Hi I have a 2013 and it started doing this last summer also no heat on drivers side. Jeep just empty every pocket. Lol After I get this thing pay down some I'm going to Toyota were they still have good customer service. FSA has killed the jeep.
You provided one of the most informative videos I've come across. Stable shooting and clear step by step is greatly appreciated. Replaced my module in less than 30 minutes with your help! JEEP LIFE!!
Excellent video. Very informative and well instructed. Easy to follow instructions and the best part is you are the only person on You Tube to use background music in a professional way. No idiotic loud overbearing crap! Very good job!
Thanks for the informative video. Made changing the module so easy. It always helps to know how something comes apart. No broken clips or frustration trying to open up the dash. Thank you!!
Thank you for the great video. I just finished changing out a defective switch following the instructions in your video. It went well. The most challenging part was removing the right vent. I could not find the small hole to insert the screwdriver as described in your video because it was 180 degrees rotated. That was the only confusing part otherwise great instructional video.
Thank for the explanation as to what it doing when it flashing. Almost replaced that module its self but then tested all its function and found out the im not getting heat, so ill be pulling everything off to check my blend door to make sure thats the problem before flushing out heater core.
Excellent tutorial! Well explained, and detailed! Going to be changing mine out today on our 2014 JK. Its been acting up for a few years now. Should be quick and easy after watching this👍🏻
@@Ricks4WD Was a piece of cake👍🏻 Also changed out my clockspring, turn signal switch, spark plugs, serpentine belt, radiator, and oil cooler today (2nd time for the oil cooler in 50,000 miles 😡) All thanks to RU-vid contributors such as yourself and others droppin knowledge which helped to speed things up and knowing what tools where required beforehand. Again, much thanks👍🏻
@@Ricks4WD well, that was a waste...its doing the same thing again today with the flashing light🤦🏻♂️ Hope I can send this part back. I know sometimes they are funny with electronics....lt looks like its back to the drawing board for this fix for me...grrrr
Great video. Extremely informative. Detailed and complete. Also the video and audio very professional. I will have to try to replace the module in my 2016 JK. And, you are correct, my module started acting up after about 5 years. At least, with your video it can be an owner replacement job.
I would guess so... It's very likely that the failure mode for the Patriot module is similar to the Wrangler. The replacement would be a different part number, however. Your local parts counter can probably help with that. 👍
Awesome Tutorial! Did exactly what you did and was easy! Except for the Air diffuser. The STEALER-SHIP useless mechanic broke it when he tried to fix the radio and Super-Glued it in place.. Cut it loose with a razor-blade and it was Game on from there.. Thank you for Saving me Big $$$$$
The replacement part I used was Mopar # 68197433AB however you should check for the correct part number against your vehicle's VIN # at your dealer parts department, or a dealer parts site like moparonlineparts.com
Great video. I think I have the same problem. I have been replacing the acuators and have had no luck in fixing the blinking amber light. My next step is replacing the module. Only issue is I have the climate control knobs that you were talking about and cant find the part number hopefully the dealer can figure it out.
There are three actuator motors for hvac on the JK. The blend door actuator is on the driver's side and you can hear it. The flap controls wherher heat from the engine compartment gets in or from AC. The other two can be seen when you take rhe gloce compartment out. Ao you canneasily tell whether one of these motors or gears had broken.
Excellent video… I have a slightly different fault… the fan speed control does not work… I replaced the fan, no change, I’m going to replace the control module next…. Am I going down the right path to get the fan to work? AC flows cold air while driving
Thanks Rick, I have a 2012 and my HVAC module is dying.. Its having the memory issue and also the LED back lighting has started shorting out... I have the climate control as well so the issue seems to affect all units...
I had the same issue . Went through this whole process of switching the climate control out. But same issue reoccurred then it dawn on me. Let me try replacing the originally controller and just reset my whole power system. I went ahead and just disconnected my negative power from the car battery for 5 mins. Reconnected it and BAM 💥 no more flashing lights. My AC system is back to normal. No more waiting 1-2 mins for the cycle to start cooling the car off especially in this HOT AZ weather. I would try my method first before going out and buying a new controller and tearing your car apart. I own a 2017 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Sahara Winter Edition BTW JK. I hope my method will work cheers 🍻
Might be one of the blend door actuators is the issue. The light blinks when there is an issue with the blend door positions, either it is forgetting the position (bad memory on the controller), or there is some issue with the blend door itself.
@@Ricks4WD The blend door actuator was replaced a few months ago before the battery. It was stuck in the heat position. Actuator was replaced with one from auto zone. Not sure what else it could be?
Thanks for this video!! Just a question my 15 Jeep compass looks like it has a very similar HVAC module and mine blink, yellow, and for the first 20 sec I don’t get any a/c and when it does come on it starts to blow hot air. After I play around with it a little it usually starts to blow cold air, but from time to time it just keeps blowing hot air. Could that also be the module malfunctioning? Thanks again for your help on this video. It was awesome!
