Thank you so much for your generosity - I am an Australian who is stuck at home due to a number of illnesses and yet I am learning University tier information from an American for free four years after the publication date of this video. Amazing. I am astounded at how nice some people in the world are; in this case, you, Mark. Thanks again!
Thanks a lot for these wonderful lectures. I was wondering if you would lay out the difference between “εποχη” here with “epoche” as a phenomenological reduction . ( marginal note in paragraph 18 also emphasizes to not confuse these two expressions .)
8:23 to paraphrase, "Husserl would be opposed to the classical framework of existence being a secondary category to essence." So is Husserl an existentialist or is this just where Sartre gets the idea that existence precedes essence?
32:08 Can the distinction be verified by experience? An argument could be: everything humans experience is part of nature, humans are part of nature, humans experience their fellow humans, I experience humans making the distinction between deduction and induction, thus the said distinction is verified by experience.
30:27 My view on this is that the universal claim that every knowledge comes from experience COMES from experience in the sense that it is based secondly on logic - reason - which is based on experience. For instance, one could argue that all humans have human DNA, all are of the same species; I have experienced and used logic/reason to conclude that my and my acquaintances' knowledge comes from experience firstly; thus everybody's knowledge is based on experience. Also I disagree with the claim that you don't need experience to know that triangles have three sides. You know it BECAUSE you have experienced language, heard and practiced linguistics since you were little.
very confusing video, not logically categorized , very mouthful difficult words are being used (and believe me. I listen to 100 videos on philosophy. this is not one of the good ones). very bad material (and this idea that all the texts is one huge sheet, I didn't like it at all). bad way of presenting (not structural)... all in all, very weak. unfortunately I don't know any other comprehensive series on phenomenology . if somebody sees this text and knows any other online course or video series on this subject, I really appreciate if he/she helps me. thank you.
