great guns im 56 years old now ,i had one when i was 11 years old and sold it (like a fool) ive had a itch to scratch about getting another so i bought a brand new one yesterday in .22 calibre. The nostalgia all came flooding back as i shot it in the garden yesterday and had so much fun shooting half a tin of pellets in one sitting :) . I have other guns including a high end air arms prosport in a walnut stock .177 , and a air arms s400 in a walnut stock , both topped with very good scopes ,, I dont think ive shot more than 500 pellets between the two in a couple of years ! .. This new hw35 standard rifle with iron sights i feel is going to get a lot more use , so much fun. Super smooth out of the box ,accurate and generating just over 10.5 ftlbs of energy at the muzzle with rws superdome pellets , ( power is likely to creep up a fair bit as it runs in to around 11 ftlbs ) If i could turn back the clock id still have my original hw35 . fantastic informative video , thanks for sharing
Good little vid here. Very nice looking gun for its age. You've taken good care of it! Thanks for the useful tip on keeping the latch open to keep from scoring the breech. This will be my next rifle. About $570 here in the States.
I own one too in .22. Great rifle. 43 years old than it has the leather piston seal. 10 foot pound is to little so you probably have to replace the piston seal for a synthetic one. Cheers!
If it has a leather washer then the transfer port will need sleeving down to 3mm for a synthetic seal to work without slamming. If you use a piston head converter you will lose 4mm off the piston stroke. Sleeve down the transfer port from 4mm down to 3mm and replace the piston complete for a much better firing cycle. These old rifles can be made to shoot nicely provided that they are not over-sprung and don't suffer a porous breach as some of the early ones did.
I have just acquired the same make gun, according to the serial number between 42 and 44 years old. I have been trying to find out more about it as the stock doesn't have the finger grooves.
Ive just been given my own 22 or 5.5 cal Hw35 its about 40 to 50 years old inc a broken leather strap , I fired it dry I dont know if it fires true, is it better to leave the stock in its condition or renew it and whats the best coating for the iron work , providing its straight (ish)
