Well, I mean, I use to watch war footage on here in the 2000's. But I was one of the few who joined in 2005 thanks to my friend filming use on the Razor Motorola flip phone and posted it there and sent me the link. I never looked back.

He tosses them back in that way on purpose when he catches an "egger" so there is as little impact to the eggs as possible...this guy is a poster child for responsible harvesting
Truth of the matter is most fishermen do. Those who don’t get ostracized. Modern “on demand” culture has deteriorated advanced planning abilities. Fishermen, farmers, etc. have to think ahead so much more than ppl living in urban environments. Think about the weather and ocean conditions months ahead of time. How something will grow and develop years from now. Conservation becomes 2nd nature when you’re always thinking years in the future
@@Menuki very true. It seems, things grown on land: chicken,cows,crops, etc can be manipulated with growth hormones and fertilizers to speed up the growth process. But sea creatures have to depend on their natural habitat to grow and develop into a mature species. Fish grown in captivity can also be artificially modified, but I don’t see how sea creatures could be. Just my thoughts.
@@scottk2774 even with livestock, you have to think a year out. Cow are harvested 14-20 months old. That over a year of weather and feed availability to plan around. How will what I feed my chickens today affect the eggs I eat next week. HR and marketing departments don’t have to accommodate such things. Because most ppl who live in urban environments don’t need to think too far ahead to live, conservation and sustainability seem like new, revolutionary concepts to them. You work in farming or fishing and it’s second nature. It’s this bigger picture mentality that’s missing that IMHO feeds into a lot of political divide between urban and rural areas
I have a feeling even the most "boring" days are exciting for him, just bc he gets to go out on the Maine ocean every day. He just loves his job and showing people a little slice of his life. I was married to a Lobsterman. He was excellent at it, but he would rather starve to death than do anything else. I get it, though. It's an amazing job. :)

I love, love, love how environmentally conscious you all are. You can't be a good commercial fisherman for long if you're not also a conservationist, and you good sirs, are fantastic at it.
I watch Leon the Lobster on RU-vid. I have never eaten lobster and now after watching Leon I won't. Years ago I watched a documentary about squid and octopus so I never ate them. I'm working on not eating animals because I love them so much. That said I'm not ever going to tell anyone else what to eat or what to believe.
@@hannakinn I love animals too....but, there are some of them that I used to, let's say, "not love" so much. One of those unloved animals were snakes. However, I recently saw a video of a rattlesnake in a man's driveway. He poured water on the thirsty snake and the poor thing immediately began drinking and drinking. There was something about that snake drinking that made me feel so sorry for it. After that, I now love snakes too! Weird, huh?
@@tedadams1324 It's understandable you saw the snake as vulnerable and not only as a threat. I love reptiles, I have from age 3 I understand that rattle snakes do not hunt humans to bite them, they only bite when they feel threatened and they warn before they strike which is more than can be said for some humans. I would not want a pet rattlesnake or any venomous snake for a pet because they're dangerous but I can appreciate them for the role they play in keeping balance in nature.
Ate, as in past tense. An egg is a self contained microhabitat and contains all of the nutrients to last until the embryonic stage is complete, at hatching. She already ate everything they needed to survive before she laid them. They keep them on their body for warmth the same way a chicken sits on her eggs in a nest, and for the same reason, warmth. She is replenishing her energy, for the next laying, not eating to provide for the current cycle.
As a lobster diver we never kill the big females. Even some males occasionally. It preserves the generation! Love your ocean and respect your bread basket
They have very strict rules about what they can keep as catch and what they have to release. That Egger is protected by law. As are undersized lobsters and oversized lobsters. 🦞

Everyone thinks she tore into that fish cause she was hungry. She was sending a message to him to quit messing with her tail. “See this fish? This fish is you if I get the chance!”
And it’s smart in order to ensure that he has a job tomorrow! If they kept all of the baby makers, there wouldn’t be as many lobsters in the future. And of course he wants to follow the law in order to not lose his license. It’s the giving them a snack before he releases them, for me. 🥹
