You're forgetting one important thing. The EQA starts about the same as the Ioniq 5 in money, BUT there's virtually nothing included in the base price for the EQA. You have to spec it up with optionals, so add another 10-15K. Meanwhile, on the Ioniq 5, you get almost all optionals in that base price. So in the end, the EQA is FAR more expensive than the Ioniq 5.
I've had to deal with Mercedes electronics for years in my SLK and can't imagine a car being entirely dependent upon them. I'll take the Hyundai, thank you.
llllllllllll ignorance read more real science, what goes into electric cars, more environment poison than the internal combustion engine. this all electric car all government scam is a real people and env. killer. the internal combustion engine is , renewable, clean and good for env, can run on seaweed old cooking oil, human and animal waste, methane from any waste. stop wasting time / money on neutralizing human shit. make methane , small cheap attachment to gas/ diesel engine and you have fuel., all world govs know this they count on your ignorance ' world govs scams...........cov-2, renewable energy. climate change , READ MORE; life on earth needs co2 renewable energy is what ''life'' does for 3.8 billion years/ climates always change, land masses move around climates change.
I’ve had a GLE for some time. I can’t imagine how tight the space must be in an EQA. Would never consider one. I think the Ioniq 5 would be better compared to a eqb or eqe.
In comparison, that EQA looks like it's from another century when alongside the Hyundai Ionic 5 and as mentioned earlier, the very fact a Hyundai is being compared to a Mercedes show's progress. Wow, how the "mighty" have fallen.
I see the Mercedes on the road and I just think 'meh'. I see the Hyundai and I say 'wow'!! Add in better range, better charging, better practicality and probably better reliability and it's an easy win for the Hyundai for me 👍.
Great review, our electric car arrives in January and after test driving quite a few inluding VW, Tesla, Mercedes, Kia and Hyundai, we chose the Ioniq 5, reason, it just works best for our family.
Hyundai might not be a premium brand but it's certainly a better car than the Mercedes. I'll let the ones who need to keep up with Joneses buy the Mercedes.
It all comes down to road quality, as well - here in Canada they get really bad after a long winter, so I'd much rather a the 'soft' Hyundai vs the 'firm' Merc or Tesla Y. A lot of Tesla Y owners are complaining about their ride quality because it's too firm for a SUV for our crappy roads.
I don't quite understand why you reviewed the AMG Mercedes vs a I lower spec Ioniq 5. Why not against the higher spec Ioniq 5 with the leather interior and heated/ventilated seats and tech package?
HAD MY IONIQ 5. , for 2Mounths now . MUCH MUCH. BRIGHTER & smoother. Than the other,S Test drove. The. Audi, mustang , mercury , & VW. THE. HYUNDI. WON. HANDS DOWN. . The. Most comfortable Car OF ALL . THE EV,S
Isn't the Genesis GV60 supposed to go up against the Mercedes. The Ioniq 5 doesn't have to handle well. If you want better handling get the Kia Ev6. If you want a firmer, more controlled ride, get the EV6. The Mercedes is more premium but I still see that piano black surface on it around the vents.
I liked your review. I have Ionic 5 for past 3 months now. And I absolutely love it. It is so comfy, fast, spacious, luxurious, quite and has all the features which a car must have. After adding the premium tech pack it feels like a premium luxury car.
Our ioniq 5 is coming next week. Really looking forward to it. Did yours come with automatic door handles? I saw some rumors some did not get them because of the chip shortage
Ioniq 5 destroys the Mercedes, also it is clearly in at least one class above, should be compared with EQB size wise. Also, are MB selling a 9 seconds electric car? You must be crazy to spend money on something like that. Hyundai and Kia are now competing with Tesla on the EV side, especially with the 4wd 305HP engines, MB has a lot to catch up.
It makes absolutely no sense to have a 9 second electric car. If Tesla can produce a vehicle with better range, that also gets to 60 in under 4 seconds, all whilst being a similar price. Then there is no excuses for MB. Buying the MB over the Hyundai would be nothing more than nonsensical and a decision based off of public perception and wanting people to know you have money.
Baffles me that many speak of warranty but most will get a new car just cause the neighbour got a new car two weeks ago. In honesty most cars are sold through lease and most company cars will be renewed after 3-5 years so anything topping a 5-year warranty means nada in the real world.
@@IwillBwaiting You may be right... in the UK. However, you do realise that it's the www, don't you? You know, the first 2 "w"s mean "World Wide"? I certainly don't live in your sceptered (or should that be septic?) isle, and most people buy their cars by other means where I live. But hey ho! hardly surprising that a Briton would ignore the RoW.
