My dad is 40 year tradesman. he does high precision diesel injection work. He was with us for all our kid stuff like baseball, etc. So was my mom. that made a huge diff. WE didnt grow up rich but we grew up with 2 parents and supportive people all around us.

Ted is spot on. I missed out working tons of hours while my first born was growing up. He was asleep when I went to work and a lot of times in bed by the time I got home. That’s just how the company I was with was ran back then. I missed a lot of firsts with him :( I corrected my situation by when my 2nd kid was 5. Enough was enough. Working all those hours got me nothing at the other company. It was ok pay but I wasn’t planning on running a truck till I died. Switched to Industrial/commercial and worked mostly until 4pm. Made the rest of both kids games and such. I’m glad I didn’t totally miss out.

i hear this a lot but there's something to be said for setting your family up for success yes they'll love ya for showing up to soccer games but they'll probably appreciate that safety net on a rainy day i just feel like high earners carry more guilt than is justified
