Wow, thank you so much! :) you’re incredibly kind and I very much appreciate your comment. I absolutely try to be a voice, for the voiceless, and recognize where I excel. I remember being wheeled into the OR for one of my surgeries, and I was telling the nurses about my RU-vid channel and how I felt like I was going through my experiences because it was my responsibility to use them to help people. You help me recognize that I am doing exactly that. :) thank you again!

Hi Nate, I had a similar ureteral issues since I was in 2nd grade. Lots of surgeries. Very painful when there is an obstruction. Surgery takes a while to recover from. I have no doubt you will get it all fixed and you can go on and live a great life. Sorry you have to go through it, but it will soon be just a memory. Best!

Hey Nate, “plumbing” problems are extremely scary. Last year I developed a bad infection that caused me to be unable to pee on my own. After months of having a Foley catheter and then having to self catheter, my body corrected itself and I am fine now. It is amazing what doctors can do now, I know you will get through this and things will be normal again. Please keep in touch and let us know how you are doing.

This last year I had several kidney stones. The largest was 14mm. That’s as big as spikey/spindly marble. Afterwards, for a few weeks I had to have a stent in both ureters. OMG. That was the most uncomfortable time ever, I was instantly turned into a walking 90 year from the continued pain, I was hunched over. But it has to be done. About 15 years earlier I had a TV camera shoved up/down there which found a polyp, in the urethra in the prostate. It was almost like a thanksgiving turducken. Then this year, the 4 large marble sized stones/crystals showed up. They obliterated the largest one by ultrasonics, but they never flushed out and left me with a 14mm sand mass. I’ll wait until it becomes critical again before taking those out and then having to wear those stents again.

@@NateLawlor , You were blessed with task & opportunities to Carry out these callings. I have lived with 34+ years with HIV/AIDS. I wanted to know to how long? My doctor said, no longer than 1993. There were no effective meds & I watched everyone I knew living with AIDS die. The Meds push me into Kidney failure Stage-3B, then I developed Epilepsy with both Major & Minor Seizures, the worst thing that is ever present: Pain, I feel like a pig over a fire roasting & many times added onto that is the feeling of beingstabbed with a Icepick over & over & over… again. My mandatory cocktail of meds & supplements is 50+ pills everyday must be taken & drink 96 oz of Gatorade everyday. The meds dry me out my head the floor. It took a little while, but I surrender to the wood floor, I got up went straight to the bathroom & my head hit the ceramic tile……. I immediately surrendered to the ceramic tile. True story. Hi Nate. Oh to be young again. This video has come years later after you filmed it. Nov 14 2023. In my 56th year, now, I started seeing blood in my urine as well. I'd never had that issue. I was scheduled for a cystoscopy, like you. I was just mortified with the whole scenario, seeing there were a bunch of women in the room, one male nurse and my doctor !! The ladies just giggled at me. So the camera went in, and they found that I was not emptying urine normally, and that I had peed before hand, but when they went in, my bladder was still half full. The muscle behind my prostate was swollen, not allowing for proper function. I did not have prostate cancer or anything like that (Thank the Baby Jesus). They put me on Flomax to correct the problem, and today, I dropped my 6th month urine samples to the lab earlier this morning. You know not drinking alcohol is NOT the end of the world. I haven't had a drink in 22 years now, because I just can't have ONE. We all grow up, and maybe a medical scare will get you thinking about always taking care of your body, and not abusing it with substance, and taking it for granted. We only have this one body and if it craps out, you are a dead boy walking young man !! Been where you have been take care of you now.

Seeing blood in your urine is the scariest thing I’ve ever experienced. Truthfully, I hope you’re ok and doing ok. :( I admire you not drinking for over 20 years! I’m proud of you for that, but I’m now 26, and, still, so young. I also had a similar experience with dr’s being in the office and not taking things seriously. I understand that to them, it’s their job, but to me, it’s my life. :( I had a nurse who had me clean my penis, because of my catheter, and she gave me 0 privacy. She made me feel like a piece of meat, and not a human. :( which is so sad. I appreciate your comment and hope you are on a track to be better. ❤️

I'm currently on dialysis and fearful of the new rules with a new kidney and all of that. I totally get it because I've been there, especially with the pain. Try to be as good as you possibly can to your kidneys through proper diet, exercise, and prayer/meditation helps with anxiety /depression. Please be good to yourself. Peace always!

