When they are all back to the witness mark, I get another set of three and a new 7 slot cog. The cogs wear in regard to pitch, as do the chains. For me, an old cog seems out of pitch with the new chains.

🤔 I bet you a sugihara lite pro bar and full chisel Origen chain , that the xfourse laminated bar won't last long doing bour cuts all day long . Note huskqvana are useing sugihara to make their lite bars .

..The damage on your old oragen bar is from lose chain syndrome, as the chain comes around the tip of the bar , it will slam into the bottom of the bar usaly after removable tip , as its soft spot . And also at the beginning of the bar at the top , as you flip the bar the damage will be on both sides .
@birdhunter2754

Bar. Problems. One lose chain. 2and. Cheap bar oil. That bar gets dam hot and oil lubs and cools bar. Turn up the oil ajustment.
@arctic-rebel
@arctic-rebel 2 года назад
We see things differently, not a loose chain, bore cutting and frozen timber. I do not buy any oil/lube at all. Math. 1 Gallon of lube 22 dollars. 4 years of cutting on that bar used 12-14 gallons of oil and that oil goes into my land, plants and animals. New bar 60 dollars. I win, the environment wins. Turning up the oil adjustment costs more and harms more, we life different life but thank you for your input. I am sure others will take valuable information from your knowledge. Thanks.
