We talk about why pre-acclimitization with normabaric hypoxic generators makes sense for high-altitude mountaineering above 5,000 meters or 16,000 fee for people who have jobs. Most of the folks that can attempt high-alitude summits live far below 8,000 feet or 2,500 meters and have to acclimatize for weeks to attempt Aconcagua 6961 meters or 22,837 feet or months to attempt Mount Everest. The Jay-10H and other similar hypoxic generators can simulate oxygen deprivation up to over 21,000 feet or 6,500 meters, higher than the highest camp on Aconcagua, Everest Base Camp, or Everest Camp 1.
You can buy the hypoxic generator, mask, bag, and tents at half the price of U.S. companies (inclusive of express shipping) by buying the generator on Aliexpress or Alibabba. I bought from the Chinese distributor Donguan Medjoy Medical Technology Co., Ltd. and found their text customer support to be excellent. Logfian is the manufacturer.

Your blood ox % should fall while in the tent or on the mask and your pulse rate should rise. Pulse ox meters are key to measuring the effectiveness of simulated altitude training.
acclimatization stimulates the production of red blood cells and reduces the risks of developing symptoms of acute mountain sickness (AMS) on your ascent of a high to extreme altitude peak. AMS symptoms are headache, nausea, shortness of breath, difficulty breathing, and dizziness. More sever AMS are high altitude pulmonary edema (HAPE) and high altitude cerebral edema (HACE) which can be life threatening if the climber cannot descend quickly.
We translate the settings into simulated altitude and suggest an acclimitization plan. This IS NOT medical or exercise advice. These are just the opinions of someone who has NO medical or exercise training. You should consult a physician and do your own readings of the academic research. Two studies we liked were

You are missing the point. Being able to sit at a computer or sleep and tolerate hypoxia is one thing but the real test and risk factor for HACE is the combination of exercising while hypoxic and at a low barometric pressure. The sPO2 will fall drastically during exercise.

My reading of the literature is that long endurance on a hypoxic generator does not help. Long periods (7+ hours) per day over multiple weeks will help reduce AMS risks and may facilitate more rapid ascents. The most fit are the most at risk of AMS (probably because they can ascend faster than they can acclimitize). Sleep high train low is the preferred strategy for long endurance that is supported by the literature. When you have the time to be on a mountain (10k+ feet) then switch to climb high and sleep low. Climbing high in CO will not acclimatize you for Aconcagua or Everest BC or BC of most of Ecuador’s biggest volcanos.
