Thank you so much OP. You are simply amazing. My cruise control stopped working all together today and I didn't know what to do because I know dealerships are going to charge me a ton for this at which point I saw this video and fixed it.

Listening to this while driving down the highway....don't worry I'm being safe! I have a friend helping! I simply peeled back the top portion of the airbag just a little bit to see if that would relieve some pressure on that harness and my cruise control started working again! Must be exactly like what you said. The way the wiring is shoved in there it's pushing down on the harness causing a bad connection! Thank you so much for the research!

Thank you, thank you! This worked beautifully for me. The whole fix took about 10 minutes. The only thing I did differently was to spray the connections with contact cleaner. I also took the time to log my radio settings before I disconnected the battery, but when I reconnected it, everything was there including my phone numbers.

I was looking for replacement switches for my car and stumbled across this post. This was my problem as well, I sprayed some contact cleaner in the socket and in the plug and pushed it in and out a few times. I also had problems with the audio controls and now they work. Thank-you for this post

hey thanks for the idea of the contact cleaner, I will do that as well, mine has not been working for a while now and the dealer will not touch it without charging me !

Thanks for posting. What was irritating me is now fixed! I had just taken the actual rocker switch itself out, hoping to see an obvious issue there. No such luck. I was sitting, pondering, muttering under my breath and decided to Google and viola! I found your post. I did have to do a little research as I have the "i45", which the Sonata changed it's name to in Australia in 2010. Nevertheless, from start (me deciding to try and fix the problem and taking the actual switch apart as mentioned) to sitting here with the job completed and feeling good took under 30 minutes! I will consider buying conductive grease as per your update of Jan 2016.

Did the trick for me. Great video. I was just about to look for cold solder joints on the switches when I found your video... What an EASY fix! Bent the wires down and to the right. I keep a nail in the car so I can get back in if need be. THANKS! HB

Hey thanks for this. I took the airbag out and sure enough the connector was not seating properly. 2 minutes, some contact cleaner and dielectric grease later everything works great.

My 2013 Hyundai Veloster just started experiencing the same exact problem. Thank you for the video. I'll give it a try and see if it corrects the problem on my Veloster.

Thank you very much for the demonstration. After checking the Hyundai Sonata 2011 manual at AllData DIY, I think that the connect you show is the general one (uniting all the commands on the wheel). The specific cruise-control connector is buried deeper - the steering wheel needs to be removed (doesn't look that difficult) and then remove the cover and access that connector. I will try to clean up/reconnect this connector and if it doesn't help (or it is temporary), I plan to dig a little bit more. Once the specific cruise control switch is removed, what can be done is measure the resistance (between pin 3-4 with the specific function button depressed): Cancel: 180 ohms (+/-5% - all values) Set: 330 ohms Res: 550 ohms ON/OFF: 880 ohms Further investigation calls for measuring the voltage, which should be measuring it between the same pins (3-4 - counting with the latch on the upper side, left to right) - the connector is connected this time and, I assume, the battery is also connected: Cancel: 0.76V (+/- 0.1V) Set: 1.24V (+/- 0.15V) Res: 1.77V (+/- 0.2V) On/Off: 2.34V (+/- 0.22V)

I have a 2013 Hyundai Santa Fe. The left side of the controls started to act weird and suddenly they stopped working. Following the instructions here I was able to fix them. The steering wheel is a bit different than the one in this video (the whole at bottom is missing) bet everything else seems the same. Thanks a lot!

UPDATE: So in January of this year (2016) I finally got all the other stuff that happens in my life shoved out of the way far enough to go back into the steering wheel One More Time! Again I pulled the little plug out that shows at about time 4:10 in the video. This time I unwound the wiring so the stress/strain would be removed off it and I also put some electrically CONDUCTIVE grease on those little pins. You may have to search around a bit to buy some electrically CONDUCTIVE grease. You DON'T want dielectric grease which is non-conductive. Once I did those 2 things & put it back together, it has again worked flawlessly every push of the buttons for around a month now. I'm still convinced this connector in conjunction with the flawed design of such low voltage signals to the cruise controller is the problem. And NOW the sun roof will open, and won't CLOSE, but that's another story.

º The fix I demonstrated in the video lasted exactly 3 months until the weather started warming up which probably caused expansion & contraction in the connector. I haven't yet had the time or inclination to go back in again to try either electrical grease or to tighten up the connector pins in some way. Instead,as I found advised elsewhere on the 'net, when it happens again now and again I just tap on the top of the air bag similar to like I'm beeping the horn & it seems to cause the connector to connect & the cruise works again. Ridiculous, but short-term effective for now. º My Sonata does not have a steering issue.

This might help 2011-2014 Elantra too. But all I did was single my horn around and (honked) I didnt need to disconnect my horn. And Trip, Reset works totally fine and I'm in ECO so will test in morning cause I am low on FUEL bout 25 so enough to get home on city streets. :)

Thanks for this. I have steering wheel audio control issues with my 2010 Kia Sorento. The factory instructions say to leave airbag after disconnecting neg battery for at least 3 mins before disconnecting. Only really an issue if there is any electrical signal fluctuation to the airbag and i noticed you didn't disconnect anyway.

HI, great video. FYI I have the exact same car (in grey) Sonata GLS model. Had the EXACTLY same problem as your car with the cruise control. I was so tired of the buttons working only 50% of the time. Warranty is still in effect. The dealer changed the buttons from the cruise control on the steering wheel. It's been 2 weeks now...and everything works perfectly. Except...the button they changed is lighter than the one on the left side of my steering wheel. It does bother me a little..but!

Just fixed my cruise control using the steps in this video. Takes maybe a minute to do it. I will say that I did it first and my cruise started working when I turned my car on. However, about an hour later when I turned my car back on it had stopped working. Re-did the steps and it started working again. Any idea how to make this a permanent fix?? Also, for other viewers info, I did these steps while my car was on and had no issues with the airbag or anything. I found that you don’t have to disconnect the battery.
