I’m 50-year-old Japanese man struggling with meaningless life. Happy when playing Street Fighter 2. My new RU-vid channel of learn Japanese: / @isaokingking
Your life isn’t meaningless. You’re a good father, working hard, providing. Your wife and children need and love you. They WILL remember that. You have plenty of meaning brother. Keep up the good fight. God bless.
@@gussstavodepression or other issues can absolutely distort reality for a good or great parent. It’s a constant personal struggle on top of raising entire young humans to become adults. For those who don’t have or understand depression or other challenges, it’s very easy to jump to easy judgments and conclusions, unfortunately.
@@kenm2709You have no idea what this man is going through. Regardless of what he uploads, we don’t know what’s going on in his mind. Depression, loneliness, the feeling of meaninglessness can manifest regardless of life situation.
@@kenm2709 Seems like you have never had depression. Don't talk out of ignorance. You can have everything in the world and still you can't change what your mind feels about yourself or the things/people around you. It's not about being ungrateful, it's something deeper that I hope you never have to understand. Edit: I'd love to give a better explanation, but I don't feel like writing an essay for this.
Most of his stress is financial related because the Yen is at about a 40 year economic low. Not matter how hard he works, it’s difficult to get to financial freedom. It seems like an endless road without much support. He really built a worldwide community in the comments. He seems to have a really good grasp of what is going on and continues to struggle. Don’t give up. Wish you the best. Gambatte.
@mfg1035 man everyone is poor everywhere you go despite their being an abundance of everything. There's certainly alot of evil going on behind the scenes. Don't buy into the scarcity tactics they try to justify for our suffering.
The power of international money, , international big capital... That's the price Japanese had to pay when they lost to America. When people are starting to accumulate wealth, they raise the interest rates. It's a world wide pyramid scheme and a modern system for slavery.
You're just 29. You have plenty of time. Living with regret sucks, so believe in yourself and give it your best shot... But just in case it doesn't work out, have a Plan B to fall back on.
Be bold, but respect your own boundaries. Give YOURSELF the benefit of the doubt. As someone completely discouraged and disconnected that's all the good advice I can dish out to even amount to feeling useful. Cheers.
Yeah??? I'm a 41 year old American asshole....struggling with XBOX users getting fucked over on that new Marvel vs Capcom collection that was just recently announced.....
Hi, I'm 22 years old and I admire you very much. Don't let your depression undermine the achievements you have already done in your life! You seem like a very good father and you should be proud of that. I also thank you for your Japanese language channel as I've been learning for a year now and I enjoyed your lessons. Keep your head up man and stay strong!
The meaning of life is following Christ teachings. You wont find other meaning or true hapiness anywhere else. Im glad I realized it 5 years ago at 35. Now at 40 everything is way better in my life.
@blickman5090 that's not going to be enough for your mind one day. Carving, shaping and molding are the carrot on a stick for the young, and sooner or later one realizes they'll never catch the carrot, or they'll have caught it and not realized it or realized it's not enough, and then they will crave deeper meaning.
Take your time to grieve and let it all out. But in time try to remember the good times. Your mother would not want her memory to make you sad, but to comfort you. It’s totally understandable you’re sad but reframing the situation to gratitude for the life she led and the love she gave you may help to honour her memory and to keep you from feeling bad. Give it time. ❤
@@askjapan9669 I'm sorry for all the negativity you are experiencing in your life, but I'm glad 'Street Fighter' helps with all your angst. Like you, 'Street Fighter' is also my favorite game of all time because it was there for me when I was experiencing dark moments in my life! Also be happy and thankful that your not on drugs at least, here in America people going through bad times are most likely to turn to drugs in order to help with our depression, take your love for the game and join tournaments, who knows maybe one day you'll even become a pro player! Wouldn't you like being able to make money doing what you love? In the end it's really about your mental health than money being an issue, I wish you the best and if you ever need someone to talk to or just vent I'm here for ya!
