I-10 / I-410 on the east side interchange WB are making progress replacing the obsolete cloverleaf design with the flyover design. Webber section I-10 on the east side @ loop 1604 interchange the new overpass over loop 1604 interchange is considerably higher since the old east bound I-10 overpass over loop 1604 is still in use. I-10 east side from 1604 to a little into Guadalupe county Webber continues to widen I-10 & has replaced some overpasses. At Graytown rd looks like it will be a underpass since I-10 has been raised in this section . Cool video that going to look really nice when it’s done.

I wonder what the easiest way to get to 1604 and Lockhill-Selma will be. I guess I have to continue using my shortcut from Vance Jackson and the access road? Thank you for your videos and website. Extremely helpful!

I will have a series of videos soon (that's a relative term based on when I can make time!) that will highlight those traffic pattern changes. Stay tuned!

So I’ve seen they have set of the beams for the connector to eastbound 1604 to west bound I-10. Under all of it, there is a column that has no bent cap and has been there for some time now. The other columns for that connector are yet to be built.

Wait…. You can turn left on red at those stop lights under 1604?? You know how many hours of my life I wasted sitting there?
@TexasHighwayMan
@TexasHighwayMan Год назад
Yes, left on red is legal when going from a one-way to a one-way.

Well, I don't drive these areas a whole lot, but I do use the Valero Trailhead on my bike rides and I like the addition of an extra parking lot for those of us that can't (sometimes) find it full have to park outside the fenced area and/or the Drury Inn Hotel's parking lot.

The last 8 years have been really bad for the exchange... when this is finished. I say this will solve about 80% of traffic for about 5 years before it needs more lanes...

Does this mean it will be the tallest interchange in the world? Because high five in Dallas in 120ft and you said the tallest flyover is 130ft
@TexasHighwayMan
@TexasHighwayMan Год назад
Yeah, I've never been convinced that the High Five is the tallest interchange in the world. There's no list of interchanges by height that I've ever seen, so I think that's a bit of Dallas bravado. There are interchanges in Houston, LA, and even overseas that I would bet are at least as tall if not taller. In any case, the 10/1604 will be-- and High Five is, for that matter-- *among* the tallest interchanges. The 10/410 on the East Side will be, too, with a 120 footer.

5 level stack interchange in Dallas is 120. Houstons highest is 112 so.... we might be tallest 😂

Hey, I have a question. Will the entire existing structures of the old interchange and the existing T-column bridges that carry 1604 over I-10 be completely demolished and reconstructed, or will they leave the existing structures in commission, widen the T-column bridges that carry 1604 over I-10, and build the new stack interchange over everything? There is a total of 4 T-column bridges that cross over I-10 at 1604, with the two inner bridges carrying 1604's freeway main lanes and the two outer bridges that act as feeder ramps and auxiliary lanes into the cloverleaf ramps. It seems like they could expand the existing main lanes of 1604 by connecting the inner and outer existing bridges together so that they all support the 8 main lanes of 1604, but I'm thinking they're going to demolish everything that's there currently and reconstruct new bridges to carry 1604 over I-10. I'm curious to see what they do.
@TexasHighwayMan
@TexasHighwayMan 7 месяцев назад
All of the structures will be demolished and re-constructed. While it seems like they could connect the mainlane and collector/distributor lane bridges together, they actually can't because the bridge decks don't line-up. Because of the slope of the deck (required for proper drainage), an extension of the inner bridge decks would come in below the outer bridge decks. I put a copy of the cross-section here so you can see: texashighwayman.com/misc/1604-10-existing.png So at a minimum, they would have to tear down and rebuild the outer bridges to the corresponding elevation. At that point, it really is better to go ahead replace it all, and the new 1604 mainlanes will be about four feet higher than the existing ones.

TXDOT needs to upgrade TX46 to Interstate standards so traffic not stopping in SA bypass it.

There are currently plans to upgrade SH 46 between Seguin and New Braunfels to a freeway.

Will the extra length of flyovers reduce traffic? In comparison the i10e to 410e/w is always backed up. I think it’s because of the huge steep climb.
@paulcuellar2680
@paulcuellar2680 Год назад
And the entrance ramp from medical before Callaghan
@TexasHighwayMan
@TexasHighwayMan Год назад
While the grade does play a role in slowing traffic on that ramp to 410, the main cause is actually that the volume of traffic using that ramp now exceeds its capacity. TxDOT is currently looking at splitting the westbound 410 flyover off to a separate exit. As for the 1604 interchange, the main reason for the long flyovers is the proximity of intersecting roads and a karst feature to the west, and the constrained space between I-10 and Lockhill-Selma to the east.
@AliceSexton

For the new exit of I-10 to ease access to La Cantera, do you have new proposed traffic patterns? Also, does the current exit off I-10 for la Cantera go away?
@TexasHighwayMan
@TexasHighwayMan Год назад
I am working on videos with all the new traffic patterns that will answer those questions! Be sure to subscribe to my channel if you haven't already to get notified when I post them.

@@TexasHighwayMan Can do. Trying to interpret if current traffic patterns will be massively impacted and the current main entrance into The Rim will become obsolete. Thoughts?
@TexasHighwayMan
@TexasHighwayMan Год назад
@@AliceSexton - Yes, for the roads in the immediate vicinity of the interchange, the traffic patterns will be significantly impacted. The current entrance to the Rim won't become obsolete, though-- there will still be exits from I-10 in both directions for La Cantera Blvd. Folks coming from Loop 1604, though, will have a different way of reaching it than they do today.

Public transit to fix congestion instead of bulldozing houses and businesses for a wider highway. People that love cars can drive, but doesn't mean everyone have to commute by it.