@@IwillBwaiting I will be buying the I5 outright. It might be last new car I buy and I will probably still be driving it into retirement. So warranty is clearly important.
What about highway driving assistance, like land keep assist, adaptive cruise, and automatic lane change. I believe those are all standard in base ionic 5, are they included in the base Mercedes?
Hyundai is the better car. Simple as that. In EVERY aspect. Acceleration : better, Top speed: MUCH better (185 vs 160), Charging speed: faster, Range: better, Space: better, Equipment: better (sorry, I don't like paying 20k for options that come standard in others), Build quality; better (5 years warranty, proven electronics record form Ioniq / Kona), Design: much better. In any case ppl vote with their pockets and the fact that many Mercs are in stock and the Ioniq 5 has a 12 month waiting time says a lot.
I drive an E class at the minute but to get a similar spec you’ll have to throw 10k at the EQA compared to the Ioniq 5 ,Hyundai all day for me on this one….👍
I think I'd be waiting for the EQB if I were to be going full EV merc. Sat quietly doing PHEV fully electric shorter journeys (35miles) for now while the infrastructure really gets adequate. 👌 ps I NEVER charge at public stations I think these should be EV only.
When I see an EQA I barely notice it and think badge snob with more money than sense. When see an Ioniq 5 I do a double take and think, there's the future, right there, smart driver.
I didn't get what the Mercedes advantages are? Materials? 0 to 60 for 9 seconds? 60% of the Hyundai's boot? Charging speed, the range? The warranty? The online updates? Feeling of the materials, the design and the driving comfort are purely subjective. Hyundai is ages ahead 😉
The awd top spec ioniq 5 is in my view a better car than a similarly equipped merc eqc, let alone the eqa. Having tested both the 5 and the c, which are effectively the same size internally maybe with a slight edge to the 5, l have ordered the hyundai to replace my current glc 43, and do not feel at all that l am going downmarket. The posh German marques are asking ludicrous money for electric cars that do not remotely justify a significant premium, typically 35 to 40 percent, as opposed to perhaps 15% which might be sustainable.
I reaaally don’t get the hype over Ioniq 5. I test drove it and it felt sooo cheap and plastic! And it looks cool in pics, in real life just cheap. Test drove the EQA and fell in looove. So ordered it:) proves you really have to test it out for yourself
For those who select the EQA, it is simply because they really want a car that performs well in high speeds for long distance drive, and want a feel like they are more secure, the meaning of that feel is called a state of great comfort or elegance. You cant get it from a budget brand. And also if you are not a perfectionist then you have a different opinion. I feel like this after watching this video.
This review is more accurately "Hyundai Ioniq 5" vs. "Mercedes GLAe" and guess what, as a pure electric car the Ioniq 5 is better than the converted GLA. "EQ" was going to be Mercedes wonderful new electric sub-brand, but they've got scared and messed up the branding which might hurt them for a decade even though Merc pure electric cars are likely to be very good. Not that it matters, but IMHO the angular side panels of the Ionic 5 look cool today but they'll date really fast.
I just dont think the interior and exterior of the IONIQ 5 match with each other. Exterior is really funky and purposefully adding styling details, but the interior is all really minimalist and meh.. I mean what's with the white bezels on the infotainment screens 🤮. Exterior of Ioniq 5 with interior of KIA EV6 = 👍👍👍
THE INTERIOR. OF THE. EV6. IS. JUST BLAND & DARK. With. Blind. Spots. A big. A. Post. Obscuring. You view ,, Also. IT. LOOKS. LIKE. ALL THE OTHER. JELLY. MOULD. CARS . .
You didn't mention that Merc want £1500 for adaptive cruise that everyone else puts in as standard. Having tested one I'm also sceptical of their range and efficiency claims. It's definitely less efficient than my Niro while claiming to be better (250+ I tested).
An interesting review this. Clear and to the point without bias with terms that we can relate to like the Mercedes has a little more 'fizz' to its driving but also making it clear that the Hyundai is still good for an EV of its type. For pure range and heading towards the winter if I 'had' to choose between the two it would be the Hyundai. It also has more space as you say. The Mercedes may be more of a drivers car as far as an EV goes but with all the traffic around on most of my drives I would rarely get to enjoy it although I do love that interior that when stuck in traffic I could admire.