I’m 48 yrs old and I’ve lost most of my family and friends . I even lost my job and house after a heart attack during covid … my only thing left was my dog Of 7 1/2 yrs and he recently passed with bone cancer . I spent half my pay on my rent in the ghetto … I haven’t played streetfighter in months .. now just trying to escape the loneliness and depression and recover from a close suicide by cop incident . Got baptized recently and this spiritual journey is my last chance of hope ……be grateful and humble for the family and things you have . Tomorrow is not promised . God bless you 🙏
I feel for you dman. I will pray for you tonight. I turn 50 next month. No GF, wife or kids. No dog (who would take care of it when I’m at work). All I do is work. Very few friends. I have terrible social anxiety. About 98% sure the jab screwed me over health-wise. I’m born again Christian recently and nothing has ever helped me more. Give everything you got to God and pray constantly. Thank him for every little thing. Literally everything I’ve prayed for recently has come true. Just give it all to God man. Wishing you the best, you got this.
You Got Baptized! Im happy for you. The lord is the Way the Truth and the Light. Pray every night and dont miss sunday mass. You will find true meaning and happiness fast.
I just found your channel today, and I just wanted to say that I am a 31 year old Canadian guy (extremely mixed ethnicity, lol) who _sometimes_ struggles with feelings of a purposeless life, too, and I think your life does have meaning. I mean, look at the content your putting out. You are bringing attention to important issues and mental health issues that many people might also be experiencing, while showing that you can do things to keep yourself entertained and raise your own spirits. It's almost the equivalent of a workout video showing people how to do chin-ups, but your version is helping people do a chin-up for their emotional well-being. Sharing your thoughts and feelings regarding loneliness makes others feel that they are not alone. Keep up the good work, Askjapan!
Life isn't meaningless but I can understand the thought. Have you ever considered going camping? I go camping every year and it really helps reset my mental state. Just disconnecting from it all can help a lot.
what you mean is "adding different flavors to life". Nature helps a lot, getting interested in science or philosophy (or spirituality), learning an instrument, take long walks and see the society/nature around you... Depression is your body asking for a change (of perspective, of activities...)
@@francesco5581 I agree but those don't disconnect you from the world. You still have your cellphone, twitter and all those terrible places that can cause stress. Really disconnecting from everything and everyone gives you time to actually think. There's too much noise in cities and too many people. You can never be alone in a city in but when I go camping I feel truly alone. That gives me mental space and enables me to reflect deeply on my life.
@@Vandius24 i think is more important to grow and learn to handle these tools (cellphones, Fb, whatever) in a more wiser and limited way... And that helps more in the long run... a few days of abstinence helps you, but a new awareness helps you much more
Yea, this can rly help. It's important to relax intensly, activating the parasympathicus, by whatever means. I was so stresses out for some time, that I also felt life is meaningless and had rly dark thoughts. Then I found a way to really cool down spending my time more relaxed and life became enjoyable again.
I love watching your videos, as do a lot of other people. To me, that means something and I already know this channel will be in the back of my memory for the rest of my life.
Thousands of people listen to you each time you upload a video! Not meaningless. You have reached more ears than most people. People clearly find comfort in you. Pretty cool achievement if you ask me, FRIEND. - josh
I think all of us men this age feel this way, i have a museum of videogames, consoles and vintage computers, no one sees them but me! Happy belated birthday to your kid by the way.
I’m a 22-year-old North Carolinian who stumbled across your channel just now by sheer luck. I have no idea what exactly I’m getting into, but this channel looks so wholesome and like it’s exactly the kind of chill environment we need in the world right now. It feels like I’m hanging out with an old friend, decompressing, catching up and playing a retro game, and frankly, those are some of the best moments in life. I can tell from these comments that a lot of people really appreciate and enjoy your content. So thank you so much for sharing these quiet, late night moments with all of us, and thank you for reminding me that we’re all just trying to live life right now in these crazy, uncertain times. Genuinely, thank you-arigato. I can’t wait to watch more of your videos-and I will definitely be checking out your new channel because I am very interested in learning Japanese. ❤️ I hope your days get better and brighter, and please remember: even when the moon is new and dark, invisible to the eye, it is still there, and given time, it will be full again, bright and luminescent. And even on those blackest of nights, when the moon is invisible and all is deathly quiet and still, the stars burn on with life, a light in what seems like endless darkness. They may be distant, but they are there. From what I can tell, you are like those stars to your viewers-a shining light in a dark time that reminds us that the darkness, the unnatural quiet and stillness-they don’t last forever. I may be halfway across the world from you, and I may have only just found your channel, but you are now one of my favorite stars. And please know that your life has meaning and you are not alone. 🌟
You’ve two kids - that’s your new purpose and your one and only way. About everything else - life is brutal, I live with Epilepsy which horrible but my family is supporting me. Stay strong!
