Thank you Dennis for the info..you are my "go to guy" on servicing my Husqvarna..you have saved me $$$..again thank you for making detailed easy to understand videos
Dennis, you have no idea how helpful this is! I'm a 72 year old man learning, for the first time, how to use a riding mower, same brand as yours, and this video is really well done. Bravo to you! I'll be watching all your vids.
Dennis, you are very in tune with maintaining your mower. 90 percent of guys are very poor with the maint. required to keep their equipt. running. One tip I will share is NOT to wash your mower with water especially on top of your deck. Water is very fluid and will seep into your deck spindle bearings. Bearings are sealed to keep out dust dirt etc. but not water contrary to belief, a small amount will rust and wash the grease out. I use an air compressor to blow all the build up after every cutting. Engine, deck, and transmission. I only wash maybe once a year but follow with air to dry out. Just my 2 cents.
Sir...You have turned me into HBIC when it comes to my mower...I have learned A LOT, and shook my head at myself on things I've let go...i have never owned a new mower...well, in 2018 I bought my first one...YOUR MODEL...so you are my go to man! Thank you for doing every maintenance step for this mower...right down to the ones I didn't think were out there...Today I did a oil change, 2 spark plugs...(22 B & S), fuel and air filter, new belt and new blades and greased...and it only cost parts....where a shop would tripple it... I am SO proud..and actually keeping that chart. Thanks for the way you teach...even I can easily understand.. ( I hate those belt guards too!) \
That is really fantastic, Maria!! You should be very proud of yourself for tackling and accomplishing these jobs...way to go!! Thank you so much for watching and supporting my channel. I really appreciate that and your kind words!
Just want to say "Thanks," these videos are so helpful and well-done, answers all the questions before you can ask them or think of them. THANK YOU!!!!
Thanks for the Lubrication video. I have an Ariens 19hp Lawn Tractor and although I thought the steering teeth should be lubed, I kept trying to find an additional grease fitting. Manual was no help, but your video showed how and affirmed that the teeth should be greased (& kept so). Valuable info. Thank you.
I just bought a husqvarna yth20k42 and I was researching husqvarna mower reviews and I came upon this channel. I subscribed immediately without hesitation. Dennis, you have been very informative about how to keep the mower in top notch condition. Thanks a bunch.
Good video. I might add two things. When greasing the steering kingpins I always raise the front of the machine and let the wheels and axle hang free so that the grease gets into the contact areas. There also is likely a fitting in the middle of the front axle to lubricate the pivot. If you jack up the machine by the frame it will unload this area allowing the grease to get into the contact areas. By doing this maintenance the tractor will steer like new for a long time. Thanks for posting.
THANK YOU! My cousins told me to grease the zerks. What zerks? Where? Thanks to you, I am armed with the necessary info to go forth and grease. There are at least 4 manuals to this Ariens (Husqvarna) Hydro Tractor with NO obvious instructions and its guys like you who help me maintain a tractor I can't afford to replace any time soon.
Thank you for providing this video! You are the best explainer and teacher ever! I'm a woman by the way. Thank you. Your information and explanations really helped me. 👍😊
Thanks you so much! I'm glad this video helped and thank you for watching. I have several other videos about this mower...just go to my channel page and click on 'playlists'...I have a whole series on Husqvarna tractors. Thanks again!
I have been watching Dennis for about over a 1year . Because of his videos talking about his Hasqavarna and my research we went out and purchased our Husqavarna ts348xd. Bought it in April 2020. Just wanted to say Thanks Dennis for all your work on making Great videos on the Husqavarna
Thank you so much Roger! I have a video that goes thru the setup and things to check for a new mower. You may find it helpful: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-a-sRKmL4LLU.html
Well done Dennis. Clear, to the point, and well edited. Good point about cleaning the transmission cooling fins. I will check mine the next time I have my deck out. One thing I do is use my petrol leaf blower to clean the clippings, debris etc from the mower rather than washing it with water. Less rust. Thanks.
Hey Mark, thanks for watching! A couple of other folks have mentioned that too and I've started using a blower when the clippings are dry. If its wet out when I cut, I end up using the hose to clean off the deck still. But I agree with you....the blower does a much better job getting all the loose stuff out of hiding places on the deck! Thanks again!!
I use my leaf blower to clean off the deck after every use. Like the suggestion about cleaning the rear of the under carriage. It is very important for hydrostatic driven transmissions.
I didn't know there were grease fittings on the mower deck, I'm popping that back of tomorrow to look, thanks for that tip. I use a leaf blower every time I use my tractor and it's great for the deck well area that is more like a bowl than anything.
I like your style bro. Never thought about greasing the steering gear on my Husqvarna 48 inch ( I mean my wife's )You just got yourself a new subscriber!✌🏻️
Thanks for the videos. I bought my first rider this year, a Husqvarna. So I'm going to go over it with your tips, and make sure all is good. Thanks again!
Hey my first Husky ride-on also! I used to sneer at these folks using a big ride-on to cut their small lawns. For the past 40 years I've been using push mowers (a HusqHonda and a 30 year-old Briggs$Stratton- STILL STARTS ON FIRST PULL!) It's not so much that at 80 yrs old, I can't do the job anymore, but It just TAKES too long with a push mower!
