Yuma Review - Hybrid Golf Chipper
When you ask an amateur golfer today what their favorite club in their bag is, more often than not they’ll say their hybrid. But why is that?
Hybrids are our rescue club, they’re usually very forgiving and can provide a decent amount of distance.
They also can be used in a number of different situations on the golf course… Some golfers even use them for chipping around the greens.
Why would they use a hybrid for chipping?
There’s a couple of different situations where it might be beneficial.
First off, if the ball is on the fringe but up against the collar of the rough it can be very difficult to get an iron or wedge on the ball. A hybrid can smoothly make contact with the ball without get caught up in the collar of the rough.
Another situation where it might be useful is when you’re on the fairway or fringe and there’s a long distance of green between you and the hole.
Using the hybrid like a putter, a high-level golfer might hit a “bump and run” shot that is much more forgiving than trying to fly a wedge shot all the way to the hole.
But the most important reason is to stop chunking or thinning your chip shots. And that may be the biggest benefit of this new hybrid chipper.
Plenty of amateur golfers struggle with chipping. It is one of the hardest parts of golf, primarily due to the touch and feel. The chipping struggles that you experience could be resolved with taking a new short game approach.
With the Yuma Hybrid Chipper, every level of golfer can have that same confidence around the greens, even with a hybrid chipper.

I just received this Yuma Chipper today. Yes! This is the Real Deal… makes chipping closer to the hole easier and more consistent! I also went to the golf range twice: in and and in the pm just because I was so excited to practice and get the positive results! It also works as a short game wedge. Lastly, I can use this as a 9 iron/PW distance approach shots too! My new nickname for this Yuma Chipper is Gillette since it will SHAVE 🪒 strokes off my scorecard! 😂⛳️

Been using the Yuma for a few rounds so thought I’d provide my results. In a word: mixed. If the ball is at most 5-7 feet from the green, there’s plenty of green to work with, and the ball is in fairly short grass: it does a great job. Problems I’ve had include: 1. Won’t work over 10 feet from green, especially if the grass is a bit high. In order to get enough loft to get over the tall grass around the green it is running so fast on the green that it runs off. 2. If the grass is too high around the green, regardless of distance to the green, the club just can’t get through it for a good strike. As in this video, the best results are from a fringe that you could have just putted from. I welcome any hints that can be provided but I just don’t find it useful enough to keep in my bag. Thanks.

Randy, thanks for the honest feedback. With the unique design of the club, it definitely might take a bit to get used to a slightly different setup and motion. The upright lie angle allows you to play a little closer than you typically might have hit chip shots, with an easier straight back and through motion, and the large sole allows you to play the majority of shots in the same ball position. Here is a playlist of quick videos we did using the Yuma in different conditions, hopefully it helps you get a better feel for the club: ru-vid.com/group/PLXlxb-oJl7XXW1O_gtNqNXDQXe70zHibT Let us know if it helps!

Okay, watched all the videos in the link you sent. Some valuable insights. However, the video about hitting from tall grass may not be too useful to me. Typically, in the courses I play here on Oahu, the “rough” you were hitting from looks like the approaches and fringe right next to the greens. The rough I normally have to deal with, which surrounds the greens as close as 3 feet away, is easily 3-4 times taller than the “rough” in your video. I feel lucky if I can see the ball, let alone hit it well. I’ve tried getting the Yuma, with a putting style stroke, through the grass and it’s impossible without swinging so hard the ball rockets out. All that being said, I’ll give it the benefit of the doubt and give it a few more rounds in my bag. Thanks for the reply. If you have any further suggestions I’m ready to copy. I’ll get back to you in a week or so. Again, thank you very much. Please stay safe!

Great review. Thank you. I was hoping it would be better in higher(first cut) grass

I have tried several chippers over the years and this is true of all of them. Work great in short grass but not in long grass.

The Yuma will have all the great benefits of a hybrid for chipping while also having the perfect loft...

You're only hitting from the fringe. Why wouldn't you just put from there? I'd like to see a video of how this thing works from the fairway and the rough.

So which club do you take out of the bag in order to add the hybrid chipper?
@USGOLFTVshow
@USGOLFTVshow 2 года назад
It could be any club really. Track how often you actually use each of the clubs in your bag for a round or two. You might be surprised that a club or two goes unused. 👍

Took your advice and purchased one. Looking forward to trying it.

I find chipping too easy to justify putting a specialist club in my bag....hit a full shot with it...maybe it could replace a wedge 😁

Not only go further back into a bit taller grass, but grab a random member who struggles to break 100. I prefer to see how average golfers can hit these gimmicks instead of low handicappers with semi pro talent.

Ok. Got two pieces of feedback for you. 1. I’ve been using your swing technique for experienced golfers and it has totally cured my slice and gives great distance, at least with my driver. I still find that I frequently excessively fade or slice with my fairway wood. 2. Been practicing and playing rounds using the Yuma where appropriate. Even with a very strong grip, if the grass is even moderately long, the ball keeps getting kicked severely to the right. I can clearly see that the club head just can’t make it through the grass. Any suggestions? My short game is really suffering so if I could get these “simple” chips down it would help. My putting needs a lot of help as well. I’m using your videos to work on that but it’s early days still. Help with the Yuma is an immediate need. Thank you. Please stay safe! Randy.

I purchased the Yuma (see comments on purchase below) and look forward to using it asap. I have not found any information/videos on how far back the Yuma can be used from. Has anyone used it from say 60 or 50 or so yards? Also, can it be used to get over the sand trap?

Good question, depends on the surface and area. In general, 15-20 yards off the green would be max.

Using it on the fringe works but what about in the grass?

Solid option unless the grass is really long.

You know you can only have 14 clubs in your bag, right? I can see this hybrid chipper works on green fringe (can be putt btw), but what about bunker, rough, or 60 yards shot? i see this club has limited usage

We are aware of the 14 club rule. Many golfers struggle with chipping and this club can help. Also the vast majority of golfers are not playing tournament golf, they are playing for the enjoyment of the game and do not follow all the rules of the game.

@@USGOLFTVshow the hell with rules, I have at least 18 clubs in my bag. I love this club. I’m not posting any scores, I play for fun so I have as many clubs as I can stuff in my bag.

Todd, I am disappointed you are promoting this company. Please look at the complaints registered by the BBB, and how this company is scamming your clients by not delivering on their merchandise