Hey, question my 2013 jeep wrangler sport unlimited does this on start up a few times out of the week. Does it the ac control module is going bad or it's not something I should worry about to much. I live in colorado. Thanks in advance
on my JK 2011 I started having this problem when I brought it in for a recall to the Dealer due to Side Mirror Defrost. since then this issue has begun. on top of that I don't even have heat not that I need it in Puerto Rico. Very annoying part of this is I need to wait till the light stops blinking for the AC to turn on. very FRUSTRATING!!
@@Ricks4WD Not sure. but I tell you this it is very sad that you bring your vehicle in for one thing and they cause more damage and its the side mirror defrost light that blinks once you turn the vehicle on and until it don't stop blinking my AC does turn on.
After installing a new control module I’m still getting the blinking light. I also replaced 2 actuators and now I don’t have any of the clicking noises from the actuators. Is it supposed to just program itself once after install or a few times? Thank you for this video!
It should take only one round of blinking after install and then it should stop. If it is still blinking, then there is probably another issue with the HVAC
@@dankocek3894 I was not....mine is still doing it. I did read or hear mentioned that the computer needed reflashed but have not dove into that at this point.
All the same symptoms you described are what's going on with my 2013 wrangler, replaced with new ac module and issue is still there. Kinda throwing my hands up, I've checked everything else and it's all good
Hi Rick,I have this problems in my JK 2015 but now my battery run out. You think that problems has something to do with the battery running out? Thanks in advance.
I think it's probably unlikely, as this particular issue shouldn't have anything to do with any extra drain on the starter battery. Probably time to replace the battery as well.
Man really starting to question my decision to buy another Jeep after taking a break for 6-7 years from them....Just picked up a 2014 with 50k on it, looked mint, no rust with great service records... but oil cooler failure within 2 weeks, tailgate hinges shot, headlights flicker on/off, doors leak, rear track bar issues and apparently something wrong with the HVAC controls. I am wondering if there is a point where you catch up or if it is just constant parts failure from poor quality. Definitely the worst vehicle I have purchased in a very long time.
Bought a 2011 about 6 months ago. Day after it went into limp mode w tranny. Fixed it,then had to bypass the traction control after it killed power on a bridge bump and nearly got me killed! Radiator, water neck,thermostat,3blend door actuators, door seals. It never stops man. It never stops.
So my issue is the back lighting is going out/gone out, does this mean that all that needs to be replaced is the dials themselves and not tha whole assembly. I can go either way though the switches only would be less expensive. Any info would help. 2016 jku
All my controls are working but I’m not getting any heat. It’s just blowing cold air. But I am getting the blinking light for the first 20 seconds. Should I still replace the control module?
The part number for the controls differs between 2013 and 2014; mine's a 2014 which is why mine is a different part number. It looks like you probably have the right part number for your 2013, but as usual, confirm the part number with your parts department using your VIN, as the VIN number will tell them for sure if it is compatible.
Install follow up: My original A/C switch panel was part #P55111168AG dated 10/25/2012. My (new) updated A/C switch panel was part #P55111168AI dated 03/16/2021. Underneath the (new) updated barcode label I could see the previous barcode label showing part #P68197433AB dated 02/24/2020. This is on a 2013 JKU Hardtop build date of 2012. Hope this is helpful for others.
New subscriber here, the light behind the ac control knob is going out. It flickers on and off. Is there anyway to open up the HVAC Control Module and change the bulb that lights up each knob? Thanks!
Rick I have a 2013 Jeep Wrangler Sahara where the defrost light has been doing that for about a year, The AC eventually would come on, but the other day we were going through our 7th day of 90 degree weather and I had the top off with the AC blowing and I noticed I was losing cold air . When I got home I decided to recharge the the AC unit with a can of AC Pro which i have used on other vehicles. When I went to fill it it wouldn't fill my AC unit. The AC unit light and the recirculation lights were on with fan speed at its highest and temperature at its lowest . I checked the ac compressor and it wasn't turning . Checked the 2 AC fuses under the hood and they were good. I can use all my HVAC controls ok but can't get the compressor to come on which needs to come on in order to refill the AC unit. If I were to replace this HVAC control module would it turn my compressor on. Any suggestions would be helpful.Thank you
Ah didn't see your other post here. Do you have any engine codes? I suppose it's possible that the control unit might be giving out and cutting your AC out, but it could also be the compressor, perhaps.
I'm having the same issues with my 2014 JK, blinking light, and a few minutes for the air to kick on. Ac/heat and fan speed work fine but now the air stays on defrost no matter what setting is selected. I tried replacing the actuator with no luck. Do you think that replacing the control Module will fix this air selection problem as well?
Yeah, I'd definitely try replacing the control module, sounds like it's on its way out. Mine is a 2014 as well, and I'd bet they're call going to start failing soon...
Hey Rick, I have a JK 2011, about a year ago My heat became almost non existent, I flushed the heater core and changed the blend door actuator under the steering wheel . The heat improved a little if You keep the fan low. I made it through the winter. I just started getting clicking behind my glove box and saw the rear defrost light blink at startup. I changed out the two blend door actuators behind the glove box. The light still blinks. Do You feel that Changing the HVAC module may also take care of My no heat problem? I live in Vermont and cannot take another winter with no heat.
