Music from the computer game Hylics 2. This track was composed and performed by Chuck Salamone (c) Mason Lindroth & Chuck Salamone store.steampow... mason-lindroth... Soundtrack available for purchase at: masonlindroth....
In battle, enemies slowly hobble towards the party giving the impression that Wayne and crew are slowly walking backwards/moonwalking while casting gestures and snapping. Also, I like how most enemies resemble mollusk/invertebrates or look squishy. This game is a gem.
other turnbased rpgs: get ready to fight! Hylics 2: [sips some mango soda while holding a surfboard] whooaaa, you encountered an enemy, maaaan. tubular.
I'm used to high adrenaline, fast paced turn based battle themes like in SMT, so I was extremely surprised when this track spoke out to me. It hits a strange medium of both relaxing and adrenaline inducing for me. Amazing work, Chuck
@@chuck_salamone Chuck, do you, by any chance, know of plini? he makes prog rock and honestly when I first heard your soundtrack I thought it was made by him. you're both super talented, and honestly when I first heard plini, I never thought I'd hear anything like it again.
@@callisto1560 That's....that's so nice of you to say. I absolutely LOVE Plini. He's definitely been an influence on how I approach world building in a song.
that chord transition at 1:12 is so goddamn COOL. It seamlessly goes from harsh and abrasive to absolutely dreamlike. Fantastic work on this soundtrack Chuck. Looking forward to playing this game and seeing what you do next
Good interpretations. I just felt like writing something cool and different, something that challenges listeners to enjoy hearing a track with an unorthodox chord progression. I also tried to give it some JRPG flare, so I tried channeling some laid back persona style vibes!
@chuck_salamone @Chuck Salamone i completely agree. It gets tiring in most rpg's when its just non-stop action with no rest. "Turning it up to 11 and staying there is just as boring as staying at 1."
@Chuck Salamone you need to get with Daniel Aged! He’s another indie/experimental guitar player! I would totally love to see what happens if y’all could make something!
@@chuck_salamone Would you mind explaining some of your thoughts on the theory behind the progression and chords? I really love the feelings you created but I'm not quite versed enough to tell by ear what modes are being used/implied
This song feels like an evening drive while it’s summer, the sun is still out but it’s dark on the inside of your car and you can feel the AC blowing on your face.
I stumbled onto this game (and it's predecessor) and I have to say I've never seen anything remotely like it. It reminds me a bit of dream simulator but the shapes and especially the clarity of it are just bizarre. And this soundtrack is just as strange as it is fascinating. I cannot understate how amazing it is finding something like this, seriously.
The best way I heard the Hylics series described was "Prog rock album covers: the RPG" and it's very, very accurate. The whole thing is surreal but in a very comfy way.
RU-vid recommend me fancy meat computer sometime in November. I don’t know why it thought I would like a song named fancy meat computer but it was right. I love hylics 1 so much, and I don’t really need to avoid spoilers from the comments because I won’t know what they mean.
This is exactly the kind of psychedelic bop I'd expect from the visuals Hylics 2 rocks. I just recently saw the trailer for Hylics 2 having never heard of the series before and shortly after stumbled across a video about the first game by Nitro Rad. This shit looks so fucking tight honestly. I'll have to look into getting this game when I have the money. This game is visually and audibly _dripping_ with style and I love it.
bro, same. I saw the Hylics 2 trailer first as well....weird. After the game came out, I started lisiting to it's soundtrack and waited for Nitro Rad's Hylics 2 review after seeing that he made a vid on the first one
This game is still the most impressive and addicting thing I’ve ever played, seriously I can’t even imagine the amount of effort and time Mason and Chuck put into making this, the fluid surreal yet beautiful claymation combined with the most bad ass (and my favorite) soundtrack to any game ever! I’ve been seeing Masons Twitter posts for the new game and I’m beyond hyped! Thank you Mason and Chuck.
This OST has honestly sold me on the game, whoever composed this soundtrack is an absolute master of chill jams and really understands what we all wanted (music wise) for a Hylics sequel. Has this guy done music for anything else? i would pay money to hear more from this guy/gal.
Oh hey, it’s me, the composer. Feel free me up on Instagram or in the official Hylics discord if you have any questions about my work. Thanks for listening!
The way the song is structured reminds me a bit of “Forgone Destruction” from Unreal Tournament ‘99, but mostly at the beginning with the guitar riffs.
I’ve been wondering for so long why the opening chords of this soundtrack sounds SO familiar and I finally realised today that it sounds similar to that one Ace Attorney Trial OST
I appreciate that! I love playing bass. It’s a secret passion of mine to one day be the bass player in a band. I’ve been stuck being the front man for so long!
i have to admit i did the hand motions more than once when i cast a gesture. something about the way they move really just bring out the inner wizard in you
I remember the first time I discovered hylics, n all this beautiful art. Never been the same and I’m so thankful for it. I’ve found so much comfort and inspiration in it I feel I’d never find anywhere else. Thank you so much
Listened to this on the way home from the aquarium. The whole way, I had the image of an amalgamation of ocean creatures: Lobster, Manta Ray, Cuttlefish, Anemone, Coral... The stuff. I had the image of such a creature sunbathing, occasionally drinking in the ocean water to hydrate itself.
The beginning of the song sounds like blood for me like entering an abandoned house and seeing hundred of dead bodies covered in blood and cutting your throat and its all a mess or a massacre. I know it seems weird but I don't think I'm the only one thinking bout that
I always disliked the jrpg custom of using super intense battle themes when the gameplay is slower than a sleepy turtle (?) but this is just so chill and relaxing, that I don't feel pressured to choose an option because I have all the time in the world. Love it.
The main riffs notes remind me a little of thousand knives by ryuichi sakamoto but the overall feeling of the song gives me this Allan Holdsworth meets early Beck Hansen vibe. Super awesome soundtrack dudes.
