im english and very proud. im also proud to say we got beat by a far superior welsh side on a good day and with their country behind them. i aint afraid to say it. we are english, we live to fight another day, we can't win all the time. i watch this all the time to listen to welsh anthem, gives me goosebumps every time... well done wales, you gave us a smashing!
this is for me the most beautiful national anthem i heard in my life. People of Wales be proud. I don't like rugby but this would be the main reason te visit an match..... goosbumps all over
The welsh anthem is my favourite to listen to during the 6 nations, especially when it's being belted out in Cardiff. Much respect for welsh rugby. From a grumpy English git. :-)
+mudpuddlestruck bylightning Calon Lan was written by a vicar from Morriston to rejoice upon hearing his son who he'd had to send to a sanitorium in Pembroke had been cured of his lung disease. The outskirts of Swansea at that time were one of the main copper smelting areas of the world-hence some remaining stacks and heavily polluted air at the time.Hen Wlad Fy Nhadau written and composed by the James family of Pontypridd has far more meaning as a National Anthem-though Calon Lan is certainly beautiful song!
II recalL this day like it were yesterday . The anthem trumped the game itself (which is quite extraordinary considering the result. The faces of the English fans half way through the anthem were looks of defeat, as if to say ''oh fxxk, game over''.... Incredible rendition.... I've revisited this after a few years and my gosh...The passion of the Welsh is quite something. Very very VERY special indeed. Goosebumps....The original edit is officially the most watched on you tube.
Amazing anthem, as soon as I heard the Welsh belt this out with the ferocity they did, I knew that they'd destroy England. As an Irish fan I was glad it happened to!
Thanks to hyamify....hope you know that after our own Welsh team we always turn to support the Irish team. Try as the Saxons do ..they will never split the bond we Celts have...they really would have little without us.
Hi Kasia, as my roots were in Wales i love the language and the anthem is the best ever,. I am a bit afraid of going on m own but would love to hear the anthem at the 6 nations cup neext year, Cymry am byth !
El himno más hermoso del mundo es el de gales no solo por su melodía increíble sino también por la pasión con la que lo cantan los Galeses. Desde Argentina mis respetos 👏 🙌 👍
It must be a bit depressing for them...the English sing their little clockwork dirge and then get a faceful of absolute pride and passion. There is something about "that's the way to do an anthem" about it. Best flag in the world (it's got a bloody great dragon on it)! and best anthem too.
+Français Intrépide You jest, surely? There are SO many national anthems I would put before France's...but the one quarter of me that is Welsh can't help feeling just a bit homesick when I hear this
I was there, I love going to the internationals at the millennium stadium. The Welsh make you so welcome... It does help when the Welsh stuff you though.
This is my problem with English rugby, there is no pride shown to have the red rose on your shirt and to sing the national anthem before representing your country. That's something the welsh, Irish & Scottish all have.
That's because we are English and anything the English do is deemed to be racist. So we stop at the National Anthem so as not to displease the rest of the world. PROUD TO BE ENGLISH!!!!
when you consider that England sing the British national anthem (do the english have one?), and almost everyone in the stadium was British, you would expect a better rendition than that.
Why does the French commentator introduce it with the English title 'Land of my father'(sic) @1.00 when it isn't sung in English? If he can't pronounce its proper title 'Hen Wlad Fy Nhadau' then he should consider just giving a straight French translation - something like 'Le pays du mes peres' (forgive my appalling French s'il vous plait).
OH it was all luck we english had a curry that night and wer not feeling well IN FACT LETS GET TO THE TRUTH our front row had a cup of tea before the match and the tea lady was very very rude and upset them , this along with an order of ill fitting shorts and the cancellation of emmerdale played a massive part in the defeat that day . im not bitter and im not twisted and not making excuses .
You have obviously never heard of Mudiad Amddiffyn Cymru. The Irish were rebelling for about 800 years. The IRA only came into existence, in the past 90 years.
Matt, Welsh children learn the Hen Wlad Fy Nhadau in the first year of school as well as their culture so if you do not know it that is your problem and you should be ashamed. All five of my children know it and 3 were born in Canada and 1 was only 18 months old and the other 5 mths old when we came here. All our grandchildren know the Welsh Anthem. It is called "keeping your Culture Alive." I think that you are sadly mistaken.
