Hey everyone, im back with another video. I’ve added fire propagation to the game so now you can live out all your pyromaniac fantasies.
The fire will spread along and burn flammable materials like wood and leaves. Im still playing with the values to find the right balance between spread rate, duration etc so fires will still spread a good distance but don’t burn forever and destroy the whole world and your pc lol.
Also, im sorry for the long gap between videos I undertook a bit of a refactor with the world generation system to give it more flexibility and be more memory efficient. Thanks for watching and more is coming very soon so stay tuned 😊

It should propagate faster upwards than in other directions. Looks real good.

Have you thought about making some of the leaves on trees be "crushed" when falling over, to make it a little more realistic? The wood would act as the stopping point and until wood touches the ground, each leaf voxel in the way is destroyed and maybe has some little green particle effects. I think it would do a lot for the trees falling over.

Yeah the leaves used to fall off the trees when they hit the ground but I wasn't happy with it how it worked/looked so it's on the backburner right now.

@@Tooley1998 that makes sense! cool stuff as always :)

@@Tooley1998 what if you removed the collision of the leaves where they phase through the ground, or maybe even delete all leaf voxels that collide with other voxels be deleted, might not look good or be super laggy but it’s worth a try.

How on earth did you get this working without it destroying your CPU? I'm really impressed.

this looks really cool, have you thought maybe adding embers that drift away to light other things on fire? just an idea

Sometimes at night I think about developing voxel games, and one thought haunts me - what to do with buildings that are on a tree? Something like elven forests with treehouses and bridges between them. How then does a tree fall when a house is built on the trunk of a tree

i think adding "charcoal" left behind after burning would sell the look instead of voxels being straight up deleted

Suggestion: Instead of acting rigid, Leaves should get destroyed and slightly lower the tree's velocity until it slows down enough Branches should also snap off if too much force is applied.

Looks awesome! I wonder. If you ignite the grass, does it go on forever or does the fire burn out after a while?

Cool! I’m working on some voxel CSG stuff too. How are you detecting what voxels are chopped off from the rest of the world? (Ex: tree falling over) If something was big and fat enough, would it just float?

have you thought of instead the wood log just disappearing but making it a black burned thingy?

are you using 3d texture arrays for your voxels?

Ok ok. I see you. You add a Boolean logic system like redstone from MC or the wiring from LBP…. Take my money 💰

I hope this will not be the type of project where you hit a wall..something you can't make so you drop the whole thing aside.

trees like these wouldn't burn right through I think. Maybe get carbonized. They're wet after all, and they would smoke a lot at first, although they could break off after a good while

nice work. when physics are happening is it intensive for cpu/gpu to run?
@martinsb6474
@martinsb6474 Год назад
Physics usually run on cpu because of the complex calculation. In the other hand, real time rendering (like in games) runs on gpu because it is simpler, but needs to be calculated very fast. Basically, cpu is slow, but for complex things, while gpu is fast, but for simple things.
