I see a lot of people comment about scotty being biased and I've never owned a Toyota, but I also know a lot of people that will never buy anything else but a Toyota after being burned for decades into buying something else. It seems to me that his main mission is to educate us so we don't get burned. I have really learned and enjoyed his videos for the last few years since I started watching. Luckily I got a Honda 10 years ago after chasing my tail with a so called American made car like GM, Ford and the nonexistent Chrysler. I don't think that I would buy anything newer than a 2019 because of all of the problems with all of the manufacturers and the technology and supply chain issues. Some really great and smart people comment on here and I always like to read some of them. Thanks everyone and even the haters
I treasure my 2004 highlander, bought last year for 5,000 with just under 10,000 miles. Replaced original dry rotted tire. all fluids changed, new timing belt/ water pump, updated Bluetooth head to the JBL sound system. Very blessed
I like it but I refuse to pay 14k for a 10 year old car with 160k miles on it. Sorry. That's a 6 or 8 thousand dollar car. Stop paying these prices and they will adjust down to where they belong.
To all the folk who are claiming that the fella got robbed by purchasing a 10 year old car with 168k miles. All I can say is that this is the times we live in. I am a small independent repair shop and dealer. You wouldn't believe what these cars go for at auction. Heck I don't even buy much from auctions anymore because the prices are so high that I'd have to charge something like this to even have a small margin by the time I paid for all the fees, transport, reconditioning, detail, etc. So I just don't buy them. But the point is that this is the time we live in. Most all good used cars like Toyota, Honda, etc are fetching higher than normal prices because, well, they can. Even at the auctions. Consider this phenomenon when you make a critique.
You need to check for a parasitic draw in the electrical system. You should not need a new battery every two years, even if you're only buying a battery with a 2 year warranty.
I'm quite pleased that my 2009 Prius has just over 250K miles, burns no oil, AC is cold, has no codes, and runs very well especally after I just repaced the inverter coolant pump.
I have. 2017 RAV4 hybrid with 142,000 miles that gets 42mpg. Fill ups cost me $38 a week, and all I've done to it is oil changes, a tire change, and a coolant drain and fill.
Go for it, i bought my Honda Cr-v For pretty much the same milage and now its like on 193000 miles and still a smooth ride without much problems. Last time i had it with the mechanic was on the annual inspection on february 2023 that is like every 2nd year and still I don't need to fix anything on it yet. Have another rav4 2002 on 248000 miles that really have had some bad previous owners that didn't take proper care of it, Had it since 2022 but have to park it right now because of rust. the only Major issues (despite the bad oil pressure it had one or a few times) with that was that stupid turbo mechanism that sometimes forced me to restart the engine a couple of times, I could have just scrapped it but i know its still a good car so i put it aside and fix it when time is available.
2014 RAV4 is indeed a reliable car, but "Comfortable" 😁😁😁, No, its too jiggly (stiff suspension with short wheel-base), otherwise, pretty well made. One thing to check is if it has its transmission fluid replaced at all...
I had a 2016 RAV4 with a 2.0 engine and a CVT that was available in Europe. We didn’t have the 2.5 engine. I had it since new and made 150k km. 2 years ago I replaced it with Lexus NX hybrid that I like even more. It’s much more comfortable and interior quality is a whole different level than the RAV4. I will probably keep the NX for a long time.
I have my 2016 awd rav4 limited made in Canada as well. Im the only owner and keep up with maintenance. Im only at 90k miles. Still runs like its brand new.
I have the exact same car. I bought it new and now it has 40,000. Looks and runs like brand new. I just put my second set of tires, had the brake pads/rotors changed and changed all the fluids. The car is the best car in snow I have ever own. It seldom goes into AWD and it is great in front wheel drive only. I just put a set of Michelin Cross Climate 2’s. Love them! Looking forward how the handle the snow in the Pocono’s of PA. I plan on keeping this car this it dies.
In 2018 I bought a 2012 Prius V with 29,000 miles for $14,000. Now 6 years & 104,000 miles later the car is worth almost the same. Runs great & will be interesting to how many more miles & years I will get out of it, barring deer strikes of course.
That’s how Toyotas are. They are going to have high resale value no matter what the mileage is because people know that they are built well and run for a really long time.
That's pretty much my condition with 2016:) 130,000 miles, got it at 70,000 miles a couple years ago:) it's an amazing car! It's in great condition, I take care of it, some of the maintenance is a little behind though like the coolant, timing chain, and differential fluid, becauase I can't afford to change them right now. I still have $13,700 to pay on it though:/ but in less than 3 years it'll be paid off!:)
Still too much. The 'gas savings' are negated with the expensive monthly insurance. Rather get used at a fraction of the price and dirt cheap insurance. $14k for this one was too much too
I always replace my tires at the same time, even when I drove a front wheel car. Every 5 years for my summers and 6 for my winters and only because by then they are cracking
No way Scotty. I had a 2010 for a couple years. It said 4 cycle but really it was a 2 cycle by how much oil it used. Then the rust - was about ready to break in two when I traded it off. Visibility is an issue with rav - you really can not see out the rear and the hood slopes so can't see front. Worst car I ever owned.