The blinking light indicates that there is something wrong with running the test cycle on the blend doors. In my case it was that the memory on the control module failed, but yours may actually indicate an issue with the doors again since you've replaced them before.
All I know is that the blinking defroster light indicates an issue with the blend door test cycle or the control module itself. I don't think it indicates a thermostat issue although your tstat may separately have some other issue. Sounds like you might have something else going on beyond the HVAC control module.
I got this blinking light today. I had disconnected the battery and I detailed the interior in the meantime. During that time I obviously moved the hvac knobs around without any power to the system. When I got everything buttoned back up, I started the Jeep and I got this blinking light. I’m wondering if the memory got confused due to me changing the position of the controls while the battery was disconnected.
It's likely because you disconnected the battery, the module probably decided to relearn the duct positions. If it persists, then the memory on the module might have failed.
Rick Bernotas it has done it again... going to disconnect the battery again to see if that happens to fix it since that’s what seems to have triggered this in the first place lol! Thanks for the video. Looks like I’ll be doing the same in the near future...
@@h8tnlife I actually diagnosed the problem to be the actuator that controls the blend door. There were two contacts on the inside of the actuator that touch the little motor that didn’t have enough spring in them to keep contact with the electric motor. I modified it so they stay connected and it hasn’t failed since.
great video! question... Mine has no middle of the road heat its hot or cold. I looked at the actuator when moving the dial, it does not try to move till its all the way to hot or all the way to cold. is this the control module still ya think? thanks much!!
Hmmm... Not sure on that one. I'd guess it's the blend door actuator, but it could also be the control module. The control module is easy to swap, you could try that first and return it if it doesn't help.
Rick, I’m having the same problem with my 2014 JK. The Jeep dealership sold me a blower motor resistor/module but I cannot find that my Jeep has a resistor. I’ve gotten conflicting information from different dealers. Does the 2014 have a blower motor resistor.
I'm not as familiar with that part, but I'd think that if it was having problems, you'd be experiencing more obvious problems with your blower motor operating weirdly. How did they determine that the resistor was at fault?
@@amichaeljones1 again I'm not as familiar with the part, but I'd think it would be in the area of the blower motor which is under the passenger side of the dash, up under the footwell. Probably try removing the glove box door and dropping the blower fan out of there (3 screws) and look in that general area. I've replaced the blower motor but don't recall anything about the resistor.
Adam Jones my 2012 2dr jk blower stopped working, I removed and tested the blower with 12v works perfect. I’m wondering if you found that resister and did it fix the issue?
My 2016 jk's problem is the left vents blow warmer air than the rights and when the fan is in a lower speed the air gets colder, again only from the right side vents oh and yes the defrost light does blink
Hard to say. You might try retrieving any trouble codes from the car to see if that gives you any clues. Auto parts stores usually have a code scanner that you can use.
I have this issue including an AC that doesn’t start unless I tap the bottom of my passenger dashboard. I thought it was just the blower motor. Should I replace this part too?
Thanks for the help on this! I’ve got the blinking light and my directional control won’t switch to anything but defrost. Will this fix the directional issues?
So the blinking defrost light indicates either a problem with the duct blend doors, or a problem with the HVAC controls memory. If your defrost light isn't blinking, sounds like your ducts are probably functioning properly. Not sure on the AC... does heat work?
If you can't get hot air, it might be the blend door motor for the hot/cold air mix ducts. If the motor went bad, that would cause the light on your HVAC control module to blink, but the module itself might still be ok.
Not sure, I haven't replaced that myself, but there are a number of videos out there on the replacement: ru-vid.com?search_query=jeep+jk+blend+door+motor
hi Rick, would you happen to know if your replacement instructions are similar for a 2011 Wrangler? My part number is a little different. (Heater Control - Mopar (55111166AI) Thank you, Dan
Just replaced with factory new (Mopar) along with new duct actuators. Same blinking issue with delayed fan start now of about 25 seconds. Test cycle from 0 to 100% actuator position occurs after first start of the day or if vehicle has been shut down for several hours. Frustrating!
Did you ever find a solution? I replaced my module and I'm still getting the blinking light. Replaced the blendoor about a year ago and the all seem to be functioning fine.
So my 2014 wrangler shouldn't be cycling the blend doors after every startup? I've been getting that defrost light blinking for a really long time now and it seems like it gets longer and longer.
I did find one time last year that the blend door was stuck on heat. I disassembled the dash and manually moved it to cold and it's been working ever since but my defrost light still flashes almost every time.
@@Ricks4WD I haven't. I guess I'm worried it could be a $30 blend door and not the module. It does work after it goes through the test cycle after every start though.
It could still be a blend door failing, yes. But that test cycle runs after every startup if either the memory is going bad on the controls, or there is something actually wrong with the doors. Should be one or the other
@@Ricks4WD That makes sense. I'll verify that the bland door is still actuating correctly (It got stuck a while back but seems to work now) and if so move on to the module. Thanks for taking the time to respond!
