What an amazing inside from the lab, really cool to watch. By the way you are strong 💪 doc! The speed on that 415lb deadlift was decent 😃

This video was super cool! I’m also enjoying the CSCS video series. I second another viewers idea for a video going over the PhD process. I’m about halfway through my master’s degree and plan on getting a PhD afterward, so some extra insight would be fantastic.

So glad you've been enjoying those Mylan. Sounds like I'll have to do that video then!

I have enjoyed your content for a while now and passed my CSCS this winter thanks to some of your videos. In fact, because of your presence on RU-vid, I nearly applied to Point Loma Nazarena for my Masters. I ended up staying local but just wanted to thank you for the content. Big fan of the vlog… keep up the awesome work

Hey Dr. Goodin. I’m about to start a DPT program and I am thinking about getting my PhD in Kinesiology afterwards. Can you do a video on how you obtained yours and what the process is like or any advice for anyone who is interested in obtaining their PhD? I really enjoy your videos. Thank you so much.

Chris, that's a phenomenal idea. I'm writing it down now in my list of potentially helpful video ideas. A DPT/PhD would be a formidable combo indeed, though after your DPT and with enough opportunities for research integration and/or coaching experience, the PhD might not be necessary. Depends on your goal though and what really drives you. If it's a means to an end, then the DPT + lots of experience in the sport perf. field is enough to serve athletes well and differentiate yourself. If you're driven by a thirst for knowledge, hope to go into full-time academia, or want to be a researcher, then PhD is a near necessity. That's my quick two cents, but in the process of getting your DPT you'll no doubt have good mentors who can help guide you as well. Best of luck as you head into your DPT!

Next I'm going to choose to vlog on a day we have an epically long Zoom call. Less exciting, but it will be easier to edit 😂. Plus, if you're in it that's guaranteed views!

Thank you Seton! What we did in this video ended up being purely for animation purposes, but we'll have more performance-oriented research coming soon.

I have such a hard time figuring out how much lifting to do compared to my endurance training. Lower days in particular wipe my legs out for fast runs

Heart rate between 140 and 150 is a recovery run? How do you figure out your zones? Right now, I'm using 135bpm as my "base" zone and recovery would be much lower than that.
@FrontlineStrengthTraining
@FrontlineStrengthTraining 2 года назад
What are you using to track your heart rate data? Also, do you have any methods for accurately assessing ones VO2 Max and fatigue index on themselves?
@DrJacobGoodin
@DrJacobGoodin 2 года назад
I have a Garmin watch, and I think the Garmin app does a great job of displaying the data. As for VO2max, it unfortunately cannot be directly measured without a gas analyzer of some sort, which is where the expense comes in. There are a lot of ways to indirectly estimate it with varying degrees of accuracy though. The easiest and most valid tests for runners would be to do a 1 mile, 1.5 mile, or 12-minute run test. For instance, here is a calculator that estimates it based off a 1 mile run: www.brianmac.co.uk/vo2mile.htm

It's not the size of the hill, it's how fast you run it 😉

Hey Dr. Goodin how can I find your CSCS lectures in order? When I go to your channel they are all spread out, even in the CSCS playlist.
@DrJacobGoodin
@DrJacobGoodin 2 года назад
They should all be in that playlist, but be aware that I still have 3-4 chapters left so you won't find all 24 chapters.... yet. Make sure you're subbed so you can see when they drop!
