FPS performance and latency with higher FPS is a specific case - you get lower latency with higher FPS and higher HZ, but to a point. That point is GPU load - so in order to get higher FPS you need more GPU processing and at a certain point, every GPU max out at 99% load which in turn give you large spike of latency. So you might rise FPS to have smoother experience and lower latency, but when you hit that ceiling from time to time because you might be at 90-95% load at 240, but at certain map geometry you hit 99% and feel weird about the settings. To prove it's not that and game engine - you need constant monitoring and logging of gpu load and fps. There is possibility that it's poorly coded game engine (physics change with different fps) - but also it might be due to system latency, gpu/cpu latency, monitor latency (overdriven hz introduce some latency) or even sometimes - network latency.
@@4rrivederc1 yes but still - better not to overload your gpu because of temps and voltage too - gpu clock may change to protect throttling and it intoduces stutters at times
Excellent comment! …you mean fps spikes with different geometry/physics/effects… that’s why I run at lower fps locked, but have my gpu never spiking in any conditions… having second monitoring running definitely helps to understand how the gpu behaves and figure out the optimal setting 😊
If you're interested in hz, fps, inputy lag - better visit channel 'Battle(non)sense' for more scientific explainations than 'feels good, easier to aim' ;) As he might not be wrong here this is not the best approach.
Late reply. But it's actual truth that frames makes games on Id Tech engine different. Example Doom Eternal, doom slayer is faster on 200+ fps, especially on meathook etc. Might be same exact thing with QC.
Just play 250 fps and max hz and match ur network settings to it. Im playing 125 fps cuz i want it to be stable, and being able to have the same fps across multiple games
Any quake pro ever tried to play cs or valorant or even grind it for a while? Btw i would love to see aimstars like ScreaM try quake or woxic cuz he is playing on very high sens and would transfer good for quake
Not hopeless at all. I used to play at 77hz on my old monitor and to be honest I can't really say my game improved THAT much after switching to a 144hz monitor. Better and smoother for sure but nothing super dramatic in terms of improved results. I've also watched some Twitch streamers playing at 60hz who were doing quite well.
I play just fine at 75hz...not the best player, but I still have plenty matches where I have the highest score / most damage. And I am still able to hit blind rail flicks and whatnot.
I went from 60 to 144 hz last year and it was a HUGE fucking difference, absolutely massive. I think you should try to upgrade if it's economically reasonable for you and you are invested in improving your abilities.
this would never be necessary if the incompetent developers used a decent engine like doom engine ffs ur killing the franchise, quakelive runs much better and beautiful
Moral of the story - The game becomes pay to win if you want to be competitive at all and I'm not talking about pro league. Even mediocre players will roast you with high power systems these days. It's to the point now to where if you don't have a $3,000 cpu with a high-end mouse, keyboard, and monitor that can flatline 240 hz, you're going to get roasted. Most pro leaguers seem to be playing right around 400 fps these days.
under this logic, car racing is "pay to win". that simply isnt the case. if you want to compete professionally, you show up professionally. you dont bring a street car (low end pc) to a drag race (competitive quake, or anything).
@@use0fweapons What are you even saying? You say car racing isn't "pay to win" and then you say you don't bring a low end car (pc) to a drag race. Well doesn't it cost more money to buy a faster car?
the first "pro" in quake was a guy who was one of the first to get very fast internet, it happened because he was born at this place, nothing related with bringing a car or whatever to a race contest. He could see everything before the others. That's how he rekt everyone for few month. And the first "pro" in starcraft was a korean guy with one of slowest internet back then, so slow that it was slowing everything in the game so he had way more time to plan his strategy than other who could not play under those conditions. That's two extreme exemple, but just to illustrate that your comment with cars makes non sense whatsoever. You can have the perf of drag race for quite cheap on computer, and you can beat the fastest cars with just a medium car. It is not so related to budget. Video game competition is about skill and that's all about it when people are equal under those circumstances. On some plateforms and game people limit to 60fps so everyone is equal. What you say if I don't missinterpret does not seems correct to me. Driving skills is not related to the car... And each car race you are talking is totally different discipline. The point of quake, or other balanced game such as cs or ages of empires 2, is that everyone is equal. Is is skill based, but if you had all those parameters (internet/screen/kbm...), indeed the richest man then is a pro, but you know like me that it is not the case, it is an avantage of having money. The rich kid in big city will have easier time than the poor kid in the woods with bad ISP, which will get reckt and may never shine because of it, because it is not a balanced fight. Back in 2000's when there was the olympic game of video games "wcg"' no one could ever have the slighest advantage over the other in term of hardware. Everyone had more or less the same gaming experience, and fights were equal. A screen, gaming mouse or keyboard would certainly never be something important for winning or being better in that era. It up to the dev to make a equal experience for everyone. But then the riches be like but I have 500hz and you limiting me to 240 blablabla, and we will always listen to those rich kid, which kind of pisses me off with these new trends. For a sane multiplayer gaming experience, especially in a fast fps everyone should be equal.