Bruh, you must be a midget because my short sister measuring in at a mighty 5:3 says she loves the visibility and can see just fine out the rear window even with tint
My sister has a 2017 KIA Soul and last year it started having oil disappear. No leaks but goes thru a quart a week. That’s putting less than 70 miles a week on it going to work. Kia and the dealer says that normal. No it’s not.
I just paid 8000 for a 2012 rav4 all wheel drive 4 cyl with 86,000 miles it runs like new. Picked it up in New York and drove it to Iowa next day trouble free.
Looks like I’ll keep driving our 2004 Camry with 280k. $14k for 160k miles is wild. I also see post-high-school kids thinking $1000/month car payments are normal. It’s not. That used to be a house payment. Kids also used to drive hand-me-down beaters, not late model $50k Jeeps.
Thanks for this video. Scan tool looks like it’s running Android! Re: internet, guess you could always use the hotspot on your phone if WiFi is too far away, if you have service.
@@TheTruth-dy8zeWe didn’t buy it new. It was already devalued. Even gas powered vehicles have crappy trade in values. Although, I did once have a Chevy Volt (plug in hybrid) lease that had a trade in value that was higher than what we owed.
That’s how Toyotas are. They are going to have high resale value no matter what the mileage is because people know that they are built well and run for a really long time.

Yeah, that's pretty high for a 2014 with that many miles.
oil change intervals are a problem when I look for used Toyota. Many leases are not getting a change until traded back at 30,000 plus miles. Many other 1 and 2 owners have 10-12 thousand miles between oil changes and ZERO tranny and fluid changes.Too many are also driven too hard in town driving as they are getting their brakes changed every 40 thousand miles.
You should be able to use your phone as a mobile wifi hot spot to connect your scan tool. As long as you have a good cellular signal you're good. If the scan tool won't connect to your phone then it really is a piece of crap
They have this cost and have value, but most are way overpriced because they know people will pay that for them. Toyota has the most resale value, but these dealer prices are a joke and that's for all vehicles. Buy used and pay cash from a private seller if you can and save $5 to $8k.
What's all the nasty comments about? You won't find a Toyota in this good shape at a dealer for 12k unless it's paint is peeling and faded, has problems. This car was taken care of.
Does your car rebuild? I do research rav 2015 doesn’t have CVT transmission “No, the 2015 Toyota RAV4 has a 6-speed electronically controlled automatic transmission with intelligence (ECT-i). However, the 2019 RAV4 and newer models have a 6-speed or 10-speed continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT). CVT transmissions are also known as shiftless, step-less, or pulley transmissions”……. Does a 2015 Toyota RAV4 Have a CVT Transmission? The 2015 Toyota RAV4 comes standard with a 2.4L four-cylinder engine and six-speed automatic transmission. The 2015 RAV4 is not equipped with a CVT transmission. Probably your rav4 ( car flipping with engine and transmission modifications)
$14,000 for an 11 year old car with over 200,000Km on it??? RIP-OFF!!!!!! I don't care if it is a Toyota! That's more than the cost of all the vehicles I've owned since 1993 COMBINED!!!
That’s how Toyotas are. They are going to have high resale value no matter what the mileage is because people know that they are built well and run for a really long time. Also, that’s the way the market is for the older Toyotas right now.
@@Nousername9-b1n Toyota is like Peterbilt, you're paying a premium for the name. Plenty of other manufacturers make solid reliable cars. Two years ago, I bought a 2011 Altima with only 109k miles on it for $4k. The body had normal wear and some clear coat fading, but that didn't matter since it's a learner car for my kids and it still cleans up nicely. The leather interior is flawless and literally every button and function works perfectly, even the sunroof. I've put 25k miles on it in the past two years with multiple 1200 mile road trips, including steep mountain grades in the CA summer; and all I've had to do is normal maintenance. It doesn't burn oil and it gets 35-40mpg on the highway. And when the CVT eventually goes out, I can replace it for $3k and get another 100k+ out of the car.
He's cheap when it comes to spending but he's not greedy. Big difference. He's already stated he does not accept donations because he only wants to help people and doesn't want their money.
STOP complaining guys!😂 That’s what they’re going for and that’s that… at the Manheim auction that vehicle costs $9K before fees, shipping, reconditioning, insurance, lot mortgage, sellers commission etc. so $14k is fair but $12500 would be better. But not a robbery at all!
Just bought a mk1 with 58k miles for £500, completely original with service history, just needed slave cylinder seals as clutch was iffy, £30 later all good, far more character and better off road, then that boring looking car.
I actually found a 2012 tundra with the v6 for $10,000 from a dealer. Had some questions about the power steering and I'll have to keep an eye on that. But it drives like a brand new teuck, with 213,000 miles.
Toyota power steering really likes clean fluid. Keep changing it out with a high quality fluid until it looks clear and you can see some big improvement.
