My Father was a respected wrecker driver for 40 years. He passed away in 2021 .He Always told me,Try to pull the stuck vehicle the same way that it went in the problem first. Every situation is different. but when I was riding with him. That rule was true. Sparks recovery are great people. They got the rig out the best way they could. 😅 you guys are great for your community. So was my Dad.

A word of advice, if you don't mind. In the mid-sixties, I was in the Army as a wheel and track vehicle mechanic. A part of our training was "heavy vehicle recovery" under extreme field conditions. When using a snatch block to create a 2 to 1, whenever possible, anchor the hook to a second vehicle or dead man. If you have a 50 ton winch and anchor back to the winching vehicle then it feels 100 tons of force, but if you anchor to a separate anchor point they each only feel 50 tons of force. If you are using a 3 to 1 set up, literally use two separate anchor points plus the winching vehicle. We were taught to use para-cord and monkey grass as an anchor, and believe it or not it works.
@JoeKenda215
@JoeKenda215 2 года назад
Right on!!!
@Devourer221
@Devourer221 2 года назад
Yeah ideally you) instead of using the loader to anchor the wrecker you would terminate the hook from the snatch block at the loader. Also with the same anchor force you can increase your holding ability by using snatch blocks to gear down the winch line allowing you to move the same object without increasing holding power. Useful if your recovery spades are having difficulty holding in soft ground etc

As a dairy farmer, first thing I'd try is unload the semi-trailer. While that loader can handle 2 or 3 of those 3x4x8ft square bales (each bale prolly weighs +1200lbs), might *might* be able to unload the trailer one bale at a time without sinking in and getting stuck. If you can manage that, pulling an empty truck n trailer out becomes much much easier

Something just occurred to me : how come you guys don’t have a large ( D8 or bigger) dozer with what some folks refer to as “swamp tracks” . Caterpillar refers to them as “ low ground pressure “ tracks . Something like that would quickly reduce your time on the jobsite in a lot of these next to impossible situations . A friendly suggestion, that’s all .
@eddiehughes1145
@eddiehughes1145 2 года назад
there's time limiting factors involved with all recovery's the weight of a conventional D-9 or 8 Is going to be huge besides transportation permits . last thing swamp tracks are so much wider. they would have to be removed on loading site and put back on, on recovery site then again after rescue. pure honest head thinking when trying to remove ❤ good safe tactics . OJT. works the best

You guys are really great at this stuff and lots of other cool stuff. When I did farm work and wed get stick in the spring mud we built a sled. It was a 4 X 8 sheet of 3/4 steel plate that we could chain to the front of stuck vehicle that would get under the front end. Because for the way we bent the plate it would ride up and over the mud so we we not digging the front wheels into more mud. It almost floated the front end up and made my life so much easier. I know it sounds stupid but it saved me hundreds of hours over the years. Yours would probably have to be a little wider and longer for your much bigger equipment/vehicles. If you have the metal laying around you might want to try it, or maybe it sounds to recheck for you folks. It was a heavy piece to get into position ill tell you that. Great videos, I watch them all.

It's interesting to see how you do your recoveries vs the majority of companies. Most folks would say "ok unload the trailer, take it as a loss or recover it on your own time" and just get the truck and trailer out. Also I gotta say it was pretty optimistic to not try a couple snatch blocks from the get go on this one.

I love how far rechargeable, cordless power tools have come. I have a few I still wonder how we ever survived without.

If working in a shop all day they aren't needed, I know plenty of folks who don't own cordless. Myself personally I own both air and cordless as they both have their pros and cons.

@@dieseldabz7104 agreed! But we own a working horse farm, Two F-350 trucks I use for hauling hay, horses, obviously horse trailers, flatbeds, and so on. Plus I use my trucks in the field as well. My husband still works full time, typically 6 days a week and these days (post Hurricane Florence) I take care of all the horses various smaller livestock and farm chores. So cordless power tools have made my life, so much easier as well as cut the time down on, on so many of the jobs I have to do in the field where hand tools could only go before. Even just changing a tire on my truck if a mishap in the field or even on the road, and hauling a horse trailer is a fraction of the job it once was for me, since I go no where without my cordless impact. And being as I not a big woman, and my workouts are moving 1,000-1,600 lb obnoxious horses (we are an equine rescue these days, where I rehab, train, or retrain abused, neglect case, last chance or feedlot saves), 80lb square bales or 50 lb feed bags, changing a tire on either of my F-350’s is a task. One now not as daunting with the cordless impact to break the nuts. As well as drilling through electric poles we reuse for fence posts to hang bull gates or run fencing on. You use to have to use an old style hand drill since you need long wood boring bits, even early cordless drill didn’t have enough power. New ones do. I’m also a cert Farrier having done my schooling in 1999, and using a cordless angle grinder has completely changed how quickly I could cleanly trim and or shoe horses. And that’s just a fraction of the way cordless tools have changed my life. My Hobart welder is still my favorite shop tool, and I can’t see the day a cordless welder of its capabilities that’s affordable on our out of pocket budget that is, would ever be enough to replace that beast. So I agree, I do have shop tools, that live in the shop and could never be, or don’t need cordless replacements outside of it. But the ones we have, have truly made my life in particular so much easier and time management and workload/capabilities 10 fold!

Doing it with a handsaw and one wrenches would probably have added a bunch of time...

I imagine that you are pulling more than that truck weighs with the, but also the force needed to pull the 'suction' effect of the mud. Great teamwork.

I'm not going to attempt to read all the other comments, because I am already old, and I'd rather not come to my end reading all of it. Nothing personal, and you boys have good intentions, but ya'll ain't using your thinkin caps ya'll were given. Ideally the fastest and safest way would have been to mat out to the trailer and unloaded it. Then lift the trailer off the fifth wheel, and then you could have snatched the truck out easily. Then hit the trailer from the rear, and ya'll boys been drinking cold beers in half the time. Without near the damage to your equipment, are taking a chance on someone getting cut n half by cables snapping. And if you will carry some old moving blankets to throw on top of your cables and straps you'll save damage to equipment and possibly save someone's life are grave bodily injury

I had to recover my own 5 ton recently. I pulled it out going forward, now looking back...we should have went out backwards, from the direction it went in the hole...lol The cable clamps work real good, but we like to use a molly hogan cable fix when we break cables, then clamp the tail! Awesome Recovery!