Not to make light of your current medical trials (my best wishes go out to you in hopes of a complete recovery), but your bad reaction to alcohol unavoidably reminded me of a certain decades-old pop-culture reference. When I was little, Rod Serling's _The Twilight Zone_ TV show (1959 through the early 60s) was generally considered too "adult" and scary for me to watch, though towards the end of its run I had the occasional opportunity to sneak in an episode (my favorite from that era was -- and is -- "Number Twelve Looks Just Like You" ;-> ). In the mid-80s, when I was grown up, the series had a short-lived reboot, generally not considered as successful as the original show, but still with some memorable episodes. The one that your dilemma with alcohol reminded me of is "The Hellgramite Method": en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Hellgramite_Method You might conceivably get some wry entertainment out of watching it. So, they fix the left side. And then they wait, while you're still in pain from the right, until the left side is seriously damaged, before they schedule you for the right side. And then put you on dialysis for how long??????............
@NateLawlor

They originally fixed my left side, with the idea that the right side may become a problem in the future. It ended up being a problem much sooner than we expected. But it became extremely problematic with our doctors and insurance. It was a lot to deal with 😅

This video was in 2020, and I needed 3 surgeries after I uploaded this. :( I put up a “my kidney surgeries explained” video where I sum up my whole experience, and I really got screwed because of medical insurance and everything that comes with it. I know the feeling. I had a mag3 nuclear scan which gave me a split function of 13% right kidney and the left was doing 87%. My eEGF hangs out between 30-42, predominantly. When urine refluxes into your kidneys it’s called hydronephrosis. I just had a stricture in my right ureter removed myself, but instead of the offending part of my ureter being removed, my kidney just got attached to the bladder directly. Good luck in the future, I hope you don’t get the shitty un-luck of the draw like I did and you live past 45 (I’m 37 now) because in all likelihood I won’t!

i went thru some of the same. I went to doc they did a scan of my left kidney and said I have cancer in it. It will have to come out. On the operating table they were during a laparoscopy. 3 holes, camera and the 2 tools. The growth was so large they had to cut me open. Another 1/2 hour. I went back the the doc after. He said i was unusual??? He said there was no cancer just a big growth. Lucky me. He had me scared. so i doing well my other kidney they say is doing extremely well. So hopefully that all for today. At 75 i can't expect something else my happen. hope things work out for you like they did for me.

Who knows why in irs infinite wisdom the YT algorithm brought me here but I am relieved to see that the video is 3 yrs. old and that you are doing well now. It sounds like you've been through a lot. Would you mind sharing the EXACT name of the disease you were told you have...not an English descriptive but the precise medical name of the disease...the name that would be found in the index of a medical or surgical textbook? It will be in your hospital record's discharge summaries and (hopefully) in your doctor's office record. His office can email you a copy of your discharge summaries, if you don't already have them. And if you used any major hospital, they will likely have created a patient portal for you with which you can access much of your hospital data.

I don’t know exactly what it was called, but my doctor said it’s something that usually develops in kids, but for some reason developed later in my life. I had 7 cystoscopies, and 2 pyeloplasty’s (one on each side). If I’m able to find exactly what my dr said it was, I will respond. 👍🏼 I believe he said it was something with a p, but I truly don’t remember. It’s been a few years now. I appreciate you! :)

@@NateLawlor For your own welfare at least, you really must know the exact name of your disease. So, write it down and carry it with you. If you ever wind up in an ER, or are otherwise seen urgently by a doctor, he must know. Include the EXACT name with the emergency info. on your phone, too. A good ER will always look for it. If you have a complex past history, NEVER go to a small hospital for anything....always a large, major teaching/university hospital. Good luck and hope you are doing well.

@@NateLawlor Incidentally, my guess is that you have/had hydronephrosis but it's the cause that's important. If you had pyeloplasties, include that with your emergency medical info and any allergies you have, with meds., etc. Very important. Again, good luck.

Cramps? I genuinely used to classify them as cramps, because that’s what they felt like, but they were crippling. And I have a high pain tolerance. They were WAY worse than just cramps, but I never thought they’d be anything worse than, so I just assumed they were “cramps”. They were not lmao they were my kidneys and the pain in in your lower back, on your right, or left side (both sides if it’s both your kidneys) and it feels like someone’s stabbing you and twisting the knife. It sucks
