I have personally experienced this phenomena. I had two cornrow extensions in my natural hair for about three weeks and I got no love from the dudes. I love to go between natural and hair weaves cause that's my thing. As soon as I removed my braids and put in the hair of indian descent I was getting 'oh baby God bless you" before I even made it back home from the salon. i even posted it on my FB page as it is frustrating. The truth of the matter is men prefer long hair. Preferably straight hair. I don't make those rules but have observed them. The other thing I noticed is that men especially white men in NYC go crazy over locs. I had faux locs last summer and I never expected to get so many compliments from white dudes. Mind you black men are my preference. So if you are on the fence of wearing weaves rock the marley locs or faux locs make sure they are long cause the tiny little afros don't excite their peckers. I hate to be the bearer of bad news but it's true.

Danielle Gates. I KNOW blk ladies can/do grow their beautiful hair very long. Styling the hair is what matters (I am a wht woman with a blk bff and know her gorgeous hair very well which she switches up...lately she has it in braids and her hair is to her bra strap "natural" and she is not "mixed"). Not sure men are "programmed" about hair tho- What I can say is everyone is attracted to a healthy person with good hygiene. A woman does not NEED long false nails, etc. A nice clean groomed appearance is best across the board.

Im gonna drop some late ass dimes on you ladies. I have a man who is amazing and he is attracted to me because I radiate positive beautiful energy. On top of that I’m girly and he loves my hair. Curly or straight he likes that I can do both. He buys me clothes, bags, and makeup because he wants me to stay pretty and loves that I do it. He never tells me I don’t need makeup although he loves my skin and how clear it is. I’m always sweet and respectful and hardly curse. You need to get rid of those rough edges ladies. That’s the biggest part of this whole thing. Don’t get caught up on hair ladies do whatever makes you stand out the most and accentuates your beauty. I love a low natural pony because it’s elegant, easy (let’s be real here we have to have an emergency style) and shows off my face. Also know that your personality (flirty but innocent and subtly sexy) your best bet. Also stand with your back straight correct that posture. It makes you look skinnier and you demand a certain level of respect.

In my experience, black men are the only men who are not attracted to my kinks and curls and I think it’s because it doesn’t “look “ long, they are attracted to it if it is. On the other hand, I get all sorts of attention from every other race when my hair is kinky curly. You don’t need to straighten your hair, you need to have healthy hair, it’s a sign that you are healthy and will be able to reproduce, that is what they are biologically responding to.

I feel like one thing black women don’t realize is how naturally beautiful our figures are. So many have that beautiful hourglass or even pear shape. A lot of black women I’ve seen could benefit from losing about 20+ pounds. Men like flat stomachs. Point blank period. Lose it. It’s something I’ve been working on. Black people tend to build muscle easier which helps with toning up and fat loss. Switch up your diet. Hit the gym. Get you a man. Simple.

I'm a black girl with very kinky, short 4c hair. I refuse to straighten my hair or wear weave just for men. If they are not gonna be attracted to me for something I naturally am then that's okay. I love my hair and it's very important for me, coz I believe as an African (Namibian) woman it helps me truly honor my ancestors and truly demonstrate that I'm proud of my race. Plus, I actually get alot of guys attracted to me and even they like to tell me that I literally look like a flower with my afro. So please do not speak for all men, as there are many who love natural hair too. But even if they didn't, I would never go against who I truly am just for them. I'm not that desperate!

That scene is an example of “programming”. It is a scene that has been repeated in thousands of movies ie, makeover a woman by straightening her hair (in addition to makeup, dress, heels etc. ). That makes it difficult to discern true preference versus conditioning. As you become more aware of the (often insidious and damaging) it becomes more difficult to just fall in line and do certain things to attract men, even if you observe and know that empirically it is true that more men will “see” you. Some women struggle with being “seen” through a programmed lens.

