Cool little button, informative video! Can I also mention how I think Jeep does a great job at providing an excellent mix of technology and features, while maintaining the simplicity in there driveline systems! A center console shifter, hand e-brake and the reliable 4wd lever system!! Less buttons and computers controlling the important things…things we can physically engage, rather then rely on a computer system! Just a thought.

Great information. I am new to the Jeep and honestly haven't used the lockers yet. Haven't needed them. Anyway, I have a question. I have been seeing on other channels that you should never engage the lockers in 4H. Can you please take a moment and explain the type of situation that you would want to use the rear lockers in 4H? I want to learn is why I am asking. I just hit the subscribe button because I did thoroughly appreciate this video. Thanks, Pat
@SamkoWorkShop
@SamkoWorkShop 4 месяца назад
A rear locker connects both rear axles together so they provide equal traction. Without the locker engaged the rear axles are open and if one wheel looses traction the other wheel will loose power (simplified version). You should not be driving with lockers engaged. They are for obstacles mud holes and sketchy terrain that requires more traction. Since most of those situations require slow speed and power most people go into 4 low anyway before engaging the locker. But going into 4 low and locking up requires many steps (come to a stop, shift in to neutral, shift into 4 low, shift into drive, pull forward a bite, stop engage the lockers ) then you can hit obstacle and reverse all that process to get back to 4 high unlocked. The ability to use a rear locker in 4 high cuts all the crap down to (stop, hit button, go). Example driving a back road with 5 big mud holes over a 1 mile period. With 4 high ridge road, stop before hole, hit locker button, go thru holes, stop unlock locker, continue to next hole and repeat. Imaging if you had to do all the required steps to go in to 4 low and locker for all 5 of those holes. Hope this helps explain it. This is coming from a guy that does 200 miles a week of that "5 holes per mile roads".
@EverythingRVbyPat
@EverythingRVbyPat 4 месяца назад
@@SamkoWorkShop Great explanation. I get it. That puts a perfect picture in my head. Like I said, I'm pretty new to jeeping and have not needed the lockers yet. Although 4 high saved my but yesterday. Glad I was in when I hit the mud. LOL. Thanks again, Pat
@SamkoWorkShop
@SamkoWorkShop 4 месяца назад
@everythingrvbypat5613 and when you hit that mud in 4 high it was really like 2 wheel drive because of the open differentials. Had you hit the rear locker before hitting that mud it would of been a 3 wheel drive. Had you used both front and rear lockers it would of been true 4 wheel drive. Again simplified versions without getting into torque transfers etc. But for all practical purposes when a wheel looses traction 2wd become 1 wheel drive, 4x4 becomes 2wd and 4x4 with rear locked becomes 3 wheel drive and 4x4 locked front and rear is true 4 wheel drive.

Modes are often not mentioned or under rated. I got a 2018 Renegade at a real steal in May 2019. I live in MT and frankly other than the Gladiator I got now, a Renegade is a very good Montana Car. But anyway I discovered the "Sand Mode" in the Renegade and the description is almost identical in that it became more torquey and the shift points dropped. I called it Easter Egg mode and on National Forest Roads you could fly... But it also had great engine breaking on the way down at speed. Oh, I traded the Renegade for a Gladiator in Dec. I wanted one back in 2019, but they were just too expensive. But in December an opportunity to get one at 30% off was just too much to pass up. AND a decent trade on the Renegade. The Renegade was a good vehicle with limited off road capability so the bias was paved roads, but I still took it a few places that were pushing it and it made it. The Gladiator is not as "refined" in terms of road manners on paved roads, but it will go places the Renegade couldn't like Tizer Lakes a few miles down the road from me. I tried but it was too much for the Renegade. The Gladiator is like, that was fun, what next.

Yes. They were both within a grand. The zr2 was going to be 47 and I paid 46 and change for the gladiator . The gladiator fits my life style much better. It's so robust and designed for what I do. My trucks spend 90% of their lives in the swamps and mud and washed out places being rocked, bounced, and beat up and lots of water crossings. The zr2 would handle it too. But there is a confidence with the 35s on the jeep and the fun factor is unmatched! I love my gladiator. I mean like funnest most capable truck I've ever owned. So unless your using the locking diffs you want traction control on in 4wd which the off road plus initially turns off.
@SamkoWorkShop
@SamkoWorkShop 4 месяца назад
For icy roads and slippery driving conditions leave traction control on . Traction control will limit your throttle. Meaning if the wheels start to slip it will reduce power to prevent wheel spin no matter how hard you press the throttle. That's great for road driving. Off road you want control over the throttle and to be able to power thru mud, etc. So traction control off is better for me in the woods.