I understand how you feel. At times I feel like this. My life isnt meaningless, I just can't get rid of the feeling of not enjoying it. Hang in there friend. It does get better it seems like you're in a slump but only for now. It really will get better for you. Thank you for sharing with us ❤ 👍
I am a 36 year old American disabled man from Florida also struggling. I love videogames too. I recently started playing 3ds games for the first time. I wish I was your neighbor so we could be friends. All the nice people are always so far away.
your videos make a lot of people happy and entertained, please keep your head up through these hard times! there are people all over the world who are going through similar things right now and we just have to keep doing little things like playing street fighter every once in a while to keep us going
@@r_ex_7it's shameful to whine to the world about these things, one thing we can often have is dignity at least. To put your problems on center stage is weak and selfish. Everyone wants to be heard, this isn't the platform for petty problems, and yes in the scope of things it is petty.
Your videos are relatable to so many people and help us to feel like we aren’t alone in our struggles 💜 helping others is an amazing purpose in life! Thank you for sharing these videos with us
I'm a 46yo dad of three and I really feel like you do a lot lately. Watching your videos makes me feel better because even though the outside news is bad, you still figure out a way to get some light in there. I loved Street Fighter in SNES and Guile was my favorite character, Chun-Li was a close second. Thank you for your videos, be well brother!
I'm fairly young 21 year old American but even I know it definitely is rough nowadays to make good social connections but hey man your enjoying life and it takes courage to share that with thousands of people I actually like these videos there quite cozy and offer a unique perspective on Japan through regular people and not "influencers".
おはよう ✨ Haven't watched the video fully yet, but I hope you take good care of yourself. Your life has a lot of value, and I'm glad you're able to express yourself. 💕
Life has the meaning we give it! You seem like a calm and kindhearted person, the world needs more people like you. You're doing good by just existing and sharing good energy.
Sir, I am glad I found your channel. You are very brave to talk about your life and struggles. I just want to say that you are strong and you are an amazing soul. I appreciate you. I hope you stay strong and healthy for your family, but also for yourself. Thank you.
Your video was suggested to me. Glad I clicked on it. You are my age and the things you are going through and talking about, I can semi-relate with; including your love of Street Fighter II, which is one of my favorite games from the early 1990s too. I have subscribed to your channel. Wishing you and your family the best, friend. 😊
Doesn’t matter what year, Street Fighter 2 and other classics are timeless. I’m 41 years old, and seeing this brought a smile to me. The CRT TV is the best way to play Super Street Fighter 2. Or any Super Famicom/SNES around. Keep on gaming.
I know a RU-vidr who only gets 5k-10k views per video on average and puts out 2 or 3 videos a week, he makes about $1k a month. You making daily videos and getting about 20k views per video and sometimes much more, must be making plenty of money to pay off your mortgage sooner. The RU-vid grind is finally paying off for you. Congratulations!
He's clickbaiting. Don't give him the sympathy. This dude has a beautiful wife, two healthy kids, and a video game hobby that he clearly enjoys, yet he gets on here and titles his videos complaining about not going out on Friday nights. You're not SUPPOSED to be going out on Friday nights when you're married with kids. This guy knows he's fortunate. People need to stop falling for this nonsense.
@@TheSixthSLoTregardless of how it looks we dont know his true intentions but we do know one thing that these videos have helped people and never hurt them so i see no wrong being done
@@TheSixthSLoTsay what you want, but I’m gonna keep watching these vids cuz I like em, bot because I think he needs sympathy. I like this guy. He’s chill unlike other people.
