I thought of a interesting marketing strategy some AV company could have used. The strategy is when the purchased license it out, you get a year free if you had no virus during the year. And lets say if you have 50 viruses you have to pay normal, but less viruses decreases the price for the next year. I'm not sure it would work, but who isn't tempted to get free stuff or lower prices?