Chew the meat, and spit out the bones. If you disagree about the hair opinion, that’s fine. Don’t discount the whole video over one disagreement. I went natural in the 90’s. I have done experiments and can tell you I get more attention when I flat iron my hair because you can actually see its length. Because of my shrinkage, it can look very short and easily mats. It’s not that natural hair is bad. But because of its nature to coil it looks very short and short hair can be seen as masculine.

@@sarahs.archives When saying men like straight hair she was actually referring to the same thing you were referring to, most men have these toxic mentalities that straight hair is better. Also, I think why it’s recommended to have straight wigs, weaves, etc, is that it’s easier to keep it looking taken care of. The key of grooming is to always look properly put together. It is much harder to keep our natural hair put together bc it always has a mind of its own lol. I recommend all black women to take time to practice and learn how to style their natural hair in a way that allows them to still look out together.

I just wanna say something real quick regarding natural hair: The Most High gave each race their own distinct kind of hair. Black womens natural hair is absolutely gorgeous. Think about it, creation begins in spirals. It’s no mystery that He designed our hair the same way-it defines gravity for Pete’s sake! Black women should not have to alter or assimilate their hair to please ANYONE. People who equate straight hair with feminity like the video uploader are clearly brainwashed by western ideologies. It’s gotta stop. No other races of women are changing the texture of their hair like black women are. Why is that? When our hair is the most versatile and creative type of hair in existence! A lot of black men actually PREFER black women to wear their natural hair and natural faces (minimal or no makeup) so why diminish our beauty and say that we must conform to Caucasian aesthetics to attract a man? It’s backwards as hell. Black women, take pride in your natural hair because it is beautiful and God knew what He was doing when He designed your crown that way.

I agree with what you're saying 100% but from my experience, you can't listen to what men say they prefer. You have to go by what they do and respond to. Black men often say they prefer "natural" hair but the "natural" hair they are referring to is any in the type 3 category, they just don't have the vocabulary to express that. My response to this is to wear "natural" textured wigs/extensions. Of course there are exceptions to the rule but I've noticed that my natural textured wigs attracts more "pro black" men than my 4b curls/fro. When you want to win at anything in life you have to play the game how it goes and leave your emotions on the sideline. Think of using your appearance as bait instead of a statement.

Exactly. Hair does not by any means have to be straight to look its best. Hair needs to be clean, smell good and be properly styled whatever the texture. Saying that straight hair is better or should be the norm is like automatically agreeing with the "good hair/bad hair" thing and that's completely wrong, most blacks do not have straight hair. I say, hair that is well taken care off will always look amazing not matter the texture. Anyways, yes, you're totally right.

I like wearing my natural hair but when I went “sugar daddy searching” I had my 22 inch Brazilian weave, a cute dress and was always polite and friendly and within a month of searching I found my sd. I think curly hair can look very youthful and feminine because it’s voluminous. It’s easier for straight hair to look long because your hair is at its longest when it’s straight. Straight hair can also look limp and flat though but when it’s long it looks thicker and comes across like the women is fertile. With natural hair having your have shaped into a style that makes you look soft, sweet and feminine is what’s important. I personally don’t think straight hair looks good on a lot of women because it can make someone head look big and masculine depending on her features. No matter the texture just let your hair be a sign of how well you take care of yourself. I’ve seen black women with natural hair that makes a mans knees go weak. Really your skin, hair presentation is just a sign of how you take care of yourself and how you want to be treated.

I love how you mentioned the emphasis on taking care of yourself above all. Because that energy does translate, I personally have been in my masculine energy most of my life due to my upbringing & life, however one thing I never have let go of, was taking care of myself. I felt this need to always be on top of that, and not because of men but because of myself, I wanted to look & feel good so I actually prioritized that even over work sometimes lol but glad it counts cause now I know when dating high value men, it matters to them. Also wanted to share that you can be smart & driven & also be feminine, I’ve come to realize that even though as women we know deep down that we are smarter than men, and we can handle more than men, even though we are capable, we thrive better in our femininity & allowing men to handle things. I’m really practicing on letting go of being in control & allowing, it’s been a challenge but that’s because I’m making changes 😊
