They are cool monitors! I love those to big enclosures behind you! I’m going to go back and watch that build again! I may have some new space opening up, and would love to build something like that!

You really know how to make me jealous 😏 gillens are like the number one monitor I want to get but hard to come by :(

Sorry mate! Don’t want to make anyone jealous. I was lucky enough to have someone that’s a little quiet with his animals contact me on this one. Without that I wouldn’t have known!

Awesome stuff, gillens are amazing and I’ll probably pick up a pair soon. My heart is personally with pilbarensis and I’ve got 3 adults and 3 juvies that I’m raising up. Can’t get enough of them, though it’s difficult to find them being in the US
@BeachesScalyBeasts
@BeachesScalyBeasts 2 года назад
Pilbarensis are sick! We aren’t even allowed to keep them in NSW.

@@BeachesScalyBeasts Wow, I knew the laws there were strict that that seems extreme, my true dream odatria is actually v. hamersleyensis. I think I've seen one guy with them in australia but idk if they're to common there. never seen them outside AU
@BeachesScalyBeasts
@BeachesScalyBeasts 2 года назад
@@nicholasvine5124 yeah the laws are different state to state. I believe Rob from monsoon monitors has hammers in qld.

you should do a video on monitor socialize , is there a aussie style or they mellow out when older ?
@BeachesScalyBeasts
@BeachesScalyBeasts 2 года назад
I don’t really socialise my monitors a lot but it is something that I want to work on now my enclosures are pretty much where I want them. Something I will probably film and work on in the near future. I don’t think Aussies have a particular style in my opinion.

@@BeachesScalyBeasts ok , i dont really like to social or cuddle with reptile but i would want to remove that fight or flight response , feel it just remove stress level , working on sand monitor myself , hope he get used to me before he get big , lol

What basking light do you use for them? Setting up an enclosure for one now and I've had no luck getting the right temps
@BeachesScalyBeasts
@BeachesScalyBeasts Год назад
In my smaller tanks I use little 25w halogens to get a nice small hotspot.
@SG-kl1yb
@SG-kl1yb Год назад
@@BeachesScalyBeasts only 25w gets the job done? My mind is blown! cheers mate
@BeachesScalyBeasts
@BeachesScalyBeasts Год назад
@@SG-kl1yb sure does for these smaller tanks. They are tiny halogens you can get on eBay. Not good for larger animals but baby gillens and smaller lizards they are great. All depends on your ambient temps too of course but these little globes are great.

Sorry to ask another question is it easier just to get another small species.. like ackie or black head My only concern is the large enclosure What would u recommend of the more readily available
@BeachesScalyBeasts
@BeachesScalyBeasts 2 года назад
@@craigsharpe3630 ackies are great starter monitors and very forgiving. Black heads can be extremely shy. Both get at least double the size of gilleni though so you will need a larger enclosure eventually. Gillens are a bit hard to come by at the moment.