Excellent video, thanks! One suggestion. I was really new to this, and didn't know how to remove the grease gun once connected. Watching your video a few times explained it, but having it explained would have saved me some frustration.
I use my STIHL Blower to get the clippings and any foreign material that might've accumulated during the Mowing. After watching you locate the grease fittings, I need to now look for mine more closer Dennis. I thought I only had 2 but now I"m not so sure. Thank you for pointing them out.
Hey, thanks for this video, I always look under my stuff for Grease fittings and some equipment like this are sealed and self lubing so I never saw these fittings on my husqvarna yth18542 ,which I believe is smaller version of yours,a 42” deck. Mine is going on its 3rd season and I’ve never greased the front end 😮. I’m definitely going to do this b4 I mow again this week
Good info. I grease my mower fittings regularly, but not the steering. Will start doing that from now on. I would hesitate to wet my deck down for cleaning on a regular basis. I clean mine after every use with a high volume blower and its stays clean.
Thank you for watching! Yes, a blower is a great way to keep the deck clean. I have a lot of shade in the back, so my grass is often wet when I cut. Makes it necessary to use the hose usually. Thanks!!
Good to see you wipe the zerk fittings off before greasing. Most people (the auto shop) don't do this and you'll see galling on a shaft right at the grease point (if you ever disassemble it.) Good video by the way and thank you. I have a high quality shopvac that I use with the hose hooked up backwards (in reverse) to blow off debris. If you use a crevice tool on the end of the hose, you can get as much as 25 pounds of pressure for cleaning. That way you don't have to use a hose to flush the machine off.
I agree about the zerks...also, not wiping them forces all that grit into the very thing you're trying to lubricate. Thanks for watching and thanks for sharing the tip about the shop vac. Great idea!
Dennis I really like your how to videos. I have searched the web for the word Glopping, could not find it anywhere, please explain. LOL . . . just kidding.
Hey Dennis. Well, I done it. I got my YTH22V46 Husqvarna lawn tractor today from Rural King. Borrowed my bosses trailer and got it home. Needed a new one real bad like cause I Flipped my other one End over End last year. It was close but it didn't get me. I was on a steep hill and got stuck 3./4 of the way up and when I pressed the left pedal which controls the drive train, I started rolling backwards,,,then I let it out to go forward and that's when it went end over end on me. Anyway, I won't be mowing that hill anymore. Thanks again for the very important information on this lawn tractor. It will be a big help in my future maintenance plans.
Wow Joe!! I'm sure glad you weren't hurt! I have one steep hill that I mow and I'm very careful with it....I've decided this year that I'm installing terraces with flower beds so I don't have to cut it. Your story confirms that is a good idea. Hopefully all goes well with your new mower and you like it as well as I do mine!
I use high pressure compressed air to COMPLETELY clean off the deck and spindles and all other areas of my tractor each time I am finished using it. Yes, the running out of gas at end of season is great to stop carb gunk and I always use STABIL in my gas. Mine is a TS348XD.
Great! I also have a playlist set up that has several vids about various maintenance jobs on this lawn tractor: ru-vid.com/group/PL4NggU4HQqRkfSYrAS1teGg2OJJ-ZW4ie I hope that helps!
Dennis, excellent videos on your husqvarna oil change and maintenance! While watching the videos, I said to myself, "I like this feller, he's alright". Then I saw your last name and knew your were alright, lol I'm certain our families bridge somewhere down the tree. Keep up the excellent work. You get right to the point, very informative and don't waste any time. Have a good one!
Thanks Jagger!! I appreciate your comments. My Coffey line comes thru Virginia (from Ireland, of course) back around 1650. We were in Virginia until my Dad migrated south. No doubt we're related somewhere back there! Nice to meet a cousin!
Dennis Coffey yes Sir, our Coffey line comes from Ireland as well. There used to be a free “CoffeyCousinsClearingHouse” on the web. I found out we are from the Edward Coffey line.
Yes, I think most of us in the US are from Edward's line. The Cousins are still around.....coffeycousins.blogspot.com/ My Dad and I both have done a lot of research on this side of the 'pond.' :) I'd like to take some time an do a bit or research in Ireland.
Dennis Coffey Yes, Inwouldnlike to know more myself. You can find us on Facebook “Jagger Angela Wells Coffey” or my email address is j a g g e r c o f f e y @gmail.com. Of course without the spaces so webcrawlers won’t start spamming me to pieces.
Thanks again for your video. Itwas very easy to follow. Unfortunately I busted one of the front wheel's zerk grease fitting (rookie mistake), but I learned a lot regardless. Your time and effort is greatly appreciated!
Great video. I agree w another commenter -- I avoid water around numerous regions (deck/under the hood) but for years I've used my Stihl gas leafblower to (gently directed) clean out the deck and, from just a bit further way, any dirt/debris around the general tractor/under the hood after use, especially if mulching/leaves/fall time. Those wells really do attract a lot of debris and I've seen a neighbor's deck rust out between water and wet debris. Thanks! Subscribed.
