I don't know how hydrophobic spray can help in jewellery. You can try using the solution in a spray bottle. Or simply buy spray solution from Amazon

There are many companies who sells these chemicals. One such company is Wacker chemicals. You can purchase the concentrate and dilute according to the need.

There is no boiling involved, white thing is magnetic bead, it is required to stir the mixture of vacuum grease and the solvent that is hexane in this case.

Definitely isopropyl alcohol is non-toxic solvent. But silicone grease was only partially soluble. But it can be used.

The Rain-X automotive glass solution is a small bit of silicone in like 97% isopropyl alcohol, the starting solution of alcohol must be practically anhydrous or free of water. I use 90% isopropyl and paper towels to wipe silicone glue off my hands clean all the time.

No silicone oil has entirely different property, you have to use the ingredients present in silicone grease like poly dimethylsiloxane

Here I used n-hexane. This is just a tutorial video. If you are doing research, then I suggest you do a thorough literature search and then chose the appropriate chemicals.

It is inherent property of hydrophobic surface to protect against rust. If you coat the surface properly, then it will act as anti-rust

This coating was not tested for durability, but any hydrophobic coatings specially the commercial spray has long life of more than 30 days

SiO2 provides some scratch resistance. But that is a different coating which is used to prevent scratch in cars.

I do not know the composition of 9H. It may have similar constituents.

The cost of silicone sealant and paint thinner can be found out from local hardware store.

It will not be like a clear solution but slightly hazy. Please check the ingredient of silicone sealant, it must contain polydimethoxysilane (PDMS) then only it will work. You may try adding a little more paint thinner.

Can i use silicon dioxide power instead of silicon sealant ??

@@hariprasanth952 silicon dioxide is not hydrophobic. You will have to prepare alkyl functionalized SiO2. You can do it by reacting methyl trimethoxy silane with TEOS.

@@inkkaheart This process is not applicable for wearable fabric. You need a solvent which can be easily evaporated. Also the silane precursor. which is used for wearable fabric is different.

I mixed silicone sealant with hexane. You can try with silicone sealant in paint thinner also.

Depends on solvent, if you use paint thinner, it smells like gasoline, if you are using alcohol based solvent in some other methods, it will be like alcohol

@@xavierbaniels3176 alcohol based solvent like isopropanol is for another method. The method shown in video is for educational purpose only. For car paint formulation is different. I suggest you to read literature if you want to make it your self

Yes it is the same, silicone sealant has the same chemicals, you can check it's components, if it contains dimethylsiloxane then it will work.

@@rhiannemendoza9466 you have to keep it in air tight bottle, otherwise solvent evaporates. Simply add more solvent and stir. It will be ready to use.