I hope you find a way to create meaning for yourself. In this odd book called life, we must write our own definition for who we are. Choose wisely, cleverly and swiftly who you want to be. You have the entire rest of your life to be that person, every day. And since you don't have an expiration date, you might be around for another 1000 years!!!!
don’t feel bad about the Japanese currency. It’s almost impossible to live in the USA right now. The US dollar is really worth nothing but just keeps getting inflated. A dollar is worthless now. You have to make 20 million yen a year to live comfortably where I live to afford a place and car and everything else. And that’s for 1-2 people I couldn’t imagine with kids.
@@rifqimujahid4907 because its good if your a foreigner. Foreigners get everything, grants, small business loans, housing and free education. Actual Americans born here don’t get nothing handed to them and unless you’re born rich or find a way to break the 9-5 cycle. And most of them come to US because the countries they are coming from are oppressive or underdeveloped and full of violence.
@@idk459 yep I still use my Vive OG but don't game much personally. HL Alex is good and has free add-ons, escape room and horror games are good, some lesser known games are often better - e.g. Operation Warcade is great but doesn't seem like it should be. I was pretty good at Beat saber - doesn't get old, even though I was never into rhythm games. Dozens of free/ demos are around as well.. I think in general plenty to keep a casual gamer busy.
From a spiritual ( Judeo-Christian ) perspective, creating one's meaning makes sense. Taking steps of value and purpose to give meaning to one's life. On a profound level, the Creator's creativity is limitless. Includes creating humanity. And He has imprinted us ( "In His Image" ) with the similar spirit of creativity. Adults often lose their childlike creativity...unless they cultivate and practice it regularly. Hobbies/Art, etc. Be CREATIVE. Co-Create with God!
A loving God created everything in the universe with meaning and purpose. Even insects and every blade of grass. How much more do you think an all-powerful, omniscient God who calls you His father, has made you with purpose? He wants you to know Him, to know Jesus Christ who loves you so much that he bore your sins on the cross, so that you may be forgiven for all of yours, and thus have eternal life with Him in heaven. All you have to do is pray to God in Jesus' name. Just talk with Him and trust that Jesus is exactly who He claimed to be in the New Testament eyewitness accounts, that's all! He loves you more than any person is even capable of loving. And the true definition of love, is to lay one's life down for another, that they may live and prosper. I hope you call on Jesus' name, brother. Nothing is more life-changing than that!
I think it’s click bait at this point to say your life is meaningless. You are reaching 100k subscribers with healthy family. Chances are you might become full time RU-vidr very soon. Maybe it’s time to make a video on how positive your life is becoming.
Your video titles are really starting to piss me off. You have 2 kids and a wife, You wanna know who really have a meaningless life? Men like ME who have no friends or family and no woman even look at us. People who couldnt have a family of they tried. Yeah i get it, depression and mental illness can affect anyone and everyone. You either get over it and fight for a better future for you and your family , or you die. It's that simple. Find new hobbies, teach your kids the skills they will meed to survive , or quit your job and find a new one you like more. Even Japanese people can get a new job half through life if they find the right management who understands them. I live in the midwest , i drive 3 hours in any direction and im still in the same scenery that i left. You can take a shinkansen to hokkaido or kyushu in just a few hours and get totally different environments. You are blessed in that regard that i never was. Take advantage of what graces you have on your side. 諦めんなよ! 諦めんなよ、お前!!
@@PauloHenrique-os4lp thing is, he can provide an insight into the daily life of the average (no disrespect) middle aged person , doing different kinds of things. The revenue even though it may not be big can contribute to that. He speaks English really well and seems to be aware of things happening outside of Japan. There is definite scope for improvement of his situation, but it all depends on how much he wants it. One thing he can do is show people what he’s learning about AI and how is can be used to help him at work. Difficult - kinda, impossible-no. Besides soo many other RU-vidrs in Japan are posting similar material. I think the whole world has caught up to what urban and rural life is like in Japan now.