Please never say that it changes the gearing ever again lol. That’s not how that works. 😂 It essentially does 4 things. 1. Allows you to drive at higher speeds with rear locker engaged. 2. Disables Traction Control 3. Adjusts throttle for off road driving. 4. Adjusts auto trans shift points for off road use.
@SamkoWorkShop
@SamkoWorkShop 4 месяца назад
Exactly everything I said it does. I just said gearing because it feels like it changs your rear ratios. Obviously it's only shift points but not all people under stand that and explaining like I said with feeling like it changes your gearing makes it easier for people to under stand and makes more sense. I was ase certified mechanic for 10 years then an automotive engineer for 16 years. I know how it all works. But it's important for me to translate it so it makes the best sense. Most people out there don't even know what a locker is lsd is how traction control works etc. So I try to simplify to help them understand

@@SamkoWorkShop I get it.. but lets be honest, I've seen where you're at, you could easily do all that in 2wd :) , I think holding the gears longer is a benefit in the sand, like the dunes

@fastfed now that's funny. Yep, dunes, mud, deep snow and anything that 4 lo is too low for.

It only allows for rear locker in 4h and in 4 h only works up to 20 miles an hour then locker kicks off. 4 h is not a crawl mode used for higher speeds. In 4h it's supposed to be for a little more traction without going 4 low .
@SamkoWorkShop
@SamkoWorkShop 2 месяца назад
You should not need a locker faster that 20 mph. 4 low doesn't give more traction than 4 high. 4 low just changed the gearing. And going into 4 low at every obstacle then back to 4 high for driving gets old fast down here in the swamps with an obstacle every quarter mile. The offroad plus button and the rear locker in 4 high gives a person all the capability needed to get theu holes and obstacles without going into 4 low. I use this mode 30 times a week in my 300 miles a week in the swamps. Love this offroad plus mode. But that said now that I have a tazer mini and can use my rear locker in 2wd and both lockers in 4 high I will probably never go into 4 low again.

@@SamkoWorkShop 4L is stronger than 4H, as it provides more torque and power to the vehicle's wheels.
@geneshadd4483
@geneshadd4483 2 месяца назад
When shifting into 4-Hi under Off-Road Plus mode, you’ll see more responsive acceleration and a change in the way the vehicle performs in softer terrain. The mode dials in a more tuned traction control, allowing for additional wheel slip in sandy conditions to ensure the vehicle doesn’t bog down and lose momentum. Additionally, this mode optimizes transmission behavior, holding gearing longer and keeping the revs high for continued power. This is crucial when attempting to traverse a muddy patch on the trail, or looking to crest a particularly tall series of sand dunes. Finally, using Off-Road Plus in 4-High also modifies the Jeep’s Electronic Stability Control, making it less obtrusive and generally keeping it from impeding movement so quickly - helping the vehicle overcome traction issues in sand, mud or snow.

I'm partial to my county's FB jeep group, Cherokee County Jeepers, because I'm a moderator for them 😂. However for a state wide group GA Jeep Alliance is a good pretty big one. If interested our group, Cherokee County Jeepers, has a ride this weekend on the 14th that I am leading on the Big Frog Loop. Stock friendly with 1 spot that makes it a little interesting.

@@SamkoWorkShop 👍 It was directed at anyone who wants in. We are a family friendly group and only accept members if they answer the questions and agree to the rules, so please remember that if requesting to join the group. Without doing so there isnt a way for us to guarantee new members know the "rules" so to say and to be PG friendly. We do monthly rides, sorry if this is a bunch of info but this is this year's ride schedule. January is the Big frog loop, February is Charlie's creek and Tray Mountain, March we are headed to Stony Lonesome to get some badges, April we are doing a ride and shoot in Cohutta and Sumac Creek Shooting range then later in the month we are headed to Prentice Cooper in TN, May is Beasley Knob OHV for the badge, June is Gultches ORV for the badge, July is Turkey Bay OHV for the badge, August is our easy night ride on Old Bucktown and Nimblewill then later in the month a 5313 ride, September is Morris Mountain, October is Coppinger Cove, and November is Windrock for the badges.

I would believe so but not sure. Would have to check one out and see. The Mojave has the high performance off road suspension but gives up the front locker. So not sure about the off road plus button.