Thank you for watching! I agree. I made another video showing how I cut out/modified the spindle covers to allow for easier cleaning of those wells. It may be worth checking out. thanks!
So about cleaning under the plastic guards on the mower deck.I was out of sorts with my machine because it doesn't cut clean. It leaves spitters ,grass stems standing up after mowing. When i went to the parts house to buy a new spindle,i asked what does a guy do to clean under the guards and the reply was "use a leaf blower"...Works like a champ then spray it down with water to get the dust. Good video thanks...
Great idea John!! Especially if everything is dry. My biggest problem is when the grass is wet...then I just use the garden hose.....but, I like your idea....maybe just better to let things dry out and then use the blower. I'm trying it!! Thanks!!
This is a great video, I lubricated my spindles and wheels yesterday following your steps. The grease gun was a tool I have never used before and I had a hard time releasing the grease gun hose from the zerk fitting, but I finally figured out it due to pressure and was able to resolve the issue. I was looking through the owners manual for other maintenance items and there were a couple things that it doesn't go into detail about like checking the muffler/spark arrester, transaxle cooling fan, and engine cooling. Can you do videos on these other maintenance items?
Hi Cliff, thanks so much for watching and commenting. I have a video about loading grease into a grease gun that may come in handy down the road.... ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-G9VHehhSuCU.html That's a task that can end up messy. :) As far as the other items go....the muffler is basically an inspection item. You're looking for excessive rust, especially perforations, etc that may indicate replacement is necessary. Regarding the transaxle cooling....basically you want to make sure there is no debris, clippings, etc accumulated on top of the transaxle that would hinder proper cooling. Same basic idea with engine cooling as well....just make sure grime, sludge, clippings etc are not accumulated on or around the engine preventing it from getting maximum air flow. I'll do my best to make a video showing these procedures next time I go thru my tractor. Thanks Cliff!
Yes, the LEDs provided slightly more even light, with no filament shadows, but as you say that was only slightly better. As long as you watch out for spider webs, mowing at night is the best. I think it might be easier on the grass too, since dew will be on it after the mowing.
That's a good point about the grass. Husqvarna wires the headlight bulbs to the charging circuit which is why the bulbs go dim at low engine rpm and brighter at higher rpm. Eventhough I normally run my engine at full throttle (which is best for most small engines), I'm thinking of a LED light bar, wired to the battery, thru the ignition switch (so I don't accidentally leave it on and kill my battery). That way I should get bright light no matter the engine speed.
Thanx! I have a 24V54 with three blades, bought 6 months ago, and the clock says I've already run it about 20 hours or so this summer.. Huh? ?? This clock is incrementing faster than real time! -showing about an hour for every ~35 min I've been running the machine! Anyhow, as usual I never RTFM, so your video has inspired to do so, and grease the ~seven? points before the snow arrives! (it's now Nov 1/21) It already has a shattered mandrel bottom, which I have now somehow managed to remove and order a replacement mandrel thru Amazon. Seems to a common problem from what I've seen on Amazon. I don't suppose the part is still covered in my guarantee. The dealer (30 miles away) will no doubt say "Hmmm.. You must have hit a rock, sir! The guarantee does not cover this". Hey, with climate change, I may be able to cut my lawn and small field (yes, with a few pesky rocks!) before winter shuts us down. Thanx again!
Thanks for watching, Tony! Sounds like you have a faulty hour meter.....the timer chip in it is fast. They're easy to replace if you choose to tackle it. Hopefully you will get your spindle taken care of and be back to cutting soon!
I have the same model - love all you videos - very helpful - I am not a handyman but I took the deck off and back no hitch. I use a electric leaf blower after each use to blow out that area you talked about (PULLEY GUARDS) seems to work great. I had to take bolt off my deck when I removed it - couldn't get that clip off. Keep up the great videos Dave from Wisconsin
Thank you Dave, I really appreciate the nice feedback! Another viewer mentioned using a leaf blower to clean out from under those pulley guards....I just got a new leaf blower, so I'm going to have to try it! Sounds like it would work much better than using a garden hose. Thanks very much for watching!
I also use the leaf blower (80mph) to clean out the inside of my vehicles. Takes 10 minutes, blows everything out from under the seats, between the consol, places it is hard to get the vacuum into. Blows all the dust off the dash and seats. Open all the doors and have at it.
That's a great idea!! I use a leaf blower to dry the chrome on my motorcycle when I wash it, but I never thought about using it to clean out the car/truck. I'm trying that!
Thank you for the video! My mower is squeaking (more like squealing) after about 10 minutes of using it... Somewhere up front, below... loud while turning and going in reverse. I've lubed as many moving parts as I could see, will try the grease fittings next.
Thanks for watching! Squealing sounds more like a belt slipping to me..... is is a constant sound? I'd check the drive belt and the deck belt....I have videos for both. Drive belt: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Fyssdm4-S8g.html Deck Belt: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-SSKX3KOJjqw.html I hope that helps. If not, let me know and I'll do my best to help.