Dude doesn’t know what real depression looks like. If he spent even half the time taking action than sitting there whining he would likely would get somewhere but he chooses to literally spam post the same content about why his life sucks while living a better life than about 98% of the population of earth. I used to be like this in my teens, miserable, severely anti social and lonely. This dude at least has a wife and kids, I didn’t have a girlfriend but one day I got a job, joined a gym, got myself annual passes for theme parks, started experiencing new things I’ve never done before, starting meeting people who became my friends and I started to change. Life started to feel amazing . You want to be happy? Get up and do something about it instead of crying because you’ll never get anywhere at you’re current state. Depression won’t disappear, it can’t. if you don’t take action It’s only going to grow endlessly until it begins to suffocate you. Ive been there many times. Anyways, take action. Live life and be grateful for the good things in your life
@@Trullzlul yes he has an idea. 50 year old man feels lonely, and there is just one remedy: be active. He used to have friends, so there is nothing wrong with him. Maybe some social anxiety, but sitting at home won’t help him.
@@Trullzluldid you read what I just posted? I have suffered depression for years but by being active in my life I overcome it time and time again. Being inactive causes depression because you feel closed off, I bet this guy has barely even left his town in the past 10 years much less go to the gym . Again, you don’t know my experiences. I lived a severely lonely life much worse than this man is living. I once cried in my room alone on Christmas because I had no one to spend it with in my teens but eventually I decided to step up and fix my life instead of crying despite having social anxiety. Sometimes you have to step out of your comfort zone to achieve anything. The choices are simple, make changes in your life that can alter the course for the rest of your life or sit there and cry for the rest of your life like this guy in his 50s is doing. Anyone can suffer from depression but this man has more options than most people do.
For people trying to scold or tell someone that their life is meaningful bc they have a house and kids , your attempt to be positive is dumb and unhelpful. Who are you to tell someone what is meaningful or isn’t. It’s like telling someone not to feel happy or not to feel sad. YOU think his life is meaningful but to him, this is not true. Stop trying to be positive for no reason and just let him be who he wants to be. If he finds meaning it will be on his own terms when and if that happens. You all say this because most of you are young. Wait until you’re older. Then you’ll stop badgering people about how to feel about their lives bc you too will be traumatized many many more times
Exactly, some people here are just plain arrogant and ignorant. Thinking that having a family, kids and a hobby equals automatically to happiness is pretty damn simple-minded. Life is a little bit more complex than that lol.
Bro has an awesome video game collection (a hobby he clearly enjoys) a beautiful wife who cooks and keeps a nice home, two healthy children, then gets on here and complains that his life is meaningless. I've even seen videos titled along the line of him being disappointed that he isn't going out on a Friday night.... Umm, yeah dude, that's normal when you're married with two kids. This kind of clickbaiting for views is so cringe, and everyone in the comments feeding into it is even more cringe. This guy knows he has a good life. All of you are crash dummies 😂😂
I subscribed today. I just realized you are like me but way far away. I also play video games to cheer myself up when I am feeling low. Typically in the middle of the night. I am also a fan of SF2. It is the first game I ever played in an arcade cabinet. I bought it for the SNES a little later. Wild, we are rather similar, but very separated geographically. I find this fascinating. Keep your head up, brother.
I'm happy your life is changing your youtube channel is doing so well.Soon you can leave your job and do this full time and maybe find new meaning to your life.
I always loved Japanese culture and of course game/pop culture. Your slow approach on your JP learning channel looks very promising. Subscribed! Also, as a member of retro games fighting community (Street Fighter, Garou, KOF...) your hobby is very close to me. Keep the videos going! Sending a nice Hadouken! :)

Hey man we're all here for you. Don't give up and stay happy all the time. You don't need to have a bunch of friends to have fun. Maybe find someone that has the same interest as you!
Life is rough, but it definitely isn't meaningless! I love your videos and basing on the comments - many other people love them too. I honestly don't know how well is it socially accepted in Japan, so I don't know if you're willing to try that, but maybe you could try to talk to some therapist? There's no shame in that at all. It's easy to see that you are a great guy, I hope that you will start feeling better PS. Waiting for japanese lessons!