Only part I found strange was the fact that from this review the Hyundai has a better range, space, practicality, charging speeds, far better standard equipment and is cheaper. The MB drives slightly better and has a more premium interior. But then at the end they said they 'would heartily recommend the EQA but the ioniq 5 is a revolution' Its almost like saying 'This car is far better in nearly every single way, but it doesn't have the Mercedes badge, so Ill take the car that does'
Really good comparison. Well done! I just want to ask about the lack of rear wiper of the ioniq5 vs. The Merc. Especially in rainy climate in the UK. It would bug me if I can’t wipe the rear window. What’s your experience with this during the comparison? I think Hyundai dropped the ball on this issue.
Use your wing mirrors mate, like vans and trucks do...and people who load up their cars on holiday... Also the Ionic5 has blind spot warnings. Don't need your rear view mirror. Its old school...
Mercedes is not luxury unless you want to spend over $100k+. German luxury cars have fallen far since the 80’s, while Korean cars have risen stratospherically since then.
In the ''looks'' department, the Ioniq 5 wins for me, but please buy local aka European. The ''small'' difference in price which you might gain now over a Euro-car, will make that your children or grandchildren have to pay it back with interest. Good review.
Answer is the Ioniq 5, but even after giving all the most important point in favour of the Hyundai they then said they'd recommend the EQA, mindboggling.
first of all iam very impressed of her review. she did an amazing job here! As much as i love the concept of the ioniq 5, i rly like the whole idea about it, its way to expensive. it just makes no sens to me spend nearly the same amount of money for a lot less quality feeling. And im not saying the ioniq 5 is low qual, its just the merc is right now so far ahead in terms of the interior. its not only about the physical quality, but merc did an unbelivable job in terms of logical placement of buttons and their function that driving a merc feels like going for a n1 walk.
I'd choose the ioniq 5 over the Mercedes any day looks way better and is cool retro and futuristic at the same time, good job Hyundai, Kia and Hyundai are making some amazing EVs now Koreans have nailed it, I'd choose a Korean ev anyday once my PCP for my Kia Sportage is finished 👌👍
Honestly think she is getting sponsored with mercedes when you push the iconic5 its saftey systems brings it straight when it slides plus the 4wd i have goes to sixty from stand still in 4.5 seconds
Mercedes lost it's magic for me many year ago. Once they merged with Chrysler I gave up on Mercedes! Ionic 5 all day... Mercedes is for people who don't mind wasting their money!
Mercedes Benz is no longer a premium brand. Too many quality/reliability issues. Hyundai is far superior. Forget brand snobbery it is about the quality/performance customer service and reliability. Mercedes reliability is not great neither is its customer service.
Think most would take the Hyundai over the Merc, unless they're badge snobs...but at least the Hyundai LOOKS like a electric car, something that looks from the future, which surely is the point of an electric car, it just looks better than the normal looking mercedes which just looks like a normal car, from the outside anyway,
Ionic 5 excerlent looking car ! Would get one untill i saw the driver's seat control panel layout and displays. Dam Awfull ! shame tho , the rest is amazing !
I have looked at the review s on the loniq 5 and I and sorry to say u are only person in the world to give it thumbs down on certain things. I am sorry to say u came across as merc sales person. See you next time
With both around the same price , looking at the features, the Mers wins easily against most if not all within the same price though the VW id4 and Enyaq will offer decent value as well.
Cars are about more than their features though. Hyundai have managed to make something sensible and more practical lustful at the same time. It looks genuinely exotic whereas for me the design of the Merc doesn't really work. That 'grille doesn't fit the GLA shape.
If the payments for these two are similar, I would go for the Mercedes. I do not like the fact that the Hyundai Ioniq 5 comes with cloth seats in this price range.
@@zachviles138 maybe. But once you have enough money and more to own a merc, even multiple s classes, u begin to look at your peers driving expensive luxury cars and think - what a waste.
@@rivergladesgardenrailroad8834 Absolutely not wrong it takes many miles before an ev outweighs the initial carbon footprint of ice also mining for lithium and cobalt plus other materials is certainly not environmentally friendly or people friendly in those countries there is far less choice with ev's especially at an affordable level certainly where I live in the north of UK infrastructure is very poor so are average wages making ev ownership for ordinary working folk unachievable, yes they have a place in transport but so does ice and certainly hydrogen
@@phimtay8755 Well for starters the minerals cobalt and lithium are certainly not environmentally friendly ev's are no silver bullit I'm afraid, yes they have a place in transport but so do many other firms that includes fossil fuels there's no way everyone will be running an ev other than an outright ban which will not happen anytime soon it would put millions out of work and the poorer in society out of transport
Good call wow it does doesnt it minus the rust and shoddy bl build quality. I was considering one of these after my pcp ends on my dreary a4 next year. Wasnt the maestro supposed to be forward looking back in the day with its talking dash 🤣🤣
