Hey guys, ive made some significant improvements to the building system in the game. You can now manipulate voxels on a per voxel level allowing you to build basically whatever you want. What you build is fully part of the world so it will burn down if it gets set on fire or collapse if you take out the foundations so be careful 😉.

Totally agree. Anything that makes placing things less (potentially) tedious. Maybe even have it linked to a certain tool?

Oh god! That's the way I always wanted to build in Minecraft. If everything Minecraft offers comes in THIS game with THIS building system and THESE visuals, THIS will be the better Minecraft

Id hope It'll lean more into the Terrafirmacraft vison of minecraft tho, (look the mod up if you dont know, its great) the slower pace of the building system and the physicalized crafting would fit this game so darn well

I love how fluid it feels. The power of being able to do anything. Any shapes. Fast and flexible. And the visuals are great.

there's just so much that feels *right* about this building system. you can build stuff in basically any way you want, including that original minecraft style if you just use cubes, but you can go into far greater detail with this as well

damn amazing idea: make the door placeable like with the drag motion like the roof at 2:46 this way u wouldn't have to make the hole for the door perfectly sized before und could make any sized door. the details of the door like the window and shit could be procedurally added.

This building is so intuitive and voxels look so nice with this lighting you’ve created. unique but also calls to mind a more immersive MagicaVoxel where you can listen to the birds chirp and build to your hearts content lol

Awesome stuff, literally only thing I can point out is a bit of Zfighting when the door opens but that's a minor thing. The building capabilities remind me of a minecraft mod called ''Chisel n' Bits''. You can check it out if you want some inspiration for different building modes because they have an insane amount of ways to build using voxels. Either way, great stuff!

Have you considered something like a "snap to node" setting? Something that would let you place a cubic volume of different sizes that snaps to the node in the center of previously placed volume. I guess there would be a different center (node location) if the dimensions of a give cubic volume are multiples of 2's or 3's. Fantastic game, can't wait to see more!

wow! definitely a lot better than what it used to be! cant wait to see what ppl will do with this. the only thing i would probably add is paintbrushes to paint voxels different colors if u wanted.

I think you could use a system to identify what an item is and then the game will check if the item meets requirements. Like say a collection of voxels is a table, or a bed, or a cookpot and the game will check if that collection of voxels meets the requirements and if so then it will gain the capabilities of the object. As a minecraft example- calling something a bed could require a certain number of "soft" voxels on top. A campfire might have a certain number of "hot" pixels. Could could also build them up out of primitives' (a container, a heating element) and then combine them with any styling you wanted and save that as an oven/furnace. Then a way to export a collection of voxels as an object that can be crafted easier (and be shared with other players).

I think different modes would be good for different players, down the line one i'd love to see is where there are mobs you gotta defend yourself from. As in a good reason why you *need* to have a base to protect yourself from, maybe just/mainly at night, and base defence is important too, or else they could break in. This just feels so immersive, it feels like it could suit that really well!

You should add some sound cues when adjusting the build outline, like a little ticking sound every time its size increases.

This is great for small-scale stuff, but building anything large looks like hell. I would misplace every 12th pillar by a voxel every time. There really needs to be some sort of large grid or repeatable measurement system for the broad strokes.

wow... hard to make from scratch, This is basically just the chisels and bits mod in minecraft, but with on block-break animations, and a bit-world... nice work! :D speaking of, ive been spending hours on end with that mod recently... and its time to get back to it :o

Great stuff. Some polish to make the process of laying out where things will be placed, making that a bit more streamlined and easy, would be good I think. The inventory's a bit noisy as well. Super cool though.

You can combine both methods, this for quick construction and the previous one for finer details. As a player, you can make templates that use the voxels you want, and you can build things like that with a template from the game, like the one in the first video. Maybe there should be an easy way to count how many voxels are used

I love a pixel perfect building system! However with the door there was some zindex fighting so make sure to fix that. Cant wait to play this

It high time :D But seriously, I wanted to ask, are you going to make it possible to create custom interactive objects like trapdoors and doors that you can create yourself using voxels, but at the same time they are functional? And do you plan to use sprites?

maybe add custom block templates? For example, the player will create a template of steps, so as not to spend eternity building it all

You should add presets. So someone (who's as lazy as me) won't need to design everything on it's own, and can just build out of already existing walls/corners/windows/roofs/floors

Honestly I don't really know. I got started with voxels a few years ago with a really bad UE4 tutorial and have built my knowledge over time I guess. Sorry I can't really help I'm sure there are some good resources out there.

Check "sunny walley studio" channel. He has a good minecraft like world coding playlist. Yeap, in unity) furthermore read about octree, greedy meshing, SVO. It's useful stuff for voxel game. Good luck
