This hack isn't really all that hard, with a few exceptions (the Phantoon fight in my experience was much tougher than this video makes it out to be...especially if you follow the more conventional path through the game and arrive there without the gravity suit and spazer, and the escape sequence can be devilishly hard if you don't know what to expect going into it...this video makes it seem much easier than it actually is...if you don't cheat and use external resources you run into a lot of blocked paths and the psychology of it can really freak you out when you are trying to figure out how the heck to get back to your ship.) I'm not a very good player and I got through it just fine with a few specific spots I mentioned above that tripped me up. Overall though I think this is a very balanced hack...the world is much more broad and spread out than the original game, but if you play / explore it naturally, it leads you to understand how it all fits together quite deeply (which helps you in the escape sequence) and also leads you to end up very powered up when you do encounter those tough bosses. When I played through it without external help, I found Phantoon to be toughest...but Kraid and Ridley were almost a joke. I think part of that was that after encountering Phantoon I explored more thoroughly so I was better-equipped when I met the later bosses. I highly recommend playing this hack; don't be intimidated, it is great fun! And if you follow the conventional path through the game there are some really golden elements to it that you won't see from this speed run. This run hugely alters the natural path through the world in ways that I think makes it seem a lot harder than it actually is.
I need this game in my life. I had Super Metroid on snes. It blew my mind. When I was in grade school I watched my neighbor do a complete play through of the original Metroid and my life has never been the same
Whoever made Super Metroid Redesign, I hope they don't make anything like that ever again. Redesign is one of the more sadistic ones other than Impossible.
Yes, Metroid Redesign's Escape Is the worst. For those who let the metroid catch you It's like game over.. unless you make It to the energy recharge. [I think you also needed to have all energy tanks to make It...]
Your run was outstanding, mind blown. Wow! That romhack looks amazing, just played through AM2R and thought I would see what other brilliant fan games I had been missing out on. I assume this is on an emulator, can you overclock it at all to fix the framerate during excessive load? should you?

This was an interesting path through the game. It's amazing what you can achieve with IBJ; I used that technique a bit but not as heavily as you did. Getting the Spazer early is clever and seems to make a huge difference in the boss battles. When I played this through for the first time, I confronted Phantoon first and had a much tougher time than you did, even having a lot more ammo than you, and I think lacking the spazer may have been a main cause...you always run out of ammo in that fight and having a beam that does more damage greatly shortens the fight. I also had a tough time with the puzzle room utilizing the speed booster, at 46:53. It took me a long time to figure it out but I think there's a faster / more effective way to get through it than you used, especially on that top level. Instead of shinesparking, try getting up to the high speed, then jump, use the space jump to maintain the speed boost effect...you can then slow down in the air, as long as you don't hit the wall you'll keep the effect and be able to plow through the blocks. It's tricky but with practice you can get through all the blocks in one burst. The other speed boost gate rooms (like at 51:29) you execute much more gracefully than I did. I still think you could make that room in one go though if you practice it. This was a good speed run but it is obviously not as refined as some of the top super metroid speed runs for the main (unhacked) game. There are a lot of small flubs in this that could shave off considerable amounts of time if you were to practice this enough. Good job though, I enjoyed watching this!
I did already with every endings ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) The one I would recomend *less* Is Super Metroid Redesign... unless you use save state and conveniently gets screw attack asap ;)
Does anyone know how much health Ridley has in Hyper Metroid? How many shots of Ice+Wave+Spazer does he take to defeat? After being shot with 17 super missiles how much Ice+Wave+Spazer shots is he supposed to take?
Just wondering, how hard is it to make complete new game like this? How long does it takes, to make sure everything is in its right place etc? Item positioning etc? Impressive job done here, and no I dont mean this run. But its awesome too. :)
The sound effect choices really bug me. Why beam sounds for bomb explosions? Why an explosion sound when walljumping? Things that should be making noise are silent and things that do make noise tend to make the "wrong" noise, it's really off-putting to me.
+DarkStreifer The difficulty was designed to be for all skill levels of players, although if you are going to sequence break, things are going to do a ton of damage. As far as playing as intended, you may get lost somewhere in the map finding upgrades. :P
normally people start by turning the console on ;)now with that silliness out of the way, it takes a lot of work and (for lack of a better term) devotion to the game you want to speedrun. it also helps that you choose a game that easily lends itself to doing speedruns as Super Metroid does very well

So if I wanna play this on my pc what's exactly what i need besides the SNES emulator? Do i need an specific emulator or anyone does the trick? There are two download links for the patch...which one should I pick?
+cyberdemonII You want to be able to open .rar files to get a .ips patch, I use 7-zip to uncompress the patch. You want to be able to apply .ips files to patch games, I use LunarIPS. And any SNES emulator should do, I use snes9x. You should get the unheadered version and apply the .ips patch to a Super Metroid rom to create a playable Hyper Metroid game!
I think super metroid is probably still my number 1. After all these years. I've literally loved it since i bought it on the SNES back in the day! The mechanics, the secrets/secret moves, the game balance, all the cool references to the original on the NES: I don't think there'd really seen anything like it at the time. It's pretty timeless to be honest. That people are willing to mod it is testament to that I think.
i always wanted to make a super metroid rom hack. but it was hard to find good software for it, and even when i did there are no tutorials on it. does anyone know of a super metroid rom hacking software with a good beginners tutorial?
Sorry dude, it's dat files all the way really. Even the GUI tool you mention is really just a kind of helper; It'd take a lot of time and hex editing to get something like the hack above up and running.
lincoln pepper, so to set things like where one room connects to another etc. you'd have to reassign an existing memory address in the dat. it gets pretty difficult pretty quickly!
+RedShirtGuy96 It uses something called Project Base, I think it modifies the way Samus can do things. Things like speed boost, jumping, landing, shooting, some effects like in 22:45, a bunch of things really. New map, 'story', bosses are modified. The biggest thing though is this gate system they have. In order to fight Mother Brain, you have to unlock 15 gates that are scattered around the map, instead of defeating all the bosses to enter Tourian.

Mauricio José Osuna It was an RAR file I had to unzip first, then it becomes an IPS File THEN I can use the program to install the patch. Unfortunatly I had to unzip using WinZip so that might be a problem. But don't worry I found the difference between the unheadered and the headered patch I'm playing this game now it's like Metroid in the Mirror Universe.
